I was looking up political s**t when I heard senators of California, or someone, were suing the state for a city councilman from North Carolina being put into office.
Why was it a problem?






Because he was an Atheist........

The Senator laws state that the person "Must believe in God" as it states clearly in the bill.

This is causing a major uproar and the lawsuit could go on for years.

I find this...extremely ignorant and terrible...
I have lost faith in our country now.

The only way to fight bureaucracy civilly is with equal or greater bureaucracy...like smashing diamonds.


Atheists must use the very things used against them in a case by zealots who think they know law: freedom of religion (atheism may be the absence of belief in a god but it was legally classified a religion).

ALL forms of legality must follow the rules according to the branch:

The problem lies within the state law, but the Constitution overrules it, therefore the "no atheists"state law does not apply due to conflict with the freedom of religon section.
You see, atheists couldn't do that WAAAAAAAY back ago because it wasn't legally classified as a religion, BUT NOW we are allowed reap the benefits.
Cecil doesn't even need to go to court to fight for that one.

Lol, I liked at the end when he pointed out that Christians technically stole the holiday from the Pagans. It WAS Winter Solstice, but they decided it would be easier for their new converts to stay with it if they gave them a different reason to party. rolleyes

The councilman has a right to be there, a protected right, and the North Carolina constitution is in violation of that right; so is every other state that has and enforces that clause.

1st and 9th amendment of the US Constitution.

Anyways....

Someone's religious convictions (or lack of them) has no bearing on whether or not they are fit for public office. The best and most qualified people are still the best and most qualified regardless of their religious beliefs, and those beliefs shouldn't get in the way of their duties anyways.
