Marushii
This wasn't her desk. In fact, this bottle of hard apple cider she was drinking wasn't her's either. Red scratched the back of her head as she flipped through the papers on Arel's desk, trying to see if Arel hid another box of cookies there.

In her haste, Tomoko's application was shifted and buried under the 'Accepted' pile, whereupon it was fed to the Acceptance Bin later as Arel tried to find where he had last placed his bottle of hard apple cider.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Name:Tomoko
Nicknames: Tomo-chan (younger siblings), Tomo, Momo
Gender: Female
Age: 15 (June 30th, every 3rd year (so 13/16/19)

Faction/Race Demon/Kitsune

Personality: Imagine the most deadly woman you know. Now imagine they look lost and like they need directions all the time. Now take away the deadly part. Pretty much, Tomoko always looks like she's not sure where she is, where she should be, and where it is she's going. You would be too if your native language was not what you were surrounded by. While Tomoko does know a little bit of 'common' language, she primarily speaks Japanese.

This means she does speak English, but not enough to completely spare people from her going "... And then I...i... D;;;;;;!!!" and then resorting to filling in the space with the proper word in JAPANESE that she's thinking of. She is trying though. It's just not common for a member of her family to be surrounded by English.

This isn't to say Tomoko is from a particularly prestigious family. In fact, she's from the opposite; Tomoko's family normally DOESN'T send their children off to Amityville because they managed well enough on their own for several generations to make at least respectable monsters.

Tomoko, unfortunately, has this habit of being like a duckling, picking SOMEONE in a group who seems to know what they're doing and following them silently in hopes it will get her somewhere where she won't feel out of place. This means she'll be quick to latch onto a select group of people to play 'momma duck' to her followings, even if they don't reciprocate. She also did this at home with her younger siblings, so her recreating the mannerism is a coping mechanism for the lack of familiarity. She also doesn't handle unusual situations all that well, quick to get nervous and look to others for help. To say that Tomo is independent is like saying that the undead are immune to fire; it's a lie and you all know it.

However, Tomoko should never been mistaken as being unintelligent. She's at least reasonably smart for her age, boasting a whole -three- tails (one of which split recently), and confident, at least, that she'll at least end up with Six of them. She has to hope, at least. However, she lacks a lot of confidence in herself in general (AKA less-specific things like her tails) and in her nervousness has a bad habit of 'messing up'. Especially when put on the spot.

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Tomoko's parents have grown concerned with their eldest child's lack-of-aptitude that her two younger siblings have, as well as her lack of confidence. They believe it would be best for their daughter to be surrounded by monsters of her own age, and possible abilities, to bond with and possibly grow with. There is obviously some potential in the girl, but they may just not be providing the best atmosphere for it. Besides, if the school gives their firstborn some tough-love, it won't be them having to dish it out on the girl's sensitive nerves.

NATURAL ABILITY: Illusions - Kitsunes, especially the females, are known for disguising themselves as human women, amongst other things for a certain amount of time. As weak as Tomoko is, all her natural ability is good for is for 'blending in' with people (which will serve her well in the future). It is using this ability that Tomoko is maintaining a 'humanoid' form, and thus will be in her 'actual' body when she isn't maintaining it.

FEAR: HOSHI-NO-TAMA - According to Myth, Kitsune carry this ball-of-stars as a source of magic. Tomoko is a prime example of this, constantly fidgeting with the crystal-ball sized item as without it she's rendered magic-less.

To Begin: All she can do at this point is create a weak and short-lasting Fox Fire. It flashes brightly and quickly fades away, but is bright enough to temporarily blind a foe. Unfortunately, if someone isn't looking at it or has no eyes she's useless for it.

Where it Will Go: The flame created with the help of the Hoshi-no-Tama will first gain stability in existence (even sacrificing brightness to an extent) and will be able to light-things-up but not burn them. This is more distraction-than-damage and it will move slowly.

