Suggestions: hard pieces for piano! Classical please!

I have just joined this guild and I am glad that someone actually made one. ^ ^

So now I have a question for every musician or a person that plays piano: Could you please list a few pieces for piano that are very hard and if you have time could you also please give a link so I can hear it and do you have any suggestions of where I should buy piano pieces. But only classical please!

My current favortie is the Nutcracker Suite but I am having trouble finding it in music stores.

Hard pieces, eh?

Hm, maybe 'Mazeppa' Transcendental Etude No. 4 by Franz Liszt, and Etude No. 4, "Torrent" by F. Chopin.

Try all of Chopin's pieces... Mmm.... I'm not sure but the ones I played that I remember all had fast tempos or just a lot of precise finger positioning. Mmm... I'd have to say it made my fingers swell the first time I played it as fast as the tempo was. But yeah its great fun~

any liszt pieces. What about funerailles? Saint- saens and Rachmaninoff concertos are huge pieces too.

I can really tell you it's complex.
I have the sheet music. Trust me, really complex. :]

I would recommend Bach's Well Tempered Clavier books I and II. There are lots of lovely pieces in there and for a hard one try out Fugue No. 4 in C# minor book I.

Just curious, why are you looking for hard pieces?

Depends on your current favourite style and the pieces you are working on right now....
I dunno how hard you want the pieces to be but just some piano solo pieces suggestions:

Chopin: the 4 scherzos or the 4 ballades
Brahms: Paganini Variations Book I & II
Beethoven: Some of his later Piano Sonatas
Ravel: Most are quite hard XD

let me know if they are too easy/hard.....
I personally think the techniques for Ravel are the hardest, the tone colour is very hard to control. His style is unique....both expressive and precise XD

@Cat On The Hill- Hm...Bach was a very good composer. I found the sheets. ^_^ Playing them now. I am looking for hard pieces, because I want to become a pianist and I want to know more than what I know already.

@Musiker Klavierspieler- Haha. They sound really good. >.< Beethoven had really good pieces. Everytime I practice I always start with Fur Elise. >.< No clue why.

@Requiems Lullaby- Wow! You are giving me a lot of pieces! I am so happy! Hmm.....it sounds pretty hard...and I found it in the music store in Austria. >.< It looked really hard and I didn't buy it. TT^TT

I know people have recommended lots of great piano pieces for you, but if you want a good edition, get the Urtext. The editor is G. Henle Verlag, and it's German. I have the whole book of Chopin etudes [It does have the "Black Keys" etude], French Bach suites, etc.
