As for real places that resemble Matope, it's a pretty alien place, but the Everglades are a good place to start, as Matope was inspired by watching several TV shows about the Everglades in a row. Just like Matope the Everglades have Mangrove forests, Cypress forests covered in kudzu, marshes, and sawgrass prairies.
"Coastline" is a bit misleading. It really looks more like this than a typical coastline like you're probably envisioning. There are sandy beaches but they're mostly sloping out of big salty marshes. And then open ocean, punctuated by a few standing mangrove patches.
Rejam: Okies. Can appleberries be real in Matope? I see them being cherry size and every color of apples and berries but when you bite into them they are like leetle apples. Instead of one big seed they have four little seeds, sorta like a grape. And the different colors denote different flavors, like tart or mild sweet to super sweet.

Lights in the Night Sky x Soul Drift - Her impulsiveness could be interesting, as Soul is rather laid back, and sometimes needs a prod to do something out of the ordinary. If she's the type to do that ,they could work well. If not, maybe you can suggest someone else that fulfills this?
Sweet Meat x Where Secrets Lie -- I'm also trying to get Secrets to legendary, and because Secrets is such a pragmatic, no-nonsense sort of girl, I thought it would be really funny to pair them together for some RP XD

In the first level of the first dungeon, a kobold killed your dog, Shira. Then, you contracted leprosy from a zombie, and lost an arm to it! You struggled back to town, but on the way to the medicine woman, you lost both of your legs. With your carrying capacity greatly diminished, you had to resort to throwing your severed limbs ahead of you to her hut. Unfortunately, you only had enough money for a dose of medicine for the leprosy, and for her to re-attach one arm. Undaunted, you pressed forward, but died of starvation in the second level of the first dungeon :c

That didn’t kill you directly, though – what actually did you in was your wand of lightning breaking in the explosion, and discharging its magical energy through you. Ouch!

You did persist valiantly for a while, though – you tried to use a wand of lightning to kill both Genetrix Venesia and the other carnivorous plants in the room with her, but one of them bit off your leg and then you ran out of charges on your wand of lightning. After that you tried throwing weapons at her, and that worked for a while, but then you ran out of weapons! As you tried to leave her chamber, you were slain by the same plant that took your leg.

You were approached by a Kamikaze Dwarf of Legifer, the Sun God, and, having several wands of teleportation, you teleported him away. And then you ran into him again, and teleported him again. The third time, he came at you around a corner and you had no chance to get away. You survived that, somehow, but not the crowd of carnivorous plants that sprung up shortly after.

I lost track of exactly when Rolan died, but he did, and that’s terrible. But let’s talk about you. You killed Genetrix Venesia, for starters, and made it into the second dungeon. While you were there, you laid Mage’s restless ghost to rest in the most violent, awesome way possible. You welded two swords – a flaming iron sword and a magically enhanced iron short sword. Then you got polymorphed into a werewolf for a while, and that was pretty sweet. You learned about the goddess of nutrition, so you never went hungry. On the second level of the second dungeon, you survived a kamikaze dwarf of some god or other. You also made it through the experimental dwarven minefield in one piece, thanks to your ring of searching. On the third floor of the second dungeon, you survived a second kamikaze dwarf of a different god from the first. Then you got sucked into an eddy in space-time and spat out somewhere I have no idea where and encountered something I have never seen in IVAN before – an expensive fabric couch. Which you promptly sat on. It was very comfortable. Then you got blown up by a third kamikaze dwarf – which you still survived! One of your wands of teleportation broke and sent you on an unexpected trip to right on top of a land mine, though (but on the plus side, you found a hidden room!). You got blown up one time too many and died.

Then you got polymorphed into a mithril golem, so you kicked down some walls and uncovered a hidden staircase! Upon descending, you encountered and killed a glowing green crystal golem – no easy feat! You turned back into a human, so you carefully pilfered what swag you could and got the ******** out of there – that hidden underground is a dangerous place to be! With the glowing green crystal trophy you took from the golem in your pocket, you continued on to the third level of the first dungeon. A magpie stole your trophy, but you won it back by killing the bird. Then you got surrounded by carnivorous plants several times and died.