From there it will gain the ability to burn and move a little more quickly.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Kitsune is the Japanese word for fox. Foxes are a common subject of Japanese folklore; in English, kitsune refers to them in this context. Stories depict them as intelligent beings and as possessing magical abilities that increase with their age and wisdom. Foremost among these is the ability to assume human form. While some folktales speak of kitsune employing this ability to trick others—as foxes in folklore often do—other stories portray them as faithful guardians, friends, lovers, and wives.

Foxes and human beings lived close together in ancient Japan; this companionship gave rise to legends about the creatures. Kitsune have become closely associated with Inari, a Shinto kami or spirit, and serve as its messengers. This role has reinforced the fox's supernatural significance. The more tails a kitsune has—they may have as many as nine—the older, wiser, and more powerful it is. Because of their potential power and influence, some people make offerings to them as to a deity.User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Depictions of kitsune or their possessed victims may feature round or onion-shaped white balls known as hoshi no tama (star balls). Tales describe these as glowing with kitsune-bi, or fox-fire. Some stories identify them as magical jewels or pearls. When not in human form or possessing a human, a kitsune keeps the ball in its mouth or carries it on its tail. Jewels are a common symbol of Inari, and representations of sacred Inari foxes without them are rare.

One belief is that when a kitsune changes shape, its hoshi no tama holds a portion of its magical power. Another tradition is that the pearl represents the kitsune's soul; the kitsune will die if separated from it for long. Those who obtain the ball may be able to extract a promise from the kitsune to help them in exchange for its return. For example, a 12th-century tale describes a man using a fox's hoshi no tama to secure a favor:

Quote:
"Confound you!" snapped the fox. "Give me back my ball!" The man ignored its pleas till finally it said tearfully, "All right, you've got the ball, but you don't know how to keep it. It won't be any good to you. For me, it's a terrible loss. I tell you, if you don't give it back, I'll be your enemy forever. If you do give it back though, I'll stick to you like a protector god."

The fox later saves his life by leading him past a band of armed robbers.

It was relatively unintruded on by others and Tomoko was told to keep away from other youkai in the area and thus was not well socialized to what was available outside of books.

However, it was more out of keeping their child focused on her studies than any sort of 'racism' on the part of her parents, though it wasn't uncommon for her father to suddenly swarm out of the house in an angry flurry about something.

Tomoko has been aware, however, of her clan's conflict with the other clan that lives on their mountain as well as their history together. She finds it a source of great frustration.

Tomoko's Family

Tomoko is the middle-member of a family of five. First born child and the first-born girl. While Kitsunes can get anywhere up to 9 tails, her parents come from families of kitsunes that tend to average around 6-8 tails, her mother having 7 and her father having 8. 9 Is a highly prestigious number amongst kitsune, so it's not unusual for there to be some slackers in the tail-numbers.

Because of this, her family has never been very talented at magic, more gifted with intelligence and trickery than setting things ablaze and holding up a good array of illusions. There has been speculation a 9 tailed was once in her family line at some point, so chances are one of her younger siblings may have a chance at the nine tails.

Hibi - Tomoko's father. A middle-late aged kitsune. He waited a little longer than considered 'normal' to settle down with a mate. However, he obviously thinks his only son is the apple of his eye and has been working hard to make sure his boy is at least an 8-tailed kitsune when he grows up. Tomoko adores her father despite the favoritism.

Nemu - Tomoko's mother. She's a little bit younger than Hibi is, but she and her mate seem to be so in love the age difference doesn't matter. She loves all three of her kits dearly and has always been the one to put more effort into both of her daughters (especially Tomoko) in honing their abilities. It was obvious to Nemu first that their eldest child was struggling and may have needed more direction in their schooling than she and her husband could provide.

Rinne and Touya - The baby siblings. Rinne and Touya both sport a trendy two tails and are only a little over half of Tomoko's age. This was the first sign that they were coming along more quickly than Tomoko was, their elder sister having only gotten her second tail around the age of 10. Touya, the boy, is showing a high proficiency for magic which isn't common in their family and is turning into the little family prodigy. Rinne has other concerns in the family history books and has become quite booksmart. Sadly, compared to her siblings, Tomoko is lackluster. She doesn't hold this against them, however.

