Locale Name: Dueling Arena

Classification: Business

Controlled: Unaligned (owned by Andre and Raul)
( for profiles for Andre, Raul, Christie, and BillBob, see: Byako Profiles Thread pg 4 )

Description: A huge, marble arena filled with stands reaching towards the sky. A large oval fighting pit dominates center stage and a recessed trench around the perimeter forms a gauntlet filled to the brim with traps and such enclosing the pit, not only to serve as a danger, but also as a separate event itself. The gauntlet is usually covered over when not in use, and sometimes partitions are put up to divide the pit into separate fighting areas, typically no more than two. At times there are also obstacles put up in the fighting pit, sometimes with themes, such as fake ruins.

The two main entrances to the fighting pit itself are equipped with heavy spiked portcullises and large doors in front of them. The smaller one is for competitors from outside the arena to enter by, and leads from the practice rooms.
The larger one comes from a dark tunnel through which come creatures kept in the lower levels of the arena… all potentially deadly, some far more than others.

At the front main entrance of the entire building there is a ticket booth, usually staffed by any of a number of part-time workers, mostly bored-looking teens. A sign there says:
Admission: Affordable.
If you can afford nothing, then the price is nothing for you.
If you can afford an exorbitant fee, then by all means pay it.

Enjoy watching the battles!

There are also signs with arrows on them, one of which says:
Spectator Seating THIS WAY
which leads up a set of wide marble stairs to the walkway around the seating; and pointing the other direction towards a high-ceilinged hallway is a sign reading:
Competitor Sign-Up and Practice Rooms THAT WAY

Halfway up in the spectator seating, there is a walkway going all around the arena, with a few scattered concession stands, mostly for popcorn and sodas. At one end of the arena on this upper level, there is a control booth (usually locked) and a simple utility closet next to that. In the control booth, there are consoles for lighting, effects, security cameras, and also a holo-projection system that is connected to the cameras and lighting systems. On the other end of the Arena opposite the control booth and on that same level, there is a reasonably wide flat area that can be used for small presentations of sorts. On this level there are also various doors leading to hallways and stairways inside the structure of the arena. Many of these are usually locked, and at least one of the hallways ends in a big set of double doors to a very large storage room underneath some of the upper levels of seating. That storage room has been found to be mostly filled with old forgotten musical instruments, costumes and stage props.

On the ground floor, inside the Arena and just before one reaches the entrance to the practice rooms, there is an open space where currently there is a temporary folding table and chair with a sign on the wall indicating this is where the tournament sign-ups are handled.

From that space, there is a wide marble archway. Above the arch a sign reads:
Enter Practice Rooms at Your Own Risk
(Management is not responsible for bruised limbs and egos, death, or dismemberment occurring in the Practice Rooms)

Below that there are steps leading partway down to the next level, where there is a landing with a door to one side with a sign reading:
Danger! Employees Only
Continuing down past the landing, there are the practice rooms. In them can be found various forms of exercise equipment, a number of beat-up target dummies, punching bags, mats for exercising and sparring, and a plethora of weapons both of the practice variety and the full versions.
At the far end of all the practice rooms there is a set of stairs leading up from them to the competitor’s entrance to the fighting pit of the Arena.

The Employees Only Area is strictly off-limits to everyone except for Christie, the lead monster handler of the Arena, and her assistant BillBob, who isn’t generally allowed everywhere there anyway. Rumor has it that down past the rooms where the monsters are kept, is an area where one could easily get lost in the stairwells, corridors and rooms of the old forgotten basement levels. It’s even rumored that there are catacombs and storage rooms for things that have been there since before any of the structures above even existed. But anyone attempting to go there uninvited/unescorted is sure to meet with more difficulty than such exploration is worth.

Past Events: It has been rumored that the Dueling Arena was once a stadium used for concerts, known as the Ometta dome, but none of the Dueling Arena’s current staff know much of anything about that.

