Okay, so as some of you already know my PC has problems running certain PC games such as TF2 and Alien Swarm. I've upgraded both my RAM and graphics card, so the next logical step to take is upgrading my CPU... But one problem; my motherboard only takes AM2 socket compatible processors and these days all decent AMD processors use AM3. So that means I need a new motherboard as well as a new processor, and that counts up to well over £100, and I can only spend way less than that seeing as I still have to buy 4 Scott Pilgrim books before it's run time in the cinemas is over and a new keyboard and upcoming awesome games. I also can't be assed to put in a new motherboard and processor anyways, and my CPU is 2.4GHz, which should run stuff like TF2 alright, but it doesn't. It runs it horribly. Anyways, here are my specs.
OS: Vista RAM: 2.5GB CPU: 2.4GHz single core Graphics card: Gigabyte/ATI Radeon HD 4650

Maybe I didn't see it, but is there question in there? You want to know if it's worth getting a new mobo and cpu? Or which ones you can get on the cheap?

I'm just finding it hard to think of a solution, and was wondering if anyone else had a brilliant idea. I may just save up for ages and ages, get my dad to chip in, and then custom build my own PC with the good bits from my current PC.

I have a similar processor and less RAM. Are you sure it isn't your connection?

Oh yeah, I forgot you need like twice as much RAM to run anything on Vista. I believe the same is still true for 7, though. Run a "Crucial scan," and then maybe browse for some compatible RAM over at Newegg. http://www.crucial.comhttp://www.newegg.comYou might have to ditch your old RAM sticks for new ones if your motherboard is at capacity. It might not even solve the problem, lolololol!!

Mine doesn't run Alien Swarm too well, either. Damn Vista.

However upgrading in this case wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea especially if you have a lot of games you would like to run that aren't doing so well.

You could partition your hard drive and install Ubuntu. TF2 and Alien Swarm seem to run fine using Wine.

Computers are just becoming more and more inconvenient to run games with.
