So, my school is doing West Side Story, and I signed up to be in the pit orchestra. Only ppl in the two highest levels are allowed to sign up. So im n the 2nd highest, and it turns out...he only chose the senoir violins in my orchestra. And they are not even serious about anything or dedicated.
I was...so ready to be in that pit too.
Im just really down about it. Though my cello friends and bass players made it in...and they are in the same grade as me.
Well, its senoir authority.
*sigh

Seniority does play a role, even when it's unfair. My senior year the conductor gave me all the solo violin parts for the play (Into the Woods). I had to actually fight him to give a sophomore a solo part. I'm not a glory hog and I like to let other musicians shine, too. However I was and still am serious about the music I make.

I think he shouldve done an audition for the pit, just like how all the dancers and singers auditioned for parts...

Yeah, that was totally unfair. I understand that seniority is important, but that kind of thing definitely calls for an audition!!!

Yeah it was unfair, but the music for that one is insane!
Sure an audition is nessecary but he also knows the pressure you will be under before the permire.
I play in the pit and I have seniority but that didn't mean I got in easy.
