Or so the good folks at Yahoo! would have you believe, because apparently this article states that the game has been outsold by Wii Sports. That's right Wii Sports. Now I don't know if this shows the incompetence of the article writers at Yahoo! or the impressive sales figures of the Wii but I don't consider a game that comes bundled with the console to count in the running for "best selling game"

Even though it's not bundled in Japan, it still sold over 3 million there. That's more impressive, to me.

Even if Wii Sports did start to sell more than SMB...
Super Mario Bros > Wii Sports
To me, SMB still beats Wii Sports with an iron fist.
And yes, I did read the whole article. I think the sales have more to do with a huge surge of interest in video games in general as compared to 1990-ish. (perhaps earlier, perhaps later). And lets not forget that there are TONS of new people who haven't touched a controller before were also getting the Wii as well as a ton of eBay vendors eager to make a quick thousand bucks off of impatient people. stare

I'd accuse SMB of cheating more than I'd accuse Wii Sports. That said, I enjoyed the time I put into SMB much more than the time I put into Wii Sports. Well yea, they both cheated. The only reason I'd say Wii Sports is more of a big fat cheater because it's almost unavoidable to purchase it. I'd argue most of the SMB sales were because people specifically wanted it. But it's agreed. Wii Sports sold more, but still doesn't match the level of SMB. Not even close.

Back when the sexy Nintendo came out, there wasn't as big of a gamer base as there is today. People JUST started back then, so of course sales weren't gonna be high, unlike nowadays, where everyone watches television, can read reports on how good it is, etc.
SMB > Wii Sports, no matter what.