Tomoko's room is modestly sized for being in the demon dorms, not hosting a private bathroom of it's own but big enough to have a desk, a bed, a small cabinet, a small refridgerator, and a microwave on top of some closet space for what seems like a lot of pillows.

Almost everything is at floor-sitting level, her bed merely a mattress on the floor, though it is fully made up and seems to be the central piece of her room, everything radiating away from it as a central point.

Overall, Tomoko's room is rather welcoming, albeit she seems to have a collection of star charts and other star-related things, almost seeming to have an obsession with such things (which is a true assumption to make).

  • Junko - Tomoko's 'big sister' and the one ghoul in the world who can earn the status of 'Best Friend' from the kitsune even with her attempts to remain unbiased.
  • Seiji - Tomoko's 'big brother'. He's a fun guy and Tomoko knows she can rely on the ghost and that he has her back.
  • Jove - A foxfire ghost that Tomoko met on the island-of-evil-things. Tomoko worries after him and likes to make sure he's OK.
  • Elaphe - A sort of pissy boy who Tomoko met on the island-of-evil-things. She's not sure how she feels about him.
  • Westus - Seems angry a lot of the time. Tomoko wonders if he needs hugs a lot of the time.
  • Barth - Boy she met on the island-of-evil-things. Seems kind of lax on things and isn't very active. Tomoko doesn't know much about him.
  • Professor Malcolm - A nice enough professor, even if she doesn't approve of using whips, no matter how un-harmful they are. He doesn't know how to cook, not that Tomoko minds very much.
  • Vaith - Vaith confuses Tomoko. A lot. More than a lot.
  • Sarias - Is mean to Junko. Tomoko doesn't like Sarias.
  • Cymbeline - Approached Tomoko and Jove on the island-of-evil-things. Tomoko is unsure how she feels about this ghoul and is a bit nervous about her.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Mononoke is Tomoko's oldest pet, and is akin to the grouchy old dog that someone sends off with their child to live with them. In fact, that is exactly what Mononoke is. Previously a family pet, Mononoke was given to Tomoko to remind her of home while she's away at school. He's a crotchety old bugger with absolutely no tolerance for bullshit.

He couldn't possibly give any less ******** href="https://www.gaiaonline.com/gaia/redirect.php?r=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thesporkedken.com%2Fadopt%2Flevelup.php%3Fid%3D8822" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Sune is a delicate and dainty little thing who detests roughhousing and is more like a delicate show-animal who would rather just show off her lovely white fur and preen prettily. She was Tomoko's first pet that was 'all' hers, though her parents helped care for her. Sune seems to have the favor of Desades, but shows her own interest in the older bakekitsune, Mononoke.

Tomoko is rather hopeful she doesn't suddenly have baby bakekitsunes running around everywhere.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Desades is a bit of a squirrel of a bakekitsune, if Tomoko were to put it gently. He's hyperactive, doesn't listen to a thing she says, and probably understands even less of it. Desades was a pet that Tomoko picked up and raised all by her lonesome since coming to school and sometimes questions if she messed up somehow.

A glutton for punishment, Desades has a sort of 'stupid follower' crush on Sune and likes to harass Mononoke. Recently the newest child, Kawadesu, has gained some interest from the hyperactive Desades.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Kawadesu showed up in Tomoko's room one day and she's not quite sure where he came from. A very pink Bakekitsune, Kawadesu seems to not even care that pink is a 'girl' color and is very masculine and almost defensive. He and Mononoke are often at odds over who is the 'Alpha' of the room, however he seems to tolerate Desades much more than either Sune or Mononoke do.

He is the one most likely to bite if a strange comes into the room and has a creepy affinity for Tomoko, inclined to follow her to all of her classes. He's highly intelligent with the ability to open most doors and can trap the other pets with a high success rate.

He'll entertain more nonsense, but he's the quickest to bite without warning when he's annoyed.