'A marvel. Truely. Wasn't isn't think like this back home.. Marble? How's anyone make this..? its even smooth.. such craftmanship.. most be a devoted owner. This'll make a good story.. I'll make some notes..' ALl these thoughts ran threw the young man mind as he wondered around the arena, admiring every detail in the stonework and building. The 15 year old student was on a journey. "Travel far and Wide.. study people, nature, and life.. come back with some good stories k' Oden, dear?~" That was the last word he heard from his Master (he didn't like to say 'Mistress'... people tended to get the wrong idea) before he was pushed out into the world to travel abroad.

It was a surprizingly effective method for getting a student of the magic arts to learn life-skills... plus it saved his master a whole lot of explaining...

His shoulder length deep red hair swishing behind him as he made his way aimlessly though the corridors. Despite how much Oden didn't like the sound of it... He was sooo lost at the moment. The boy looked up and down the hallway.. hmm.. nobody... How strange! He kept walking until he saw light.. he walked threw the door and looked around.. Wait.. was this..

Damn..

He had wandered straight into the arena.. and what he saw didn't look friendly. He most be the master of misdirection...

Javier moved about freely thruogh the great marble arena. In all his years he had never seen anything like this! Then again...he had only a good 16 years at that. He could see people training either with one another or on punching bags. Others were meditating or sitting silently awaiting the beginning.

Javier had come here on behalf of his master...an father Hayabusa. He had told him he was ready to compete in this tournament...but seeing all the competition...with their large blades and ripped muscles...Javier had his doubts. He had come with nothing but a staff at his back and only a handfull of spells. He was not fighting out in the wilderness as he was acustomed to, so there would be no terrain to manipulate or use to his advantage. He would simply have to make the best of it.

He moved his red streaked jet black hair out of his eyes and continued around, anxiety beginning to creep into his sytem.

Felix, his Falcon perched on his shoulder could sense and gave a soft screech followed by a reassuring nib on the ear. Javier smiled.

"I know Felix. It's I've never been in a tournament before," he said stroking her. She looked back at him reproachfully. He stopped by what he expected to be the last hallway until the exit to the arena.

he took a few deep breaths and awaited the start.

Oden looked around, wanting nothing more than to back up into the corridor behind him and run for it. He was good at that by now... He'd been run out of a few towns because aparently many people dislike sages and magicains like himself. And being what he was didn't help. But that very rarely slipped out. He took a step back and felt behind him. Solid.

Damn... agian.

They had closed the wall behind him... He hated getting stuck in things like this. He looked across the arena. Another person.. a boy.. about his age maybe? Possibly older... He held a staff and a bird sat on his shoulder. Oden tried to make since of it all... A magician of some sort.. A summoner? Maybe a tamer... He stepped forward.

"Um.. I think theres been a mis under--"

"Welcome to the arena! We have two warriors set to battle today! These young men have found there way into the Arena to show there strength!"

"Why.. me...?" Oden gasped as the announcer continued ranting mindless fluff about the upcoming fight. He obviously had no idea who either of the two boys in the arena were... He just kept saying how they were powerful and ready to fight to the death.

Not getting out of this one... Oden reached into his robes, taking out and old tome. He didn't have to fight hard... he'd defend himself... thats what he was best at... hopefully that would be enough to keep him breathing.

Javier's heart stopped as the annoucer came over the PA.
He looked up just in time to jump out into the arena before the stone wall closed down on top of him. Felix gave a cry and took off in fright.

Javier looked across the arena at the other fighter. Powerful? He was hardly any older than he...probably even younger. He didn't know what to do. His minda had been wiped blank. Not everyday you're placed in front of hundreds of people and made to fight. possibly to death...

He noticed the boy pull out a tome. He stared at it for a moment and then sighed.

"Great...to mages dueling to the death...how pleasant..." he said walking closer into the arena.

"And now....the first match of the tournament! Being the first match...we have to make it a special match. I think you'll enjoy this one..." the man's voice rabng out. Javier didn't like the sound of that.

Indeed he didn't. Four doors opened on the arena and four gigantic Manticores were usered into the arena. If Javier's ears could have drooped they would have. The Manticores wasted no time attacking. One came for him.

