I see no classical guitar thread in this forum! gonk

So therefore, this forum is dedicated towards us. :]

This thread is open to performance discussion, artist discussion, musicians worthy of praise, new technology that helps us guitarists (strings, humidifiers, etc..) and many other things.

I'm currently practising La Catedral - Agustin Barrios. :]
I'm going to play Paganini next year, some duets with a violin.

La Catedral is a beautiful piece...which is your favorite movement?

That's cool :] what else do you like to play?

I agree. Here should be more guitarists.
I like the third one and the first one is quite sweet, but i don't remember the other movements so.. rolleyes What's yours?

I can't list the favourite composers though. I have never thought of listing them xD ;; But I wish to play more of Nikita Koshkin, Barrios, Villa-Lobos.
Also Mertz has some nice (and easy?) songs..
I used to play a lot of Sakura (variations) by Yocoh Ono Yukihiro. Not sure of the composer name..

How long have you played?

Tis' a shame...
but at least i know of one already :]

I agree the Allegro Solemne is just so mezmerising, and the Preuludio Saudade is just a gem.
The other movement is the "Andante Religioso" it's supposed to serve as a transitional piece towards the Prelude and Allegro, he wrote it in his later years after Catedral was already released, he probably felt like it needed something more (don't we all after we finish writing a piece)...so it kinda fits in but doesn't.

lol :] it's ok...it was gut wrenching to name just 10 for me as well...there are too many composers out there just to pick a few...

Wow, you have unique taste. I'm personally a fan of the Spanish school, something about it tickles my ear razz
lol Yoko ono

Have you heard of Leo Brouwer?

I have played for four years going on five this July (2nd to be exact) 3nodding

how long have you been playing? and how did you start playing? if i may ask? :]

The only BIG song I can play perfectly is Leyenda by Isaac Albeniz.

After seeing John Williams play the Usher Waltz by Nikita Koshkin, I've also started to pick up that song.

If you can play Leyenda, then I would say you have the capability to play alot of other "BIG" songs 3nodding

Although I love Leyenda and Albeniz, I get a little annoyed by it.
Unfortunately, it is the song that everybody wants to play at my school, and when we go to state competish everybody is playing it. It was as if the song was plugged into a 100 watt amp and a surround sound system, I just couldn't escape!

You have good taste in music by the way. (sig)

Oh wow, It's good to see I'm not the only classical guitarist in this guild anymore. Dionisio Aguado's Rondo in A minor, excellent in terms of virtuoso pieces in my opinion, at least I enjoy in much more than Leyenda, which is overplayed.

I wouldn't say it's a virtuoso piece. I would say it's an intermediate guitar piece, although it is challenging, and one of my favorite pieces to play at the moment, Bach's fugues are way more brutal!
I had a harder time learning the 997 than the Rondo, but we all agree Leyenda is overplayed, I even heard it at guitar center one time, which would be the pinacle of popularity for a song.

i like classical guitar because of its beautiful sound i first started when i was little and i wanted to play metal but then i was introduced to classical and i loved the sound and how much harder it was to play (i like challenges) so then i got a classical guitar and started to play and i believe my first song was Minuet from J.S. Bach

My top 5 Composers
1. Amadeus Wolfgang Mozart - Elvira Madigan
2. Schubert - Ave Maria
3. Beethoven - Fur Elise
4. Gounod - Funeral March of a Marionette
5. Tchaikovsky - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

I started to play it last year, and I quite enjoyed it. We have a class on Saturdays and then we learn some easy pieces and some hard ones, and chords and so on. However, since last year a lot of people gave it up.

The only big song I can play on the guitar is "Always look on the bright side of life". I'm looking for some classical pieces and better tabs.

The classic guitar, is it like the normal, everyday guitar, or is it different?
