GAME CLOSED (move along)
Hi all, I’m making a triumphant (!) comeback with a simple little game. Consider yourselves guinea pigs in my most heinous experiment! Also some of you are hamsters perhaps.
GAME OVERVIEW At the start of the game there are 60 ‘cards’ on the table. Players take it in turns to select a single card and see what it is. There are two types of cards, both worth different points (see below). The aim of the game is to score the most points; it’s simple, random fun.
PLAYERS AND TURN ORDER The game allows for up to 10 players (at the moment), which means each player gets six turns each. Turn order is decided based on the order players enter the game.
CARD TYPES AND GETTING POINTS Cards come in sets of four. In each set there are 3 cards which are the same (basic cards) which are worth 5 points each. The more duplicates you obtain, the more basic cards are worth. If you have two of the same cards they are both worth 10 points each (a total of 20 points for both). If you have all three they are each worth 15 points (a total of 45 points for all three.) Getting duplicates is the key to a high score. Each set of cards also has 1 rare card, which is worth 20 points by itself. TRUST AND RANDOMNESS On my computer I’ve created a simple little game thingy that randomly generates what each card is for me. However, I can’t actually show you this game/program, so if you enter it’s important that you trust that I’m not cheating you or making stuff up. The game would be no fun for me if I did that!
OTHER DETAILS I’m keeping the game mega simple for now, so even though I say ‘cards’ above, what you’ll see is a list of 60 numbers, and each time someone selects one I’ll remove that number! It’s not flashy I know, but it works well enough for now. It’s also worth noting that things always go wrong at first, so this first game will really be a bit of a beta test.
EXAMPLE Entrant: Mr E Xample Card 1: Koopa Trooper (Basic) Card 2: Banzai Bill (Rare) Card 3: Koopa Trooper (Basic) Card 4: Para Goomba (Basic) Card 5: Mushroom (Basic) Card 6: Wario (Rare)
Final Score: 70
The player drew one card each turn by choosing one of the remaining numbers that was available on the front page. They ended up with the cards above. Each basic card is worth 5 points, but the player has two basic cards that are the same, so they double to 10 points each. The rare cards are worth 20 points each. This all adds up to 70 points in the end, but is this enough to beat everyone else's score?!
