Okay. I have to post this. Some critic would be nice too, although I wrote it FOREVER ago! It's old, but at the time, when I wrote it, I thought it was the shiz. XD It hasn't been revised or anything since it first came out of my mind and I know it needs work. It's sorta like a rough draft for this big story I was writing. I had to have a journal for English class one year and this is the result: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXCERPT:
I made my way through the crowd trying to get a look at what everyone was so riled about. I squeezed my way between men and women and even some children. Was it a parade? I started to grow excited. Maybe this could help me figure out where I was. The crowd seemed to be murmuring to themselves and then cheers and loud yells could be heard. It was hard to focus on what was being said until I found two of the women being particularly loud.
The first woman had long red hair, maybe in her mid 40's and was talking to a stout elderly woman holding a box of rotten tomatoes, "This will be the best thing to have happened in this town for years!," she screeched, grinning from ear to ear.
"Yes," The older woman had a raspy, almost spooky voice, "Let Satan's curse be gone."
Huh? Wait! What was going on?!? I started running toward the loudest part of the crowd and forced my way into it, paying no attention to the angry looks and curses I was receiving. Finally breaking through, I came face to face with a wooden stage, worn down with use. Standing a top was a man dressed in black, a hood covering his face, holding a rusty hatchet.
"An executioner..." I quietly mumbled, eyes wide with horror. I recognized the attire from an old video we watched in World Civ dealing with the dark ages. But why would I be here? In medieval times?!? I lived in the 21st century!
I whipped my head around to fully take in my surroundings from first waking up. It didn't really seem like Camelot or Robin Hood could ever be in this period.
The women dressed in a variety of clothing; unlike the video which mainly dealed with puffy skirts and corsets. Here, they wore short shorts, buckles, and fur vests...dresses or long layered robes.
I tried to put the pieces together but nothing fit. About to turn my attention back to the man standing around me, my thoughts were cut off as the executioner turned his attention toward me. Caution took over my senses and I took a step back. I had a sick feeling he was smiling. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This small entry I wrote led to me beginning to write my story. I have more chapters in my little notebook so if you actually like it, tell me!
Question: Where do you get the inspiration for your work?
