Welcome to the Guitar God forum!

History:

This forum was created in this guild for hopes that guitarists could come here, and learn / teach a bit about playing guitar. From beginners who just started yesterday, to grandfathers who've been playing all of their life. Its practically a place for any guitarist to converse about anything guitar-related

About Shadowfold:

I'm a guitarist who's been playing since the end of the 8th grade. Right now that marks close to the 5-year period for me, considering that i've recently graduated high-school.

I first started playing on a "First Act". Which is a whopping $100 from Wal-Mart. I still have it, and its a good guitar for when I want to go outside or something and don't mind screwing it up. I have been self-tought through the entire time, and I have neither had the money for lessons nor the time or patience.
Last year, for christmas, my parents bought me a $350 solid-white BC Rich Warlock with a Widow headstock, not to mention along with a coffin-case. (I have a picture of it on my facebook)
Also recently, I have become facinated with Spanish Acoustic Guitar music. They who play this type of music are truely elite to guitar playing, and my girlfriend finds this type of music very sexy to hear. lol.

I've learned quite a bit in my 5 years of playing, i've learned basic chords, how to hammer-on how to pull-off, how to scale this and that, pinch harmonics. But I know that there are things out there that I havn't learned yet, but are hoping to learn from this forum. (Such as the different ways to sweep-pick)

So, i'm learning how to play some metal, i've decided to work a bit with Dethklok. And I thought i'd start with learning to play "Thunderhorse".

So, I start looking at the tabs and everything is going good so far, then I see the "Sweep Picking" part.

I got everything else, but sadly its only the sweep-picking part that stops me every time. sad

Haha, occasionally I get my dad to teach me guitar, but my main instrument is the drums. But my dad's been playing for some 46 or so years. It's lots of fun jammin with him.

Then find some sweep-picking practice drills and keep doing them until you're great at it.

I've been playing guitar more than 10 years (I stopped counting after that point). I'm not a soloist at all. I prefer chord progressions over reading sheet music and/or tabs. I also sing when I play, so chording is much easier at that point.
I think tabs are for people not creative enough to do their own thing.

Today I went to the nearest Guitar Center, and bought a paper-back book called "Speed mechanics for lead guitar", and one of the sections is indeed sweep-picking. I just opened it today, so I won't be getting to it anytime soon. sad
But what i've learned from the first couple of pages is actually pretty good.
I give props to the author Troy Stetina (idk who he is, but meh.)
