I don't see 16 gigabytes being useful for any modern application you are ever likely to engage in.
I don't even see it being needed for high quality video editing.
Make sure you're not bottle-necked by a shitty connection like I am.
And I don't think there's a "common asus," There are so many variables just for connectivity and processor pins, let alone performance based differences, like speed. I'd love to see links to the pages for your stuff, if you have them. I wanna compare our rigs cool

my friend uses 3dsmax and photoshop simultaneously, doing anything high res takes him up to 7GB of use, he only has i think it was 8GB in it so it cuts off the applications use. i plan on doing stuff with 3dsmax, and photoshop. basically im planning for the future bro. my old desktop is 10 years old, and its finally reached the point where it can't play top dog. im basically doing that again only this time, not with a server board. a server with two CPU slots would run me 2500 again. not really worth it in the long run.
edit: and if you want, i can just e-mail you the whole list off newegg.

some of the parts might be a tad excessive, but damn if thats within your budget THAT will be like having a second head laying on the floor.
