Marius' eyes slid over the ocean, hisstasnce relaxed as he sat on the large rock, his reddish black hair streaked with dull gold highlights from spending so much time in the sun. His eyes were an unusual reddish gold color, the color pale gold at the edges of his irises and bleeding to a coppery gold near his pupils. His body was leanly muscled, yet surprisingly flexible and fast when in motion.

Alia had been swimming around in the ocean just relaxing as the water drifted across her skin and scales. She had pale white hair that flowed behind her and a crystalline blue tail helped her glide through the water gracefully. She smiled softly as she was heading towards her usual spot. She swam up towards the surface by a rock that stood in the middle of the water. When she broke through, the sun shone on her hair. She went over to the rock, but she noticed something different, there was someone on the beach close to where she was. She ducked in behind the rock, glancing out from behind it to see who it was.

Marius sighed as he shifted, removing the dark peach tank top he wore; he was an orphan that had been adopted by the 'royal' family of the area, though they were actually only cousins to the real royals of the nearby kingdom. "Why the heck my cousin chooses to send me either pale pastels or neon colors I have no clue; I think she enjoys making me uncomfortable," he muttered as he strode closer to the water. He wasn't really sure where the tribal markings on his body came from; they seemed to be more like birthmarks than tattoos.

Alia glanced at the person on the beach, it was a human. She noticed as he took off his shirt, that he had strange markings on his body. She couldn't help but stare at them for a few moments. She had never seen someone like him before, he seemed so wild looking. She blushed lightly as she looked at him before she returned to hiding behind the rock. She knew that she shouldn't be up above the water, but she couldn't help it. She loved looking at the sun above her instead of just through the waters ripples. Her Father would kill her if he knew she was up here again. But, she just had to get away from home, she had been set up with another suitor and she didn't like this one, one bit either. She couldn't trust them because she knew that they just wanted her for the thrown. She just wished that she could find someone that wanted her because of her and not because she was a princess. She took her crown off of her head and threw it as far as she could into the water.

Marius sighed softly as he half turned, his eyes rising to the sky before a flicker of light caught his eye an instant before he heard a splash. His reddish copper eyes flicked toward the ocean, seeing nothing other than the waves. He shrugged slightly as he half turned before he heard two separate things, a squealing scream and a series of loud barks. "Damn it, Carmen," he muttered as he spun, loping quickly to the ocean; his cousin Carmen was a 'girly girl' fascinated with lace, make up, frills, and dresses, and she was a total snob. Fortunately I can hold my breath for up to nine minutes at a time, he thought as he dove into the sea, noticing a neon pink dress with violet ruffles an instant before he went fully under. He shuddered slightly; he found Carmen both annoying and exhausting, considering the girl never ever quit talking about nonsense.

Alia heard the scream as well and she saw a young woman drowning. She also saw the man on the beach dive in after her. She then dived under the water herself and went towards the human woman to help her since she was faster in the water. She held onto the woman and helped push her up to the surface so she could breathe. Alia made sure to stay under so no one could see her. The woman's dress was certainly bright with the color pink, Alia preferred blue over pink. Pink seemed so bright and too feminine, blue was more mature looking and it represented everything she loved, the ocean especially.

Marius surfaced and swam toward Carmen as his adopted brother got to her, swimming toward shore without looking back. Marius floated in the water, then dove under the water, noticing what looked to be a natural cave or tunnel underneath three or four large rocks. He cocked his head, intrigued. He pushed one of the top ones off and noticed it rolled almost too easily, even with the resistance of the water. Why do I get a bad feeling all of a sudden? he thought an instant before a large reddish purple tentacle he realized belonged to a large octopus snaked out, wrapping around his right forearm. He snorted a burst of bubbles from his nose, fighting back the pain of the intense pressure it was putting on his wrist as it tried to drag him in; fortunately he planted both feet on the side of the cave's mouth and kept his other arm on his bicep, doing what he could to relax his arm and prevent it from being either broken or dislocated. It has both the advantage in time it can last and physical strength, while if this keeps up, I'll have to surface in roughly seven minutes, he thought.

Alia watched from afar as the human man with the strange markings swam down to one of the covered caves. But, before she called out to him to warn him, it was too late. The octopus had already grabbed hold of him. She knew that he would see her, but she just couldn't let him die like that. She rushed over to his side and placed her hands on the arm that the tentacle was wrapped around. She looked at the octopus for a moment before pulling back. She then swung back her tail and then slammed it down on the tentacle. Mermaid tails were naturally hard and heavy, so when it was slammed down, it would hurt a lot. The octopus let go and she looked at the human before grabbing hold of him from behind as she dragged him up to the surface by her rock so he had something to hold onto.

Marius exhaled hard,his hands finding several barely noticeable nihes in the worn stone. He'd seen a shadow move in the cavern before a burst of dust had blinded in the water; he'd felt the tentacle let go and someone grabbing his arm and pullng him to the surface. He blinked and noticed the reddening marks on his forearm and wrist before he noticed the girl a few feet away. "Thanks," he said softly. He cocked his head slightly. "Sea kelp should help with these marks, and fortunately there's a clump of them near the base of this rock," he murmured, unsure if the girl could hear him and not minding if she did or not. "I admit, I don't mind having what I have now, with the family, but.... it just doesn't feel like I fit in," he muttered.

Alia looked at him as he tried to breathe again, she patted his back softly so help him a little. She noticed that he had hard muscles underneath his soft skin. She looked at him as he spoke, "Please...allow me to help," she went under and grabbed a few pieces of kelp before coming back up and she began wrapping them around his arm gently, "Sea kelp has good medicinal qualities..." she looked at him for a moment, her dark brown eyes looking into his own strange colored eyes. "Here, do you need help to get back there?"

Marius sughed softly. "I'm okay for the moment; knowing Mitchell, he'll rip me a new one for what happened with Carmen, though she should have remembered not to do that considering what happened the last two times," he said softly, his voice a little raspy. He felt his hand tense for an instant, an odd sensation like pins and needles flashing through it for a moment. "I've always felt more at home in the sea... or in water in general, really," he said softly. "I know of an underwater cavern nearby that's actually quite beautiful... I'm pretty sure it was once a volcano," he said softly. It was one of several secret spots he had found

Alia looked at him a little more when he spoke and she nodded, "Yeah, it was, but it hasn't been active for many years..." she then pushed herself away from him and further into the water, "Well...I should be going...please, do not explore any more caves that are sealed up, they are sealed for a reason, there are creatures inside that shouldn't be released..." she looked at his arm, "Your arm should be better in a day or so, the damage didn't look so bad, so it couldn't be anything serious..." she knew that she should be leaving, but yet, she couldn't find herself to move from the place she was in.

Marius smiled slightly. "Maybe we'll meet again sometime," he said, his muscles unconsciously rippling as he pulled himself up onto the rock, his eyes rising toward the horizon and the setting sun. This is one reason I always enjoy the ocean... the sunsets are priceless, not to mention what's under the surface... it's both serene and powerful, he thought.

Alia nodded giving him a small smile with a dust of pink to her cheeks when she noticed his muscles, "I would like that. I just hope that the next time we meet, it won't be to save your life from an octopus..." she laughed lightly back she dived back under the water and began swimming away from him. She was still blushing as she swam away, "He is so different, and he looked at me like I was a normal girl...though..." she looked down at her tail, "I can never be a normal girl, I am a part of the sea..."
