The year 1920 finds the beautiful city of Chicago in an uproar, the streets are filled with the homeless and jobless as immagrants pour in from a devastated Europe. Soup lines abound but it is not just the government or churches who are providing the food. There are also gangsters who use the free food as a way to keep a 'Robin Hood' image with the everyday man. However poverty is only a piece of this town there is also a thriving night life filled with gin joints, jazz and speak easys. These places where people go to forget their woes are provided by men like Al Capone and Bugs Maoran. Criminals who live like kings and are seemingly untouchable and above the law. The law seems to be in the back pocket of the hood, criminals and cut throats and an honest cop seems like an oxymoron. Yet there are still those who want the organized crime out and wish to clean up the streets but they need help to do it and many are too scared or simply prefer the kickbacks of the mob bosses. Then there are the every day men and women trying to scratch out an honest living for themselves and their families. Many are immigrants from parts of the world ravaged by the Great War, hoping for a new future in the golden land of opportunity...
This is the world you have entered where does your character find itself?

ROXY She was glad he took her arm because it showed that he was starting to really like her. As they walked together a bit of snow fell through the street glistening. "So how have things been with the adjustment with the war and with your new job. I felt like I haven't really seen you lately unless it was in passing while I have been at the club." She said trying to make conversation with the walk. She wanted to talk about better things later and maybe with the possibility of talking about what they were later among other things but she was just checking in with him to make sure he was okay.

Richard O'SullivanO'Sullivan shrugged, "Pretty much the same." He knew that they didn't see eachother as much as either of them wanted, but he also knew that they were both busy, "What about you? Your gigs down at that jazz club paying off as well as you'd hoped?" He remembered that she played some stuff down at a local jazz club as well as her job at the Harlequinn, and he wondered how she was doing with those jobs. Those were the types of jobs that lead people onto bigger carears which was what he hopped for Roxy. She worked hard, and she deserved it.

SIC VIS PACEMPARA BELLVM "Das Essen war gut, aber diese Getränke?!?" Gerulf walked out to his car from the Phoenix and got in. He drove around, stopping at places looking for some good booze. Nothing but swill and moonshine. Eventually he decided to head back to the one place he knew there was good drinks...

SIC VIS PACEMPARA BELLVM At the blistering breakneck speed of 15mph, the very inebriated Gerulf makes his way back to the hotel and finds an empty stretch of street to park as straight and not on the sidewalk as he could. Needless to say parking was, in his mind, very easy. The tabby in one of the six trashcans he destroyed will be scarred for life though.

ROXY "Singing at the Harlequin pays okay, us girls get people in the door to make the club more money plus the alcohol being served also drives their profits up as you know but play at the theatre pays pretty well. I am hoping to be a headliner but I haven't made it there yet...How has your adjustment been? I am hoping you are recovering from the Great War and you are making enough money to take care of yourself. I'm suprised you are doing as well as you are now, the mob must be taking care of you." She said smiling.

Richard O'SullivanO'Sullivan shrugged as he thought about himself.. he hated talking about himself, "I'm doing ok. Though having these damned krauts around isn't helping matters much." He knew the mob was a dangerous business, and the presence of the Germans wasn't doing much to settle him down from the Great War, "And the Boss pays ok. He takes care of us, you know." He cracked a smile thinking about her being in a headliner, "You really should go for it." he smiled, "I think you'd be wonderful, and from there who knows what you could accomplish."

ROXY "I unfortuantly can't go for it, there is alot of politics. I have to do something extrodinary that will make them lots of money. The most I can do is be innovative in some of my performances, try new things, hope I win audiences. If I can please the audience I can be a star. I'm still working on that one. I'm glad you are in a good place now." She said as they arrived walking to the restaurant.

Richard O'SullivanO'Sullivan walked silently as she spoke, trying to think of what Roxy could do to spice up her show. She already sung, danced, even flirted with girls... there had to be something else... something that neither of them were seeing. As they reached the restaraunt, O'Sullivan came back to reality and stood at the hosts table, "Two please." he said briefly as he looked at her, "I'm sure you'll figure it out, doll." He smiled as the pair were shown to their seats and handed menus.

ROXY “Yes I know I will, perhaps it’s the politics like I said. You know there are favorites in the biz. Not saying I’m not well liked but it can be hard you have to be very careful in this industry.” She said as they began walking to their table. The table had a white tapered candle lit in front of them with a sturdy wood round table and fine linen napkins. On the table there were two menus.

Richard O'Sullivan"It all depends on who's willing to sleep with who to advance their carear." O'Sullivan commented as he started casually leafing through the menu. He looked at her for a moment, hoping that his comment hadn't given her any ideas. He knew she was a good girl, though their first encounter had been one of a more erotic nature, he knew that she wasn't one to do that haphazardly. O'Sullivan let his eyes fall back to his menu while he searched for something he would like.

ROXY “I can’t say as I would do that or if they others had. But anything is possible.” She said. Roxy began looking through the menu. She gave a very odd look to O’Sullivan as she scanned the menu. She was a little displeased that she had to seat herself. He didn’t even pull the chair out for her. She knew he nevered offered a coat either. She wasn’t really sure why he wouldn’t do that for her. Perhaps he wasn’t falling for her at all after all. Maybe he was just repaying her for sex but she wasn’t sure what to think. She didn’t want to think he was stupid or still messed up from the war either. She didn’t know what to think.
