Purple bought a used ps2 to play ps1 games.

It takes FOREVER to load anything.
And sometimes freezes on them.
(more on ps2 games then ps1 games)

I think we need a new laser assembly.
Model no: SCPH-30001 R

Currently trying to find one >.<

All PS3's play PS1 games. I play the old Medal of Honor and Syphon Filter games on my slim version.

Are you talking about that stupid PS1 emulator you can download off the PSNetwork ???

I do NOT count that as backwards compatable.
Only the physical hardware counts.
Especially sence emulators suck because they can't play everything perfect.

Can't see the main menu on my "Vampire Hunter D"
It's there because I can hear the beeps when I move the menu bar.
But I can't see anything.

And the water on FF5 (i think it was 5) flashes yellow with every damn step you take.

Not to mention the screen on FF7 looks like it's shaking if you don't turn on that damn "smoothing" thing EVERYTIME you want to play.

So NO, I'm sorry but I have to dis-agree...
PL3's (slim and fat, alike) SUCK a**, when it comes to playing PS1 games.

What the heck are you talking about, emulator? You put the PS1 disc in the disc slot, and under the Game section it will say "PlayStation Format Disc" and instead of a metallic blue disc it will be black.

He means that the PS3 doesn't have the hardware to play PS1 games; it actually used emulator software, like the kind you can install on your computer. And it has been proven that the PS3 cannot play ALL PS1 games, just most of the most popular ones. There are glitches.

It's a proven fact, what purple said.

The only thing that proves, is that the only games that sony put any effort into accually getting it to play, are more popular ones:
AKA: Medal of Honor and Syphon Filter.

And if I have to report a glitch and then download a patch FOR EVERY GAME that doesn't play the way it should... Then it's worthless.

Playing SOME games does NOT a backwards compatable system make!
I'd love to be able to play my tomb raider gold for pc ON my pc.
I'd love to be able to buy an old computer to do it.
But I have to go through a virtual PC program, that won't even play the cutscenes.

Hardware is ALWAYS better then software.
Especially sence we can't even play American McGee's Alice, that purple bought. (and be able to see everything anyway)

My PS3 will play PS1 games just fine. I DID NOT download anything to do so. Now, it WILL NOT play PS2 games though.

Exactly. I didn't download any kind of software either, it could just pick up and play PS1 games.

I know for a fact that the SLIM PS3 does NOT contain ps1 or ps2 hardware.
(only the first PS3 release ever did)
Sounds to me like you 2 both have a SLIM ps3.
And that the slim PS3 comes with preinstalled emulator software for PS1 games but NOT PS2 games.

Now it's likely that they patched the software for following releases.
(AKA: slim models)
BUT the fact remains that it's still software.
And NOT a TRUE backwards compatable system.
(especially if it doesn't play PS2 games)

ANYWAY
Yes, that's happened to my PS2 in the past.
We sent it to be fixed, and they said there was a problem with the reader.
So keep on looking.

When my PS2 broke down,
it was the laser too.
So I took it on to a repair shop to get it replaced.

After that, a transister on the power supply board shorted.
So I had to buy a new one and solder it on myself,
because the repair shop "doesn't do" repair on individual boards.

One guy told me that if I was REALLY careful,
we could adjust the pots on the bottom of the laser,
to fix this one.
But purple is hesitant, because if it brakes, she won't have something to play her PS1 games in, (that doesn't have visual glitches)
Which is why I was looking for a replacement laser assembly part.

As it stands right now, it plays PS1 games,
it just takes FOREVER to load them.