He was caught in the middle and sent flying back sliding the lenght of the marble arena. He skidded to a halt just before he slid over the edge. He recovered and sat up. This wasn't going to be easy....

As the Manticore came for him again he stood and reached back for his staff...this time he'd be ready. It swung horizantaly at him and he jumped over it. He pulled out his staff and gave it a horizantal swung.

"Praiei glaciei!" he said. The tip of his staff glew light blue as a cold wave swept the arena. The Manticore was frozen in solid ice. Javier knew this wouldn't last long as a Manticore's element was fire. He just needed a stall.

Oden looked across the arena, stared at his opponent for a second. There was the chance he was in the same perdicament as he was... or he was out to kill anyone his his path... Oden didn't much care to think of the latter to much. The traveling mage saw the manticores release from the walls. Three... wait.. Three was a rather odd number.. not even anyways... maybe they had another one in--

In that instant Oden had only seen things this clear once before in his entire life. The audience, laughing and shouting. The other boy, casting a spell. An angry and unsatisfide manticore chasing behind him and himself flying threw the air, head over heels for about two seconds before he saw the ground, in all its solid detail before coliding with it.

Oden really wanted to lay on the ground and think that moment over more thoughally but since he had seen the Manticore that had tossed him that length of the arena coming after him he decided it wasn't the best course of action. He rolled himself over and back up to his feet. Calculating the length of the manticore from him just in time to turn heel and run as fast as he could away from it. His path ran him back behind the other mage and ended in a collision of two manticores. This breif moment gave him just enough time to plant his boots firmly on the ground long enough to cast an 'Elwind' spell on his chasers before they recovered. He glanced to the other boy, hoping he wasn't in a good enough position to start attacking Oden aswell.

The strained sound of metal dragging rang out through the arena's halls and echoed down the gauntlet and training areas. Scarlet eyes cut through the hall's shadows. They darted back and forth, watching the trivial happenings around them. White hair glowed dimly in the pale setting sun and the metal sound echoed out again. Footsteps seemed to echo from all directions and none at the same time.

The white haired assasin breathed calmly through the thin cloth that cloaked the lower part of his face. As Axel walked through the hallways, he noticed, every once in a while, the looks that people would give him. Typically, an assasin, thief or rogue was not looked upon very highly, but Axel preferred it that way. Dealing with people in a cold manner was his preferable method of conveying his thoughts.

Axel stepped through a pair of large doors and emerged out into the arena. Axel dragged his forearm mounted blades against the cold marble, and reveled in the cries the metal made when it contacted the abrasive surface of the arena walls.

"Now..." Axel nimbly traversed the steps downward and found a spot in the corner, where the wall and seating met. There, he sat in shadow and watched the happenings of the arena.

*Not too long I don't think...*

Oden continued his newly patented fleeing technique. The manticores weren't especially fast and he had been forced to run for his life before, nothing new there. One of the fire beasts followed him with much intent to take a limb or two from the sage. It's shrill scream became suddenly distant. Did he manage to throw the beast off? he looked back, running blindly. Thats probably where he went wrong.

Crash.

The young sage had managed to run himself straight into another alien figure. All he knew was it wasn't the hard body of a manticore. And it wasn't the cold mable wall either. Oden looked up and saw a white haired man. He was trained to examine people in an instant. noticing the smallest details helped in a pinch, plus magicans were trained in persition. Everything had to be right if you wanted to tamper with nature effectivly.

The man he'd toppled into had the strangest white hair for a young person. Thin body, in shape. Thin clothing. Yet none of those matter in comparision to the blades attatched to both his arms.

Oden hoped to St. Elimine that he would come out of all of this with only a scar or two.

Say something clever! Something witty, intimdating, anything to not get you killed!

"um...Hello...!" Dumbass!

Neon entered the arena and in an instante a manticore came charging towards him. "sonic gales" whispered Neon and a strong wind blasted and manticore into nothing but bones since its flesh, muscles, and organs wore torn up by the strong winds.

Neon just started walking dodging any of the attacks heading towards him with ease.

"To easy"

((Neon never took out his blades))
