Last Saturday/Sunday, hurricane Ike barreled into Texas as a Category 2 Hurricane, leaving Houston and Dallas flooded and powerless.
Granted, it was a low-grade hurricane, but it was also the size of texas.
As it moved inland, it left a trail of destruction. Damage was dealt from Texas all the way up to Ohio. 56 deaths in 11 states. Kinda freaky.
What was labeled as a 40mph Tropical Depression, left hurricane Force Damage in Southern Indiana, North-Central Kentucky (Where I live), Tennessee and Ohio. 96,000 people in my city are still without power even almost a week after. I luckily got mine back last night.
There were trees UPROOTED (I mean, big trees liek woah.) sidewalks destroyed, and houses damaged.
So, for those who live in these affected areas - How was your experience living without power? Did your family experience any damage? Ike's a b***h, isn't he?
and for those who don't live anywhere near the bullpucky that occured. -Have you ever dealt with anything similar to this? -What would you do if you didn't have power for 6+ days? -Ike's still a b***h, isn't he.

I'm lucky to say I've never experienced anything like this. I couldn't imagine being stuck in the middle of that or having to deal with the aftermath. I can't even begin to think what I would do if we didn't have power here. It's positively mindblowing to me.
I saw a picture of a man who had boarded up his house. He spraypainted one of the boards: "Go away, Ike, Tina ain't here."

We lost all our fridge food. xD; It's horrible...

Well, I can't say it affected me, since I live in Cali, but it did do a number on my Mom's summer home down on Padre.

It didn't affect where I live. I lived in Virginia though when Hurricane Isabel hit though, a few years back. Oh...category 2 or 3. A few people died. Not too much destruction. But. No freaking power for 2 weeks. Buuuuuuut.... There was no school for 3 weeks, which ROCKED. I do remember a time though where I accidentally broke a glow stick on mah face. Which is not very comfortable. but yeah... The amount of deaths is surprising to me.

We're far enough inland that we just get some rain and wind. My dad drove to the beach during the end of a tropical storm and drove back in the beginning of another one. rolleyes Psh, If i had a business meeting then, I wouldnt go. My mother and I both can't stand driving/riding in cars during extreme weather. We were in a six-car pileup when i was small. Nothing but bruises and cuts from glass, though. This summer we were coming home during the worst thunderstorm I've ever seen. I thought I was going to die. There were very few other cars on the road because people kept pulling over and stopping.

Hey, just feel good that you didn't have to go through KATRINA! I stayed home in St. Bernard Parish(home destroyed, had to be rescued from a HELICOPTER! Katrina hit less than 2 weeks beofre my birthday, and my aunt/uncle died! I couldv'e been worse off, but I lived. So, just be happy that you are better off than us. crying

Wolves// I wasn't impliying that what I went through was worse than Katrina. :l In a sense, everyone in the country suffered from Katrina because of the lack of response to help. -shrug- the fact that it wasn't a hurricane, but left hurricane damage is what I'm getting at.
...
Gerry, I hate you.

I have never been in a hurricane so I can't really understand what it's like to lose homes and power and such from them.
They should have prepared themselves.
