My mom thinks everyone on the internet are bad people but I know you guys aren't because I know you guys aren't because I know furries are nice people who love the beauty of anthromorphs and love to draw them. I just don't know what to do anymore should I still keep dating my boyfriend on the internet or should I not because my boyfriends a furry on gaia and his username is xXSilverCheetahXx. I don't know what to believe anymore after what my mom said to me.

I don't know what to believe anymore after what my mom said to me. Actually, you don't know that. You don't know much about us other than what we post on a screen. There's TONS of horrible furries! Seriously, more than I can count or care to try to count. There's also lots of horrible people on the internet, just as there are lots of good peope...The internet has so many users it's unavoidable. Bad people do use the internet to deceive people, especially young people who don't know any better. Your mother's worries are more than justified, and she worries because she loves you. One day you'll realize this. Also, internet dating is a pretty bad idea. Take it from the voice of experience. Oh, I was such a dumb teenager.

I agree with Shoki on "the internet is dangerous". I'd say it's probably more dangerous than the real world, only because it is much easier to deceive people, when you can put on a different face.
However for the internet dating... It can be good and it can be bad; just like real dating. Purely e-dating is rather silly. Just because someone acts the way they do online, doesn't mean they act that way/you'll like it in the real world. I met my Mate here on Gaia, four years ago, and we've been together for three years. He moved down here two years ago and we see each other every weekend. So, finding love online is alright, but be careful, let your friends and family know (to be safe), and be sure to take it beyond the screen. Sure, roleplaying is fun, but it's even more fun to actually cuddle and hang out. :3

In addition to not acting like they do online...They could just flat out not be what they say they are. Older, younger, different gender, batshit crazy and just good at hiding it initially...or just some other sort of unsavory person. Granted, you take some of these risks with "real" dating, but it's soooo much easier to trick someone online. There's also the fact that it's a lot easier for one or both parties to cheat on the other, because people easily justify an online relationship as not real. Blahblah I think they're more dangerous than real-life dating, etc. etc. HOWEVER! I do acknowledge that they can work. Though, the one's I've seen actually "make it" have been with older/more mature, or just generally more internet-wise people. (I'm assuming the OP is pretty young, judging by...well...a lot.)

They hear news stories of terrible things that have happened when people who met online met up. You are not a child, you can make your own decisions. Your mom is only trying to protect you, just take that for what it is. And do you own thing!

Your mom is only trying to protect you, just take that for what it is. And do you own thing! You're assuming her mom is older. My mom was in her 50's and thought "lol" meant "Lots of love" and my step-dad can't even do emails without assistance (my 80 year old grandma can though)...But her mom could only be in her 30's or 40's (I'm assuming OP is in her teens?), which would be young enough to be more internet-saavy. And it's not like those terrible stories aren't true. Also also, I think teenagers are still children as they're still very immature development wise. Actually, the age of adolescence goes to 25. Though, some people just flat out never become real adults. Met some of those. rolleyes
