Un. of Penn. = University of Pennsylvania

I just got accepted to it. Its a six week course from nine in the morning to two in the afternoon. There, we will learn how to speak, write, and, potentially, sing in Chinese. We will also learn culture, religion, traditions, and various other aspects of the Chinese people. Field trips will teach us and let us watch demonstrations in dances and martial arts. It starts in Mid-July. After that, I'm going to China with my "Aunt" to visit her family. I'm really excited.

But, I wanted to know if anyone else is doing anything similar or if they are going to the same academy as I am...

NOTE: Everything that I just mentioned isn't on the Schedule. I'm just assuming one or two additional points from phone calls my mother made to the place.

@niph: mrgreen

@corvius: I just want to tell you now, that when learning chinese it's better to focus more on the characters than on the ping ying.

Thanks everyone!!

I just hope that I'm not the only English guy there >.<

My Aunt said that it would probably be alot of other Chinese kids there that didn't learn how to speak it originally...

Yeah, probably quite a few ABCs (American-born Chinese). But it'll be fine (: and I agree with yalie, focus on characters. And when trying to pronounce, it's most important to master the four tones of voice first as that's what most people find the hardest to do. -nodnod-

I've already learned the four tones from Night Classes at a local College. We also learned Introductory phrases and stuff whee ...

Ahh, well done. All my friends are like "all those tones sound exactly the same".. -__-;;

wow... okay yeah, i should probably brush up on english since i seem to have missed a few words in my last post. anyway, it's a shame that chinese schools and classes only teach mandarin. I'd really like to learn cantonese too.
