Personally, I haven't been active at all on gaia the past few months. The main reason I would say is because of the Cash Shop..
The recent increase in items has WAY pushed my vision of Gaia out of my head. I miss the way Gaia used to be, when people would get excited over the release of one or two items. Now, all the items that are made for Sponsors and stuff are just ruining the world of Gaia for me.
Everything is so much different than it was a year ago.. it used to be so much fun questing for everything not getting caught up in all the items, now there's like a thousand items I've never seen before on people and I don't know when the hell they were released. All I do on Gaia anymore is check the announcements and get the occasional PM, and that's it. It's just not fun anymore.
Does anyone else think Gaia has lost it's touch?

It's a cause of progression. With over 300+ servers that maintain the account information of over 12 million users, and keep the site up for 100k+ people daily means they need the added money. The Monthly Collectibles and Cash Shop items are not cutting it. Lanzer and Fleep both said we weren't breaking even with those two therefore they needed sponsorships and advertisements.

[ ] From what I've seen, as an active '05er, I'd say it's been going downhill since 2007. The Cash Shop isn't making things better either, so it's continuing to go in a downward spiral. However, this is only my opinion.
On another note, they should be focusing on fixing old problems and such around the site before they start working on new stuff. Adding new stuff just causes new problems that pile up on top of the old ones. []

The Cash Shop is especially ruining it for me ~ I just thought it pretty lame to have to pay cash for holiday items, instead of a good ol' quest evil

I agree that it's going downhill.
I was so disppointed with the Easter 'event' this year. I loved going round Egg hunting last year! What do we get this year, an exploding egg. Fun :/
The cash shop is becoming more event based. They released Easter items in there, St Patrick's Day items in there. Not everyone can use it. Which really sucks.

I most certainly will agree with that statement. The easiest way to spot that gaia is going downhill without touching the issue of cash shops and advertisement?
The quality of its members.
Forums, Gaia Towns. Wander in there and you will probably be ashamed to know that you are human, similar to the clowns running around in the said sections.
In my own personal case? Fakes. 80% of the Gaian gay population are NOT even males. How sad is that? <3

I definitely haven`t found Gaia as alluring as it was for the years `04 to `07, but I can`t figure out if it`s because of the CS or what.
I think mostly because Gaia`s turned into a MySpace type of thing where all any one does is piss and moan and show off pictures. Personally, I liked it when you could go in the CB and find a decent topic. Now it`s all "Bump to the top", "I need a GF" and fake give aways.
Really, I think Gaia`s maturity level has dropped. Used to be, it was rare to find a 14 year old on Gaia; now it`s rare to find someone over 16, or so it seems. People get wigged out because I`m 19, and now it`s super un-cool to be an adult on Gaia. At least, that`s the way the forums seem to make it.
All of the really awesome people seem to either get banned or leave because of stupidity.
Where have the days gone when it was OK to make fun of L33T? Where have the days gone when it was OK to have a religious or political discussion without worry of being flamed to death?
Though, that`s just my opinion.
Oh, and another thing: The MC`s suck now.

I would have to agree with everything. I've only been here since late June of 2007. and i agree the massive release of new items has down graded the excitement of items. A new item would come in once a month and i felt like omg this is so cool but now i'm like eh another new item.
but just to oppose this a little i think the evolving items are a great idea and are really kool but you know what, they're being mass produced now like the other items...

i've been here a year and 3 months...i believe it has seriously gone the Mizer on us and only wants our money, seriously...getting sponsered by MTV? sad =(
and their "improvements" on the market place...have just made it alot worse, in like, 3 months since the cash shop opened up, monthly letters jumped 10k in price...and now its getting retardly hard to get money if youre reletively new to gaia and dont have access to a bank account

I think it's going downhill too. The items that we get are so confusing when you don't know when they were realeased. Also, the items are starting to suck, including the MC's. The cash shop, in my opinion, just makes everything even more complicated, because you can only buy stuff from there b y purchasing gaia cash, and thats a lot of REAL money.

I agree with Sonic. I haven't been here as long, but I think the problem is the rapidly declining intelligence of the users. Also, I think that Gaia should fix it's problems before they make new ones. It's still hard to go into town or join a game server, but we have an MTV hangout. Why?
