Professor Malcolm

PostPosted: Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:50 am
The classroom looked the same as before - pit of doom, solid sandy path now covered with potted plants, stretch of water. The lights were dimmed, for some reason. The Minipet Training Professor was seated on his desk, located near the entrance, as he waited for the students to enter. Vlad - his invisible dog - sat by his side together with three other colored floating collars; you get the feeling that the dogs would be playing a huge part in your examination...

"Your task is easy," He begun once all the students had arrived, "Catch Vlad or any of the pups. Or rather, locate, catch and bring me three of the slips of paper I tucked into their collar; I've placed traps all over the room. They'll try to lead you into one, so be careful - if you get caught, you fail... Unless someone wants to try freeing you and risk getting caught themselves."

Meanwhile, Vlad and the invisible pups had already vanished.

"Oh yes, you get a time limit each," He pointed to some watches on the desk, "Wear one and start the timer when you're ready. The exam starts the moment you press the button - if it sounds before you manage to catch Vlad or one of the invisible pups, it means that your time is up and you had failed."

Exam Mechanics
Every time you roll a dice for something, it is considered a 'turn'. Once you hit 5 turns without getting your 3 pieces of paper, you failed! ICly, this means the timer on your student's watch ran out and you had failed; you can't even hide because the watch makes an annoying BEEEEEEEEP sound.

Remember: To pass, you need at least 3 pieces of papers! If you already got your 3, you may use your remaining turns to help someone out of a trap... But if you get trapped by the end of your 'time limit', you will fail! : DDD

Normal: 1d10
1 - 2 : You found nothing. Loser.
3 : You found Vlad and managed to score yourself 1 piece of paper before he slipped away!
4 : You walked straight into a trap... Fail sauce.
5 : You found Vlad and managed to score yourself 2 pieces of paper before he slipped away!
6 - 7 : You walked straight into a trap... Fail sauce.
8 : You found one of the invisible pups and managed to score yourself 1 piece of paper before he slipped away!
9 : You see Vlad and chased after him... Only to walk right into a trap.
10 : You found one of the invisible pups and managed to score yourself 2 pieces of paper before he slipped away!

Trapped: 1d6
Even : You freed yourself!
Odd : You are still trapped... And you could swear that you heard something that sounded like the laughing of a dog.

Help someone who had been trapped: 1d6
1 - 5 : You freed the trapped person!
6 : You somehow got trapped too.

Description of traps: For IC purposes!
- Fell into a deep hole in the ground.
- Netted to the ground.
- Caught in a giant man eating plant.
- Caught in a giant mouse trap that hurts your pride more than your body.

Those two pieces of information are very important! Also, do not post your character up for arts till this exam is officially over; aka until I make a GM post about it!

Roch looked at the collars, then headed for the watch, snapping it onto his wrist. Then he looked around, blankly, not used to invisible dogs at all. All of his pets were... y'know, visible.

Well, Roch thought, digging through his pockets, if you can't find THEM, then they can find you! He pulled out a stick of jerky, taking a bite out of it as he crouched to the ground. "Here, doggy doggy, you want a snack?" he said quietly, trying not to be noticed by the teacher.

A collar came running to him, and he grinned, grabbing it and dropping the jerky. He slipped two of the sheets of paper from the collar before it squirmed free.

"Two down," he said, holding the sheets up before shoving them into his pocket.

Roch looked around, taking this game far too casually as he pulled out another piece of jerky and munched on it. But seriously, Hel made some awesome jerky, it almost seemed a waste to give an entire piece to an invisible dog!

Nomnomnom. Now... probably time to look for another collar.

He had just a bite left, so Roch crouched down, catching sight of a collar, and held out the bite to him. "C'mere, screechie, Roch's got a treat," he called softly, grinning as the collar hesitated, then bounced over to him. He grabbed the collar as the jerky was yanked out of his hand, and grabbed his last sheet of paper.

"I got three of them!" he called to the teacher, pulling the other two sheets out of his pocket and waving them in the air.

Levi had come into the exam believing one thing: A good practice exam would be a way of showing that she was improving here at Amityville. Yep- when the tatzel entered the room to see Professor Malcolm and a few floating collars, she smiled at her peers and rolled up her sleeves.

Sure thing, Professor!

Chasing down the collars would prove more difficult than she'd thought. She immediately tried to scoop at one with a bounce and an open hand, but not being able to see the mass of the critter was tricky.

The thing about invisible dog catching was that Levi'd been so occupied with the colorful collars that she hadn't seen the Steve-like plant grow out from the ground just as she came within finger-tip reach of one of the pups. ACK-!

The creature coiled a green leafy tendril around her waist while she hissed angrily at the sudden shock of being picked up off the ground.

Sly, Professor. Sly...

She wriggled to no avail.

Well, s**t, Roch thought as he saw Demi's pal, the fish eater girl get grabbed. He'd thought this was easy, and it had been for him, but... well, looked like not everyone carried snacks with them all the time.

With a sigh he summoned his guitar, lifted it above his head, and took a heavy whack at the plant that held her, forcing it to let her go.

"Yo," he said, jumping back from the plant before he could get caught. "You're welcome," he added before she could say anything.

It wasn't letting go and her writhing seemed to have no effect. She'd just about begun to remember her death from the trip then, hoping the incident of being burn to nothingness hadn't weakened her senses or something. Before she could think too much on the matter, a familiar face whacked at the mass of green and vines that held her. The creature whined, flailing its limbs before disappearing back into the hole from whence it came, dropping the tatzel to the ground with a thud.

She gritted her teeth, rubbing at the back of her head before she stood again. He'd helped her out; this friend of Rex's from prom had been considerate enough to get her out of the trap and she felt the need to thank him properly.

But the clock was ticking.

Ah- THANKS!

Levi popped back into chase mode and tackled a collared pup before he had a chance to dart in another direction. She didn't crush the critter, but loomed over it, giving her enough time to grab at a paper.

Oh, it wasn't over. Returning the ground wouldn't mean it was the last she'd see of the giant plant. Another chase would lead her into the company again of the same plant.

YOU-!

Before she could use a few chosen hick-riddled profanities, she was up in the air again, unable to wriggle out of the grasp of the green critter.

((Turn: 1/5))

Petro was surprised to discover who his examiner was. The tikbalang had only heard of their minipet training teacher and hadn't had the privilege to be in his class. Learning the mechanics of the exam, the tikbalang immediately shot towards the direction of one of the floating collars.

He heard rustling from his left and dove for it. Only to end up getting eaten by a rather large plant!

Ya'll gotta be kiddin' me now! CRITTER! She whacked at what seemed like the head of the green mass given what she'd seen of Steve with her free tail. Now what would yer Momma say 'bout this sorta happenin'?! Yes, she was scolding the plant. Coming from a farmer's background, plants were just as much critters as minis were to her.

Ya let me down now 'er we're gonna be 'ere till tha corgons come home!

Whether it was from bewilderment or otherwise, the tendrils of the plant uncoiled from around the ghoul and set her down before once again retreating into the ground; this time with what could've been a whine.

Huffing, Levi set her mind back on the task at hand. Alright, got one. Just need-

And the buzzer went off. She'd run out of time.

Jack dangit, critter... Thanks to the efforts of a certain plant, the tatzel had met the end of the exam with two papers less than what she needed.

Well- ... guess I'll haft watch out fer those when tha real exams 'er a'comin'. Yes. Someone hadn't fully comprehended the note. The tatzel was still under the impression she'd just gone through a practice exam.
