DISTORTED WORLD OF TRANCE: Another World Another Time

Prompt: You wake up. The first thing to notice is that anything you were holding, even if it was a hunter weapon or even just a rock, is gone and was replaced with a single, thin, stick-like object. Not only that, but your clothing is different and you FEEL a bit different. You also are now in a dark corridor made of stone and lit by torches.

All players: You will need to navigate through the tasks.
- All players may notice something odd: Suddenly all players look like humans. All different shapes and sizes of humans, but humans none the less. Normal for hunters but ODD for students/horsemen being as all their non-human like attributes are suddenly gone. You also notice that you are wearing different clothing. A simple black cloak with nothing on it, really. Under was simple as well. For girls, pleated skirts and simple shirts. Boys... pants and a shirt. Very dull, really. The only thing sticking out color wise was they were all suddenly wearing one of four different colored striped scarfs. Either red and gold, green and silver, blue and bronze, or yellow and black. If you don't get it yet, lets end this section with a famous quote. "Yer' a Wizard, 'Arry."
- Suddenly down one of the corridors you hear the sound of something approaching. Something FAST. You feel a fear within your gut, you do not want to be caught. There is no options, you have a single door in front of you or a dead end. For some reason the wand in your palm feels slightly warm to the touch now, as if it was almost trying to tell you something. Somehow the door opens, and you dart within.
- If you GET CAUGHT you immediately are ejected from the Distorted Portal but even as you close your eyes, you continue to feel the odd clothing and hear the feet approaching ever closer. Your Fear is also at 50%/ Fear shield at 50% for the next 24 IC hours.
- It is recommended that players go through the shifts at the same pace (ie: I am player 1, in shift1, I roll 3 times and wait for the others before ICly proceeding to shift 2 together, though they can skip players that become inactive after 24 hours).
- If your HP hits 0 you are ejected from battle/ YOU ARE DEAD/ you wake up from the Trance.

gaia_crown Step 1: Stage 1

As you enter the room, the door SNAPS behind the last person with a loud bang. At the noise you are immediately greeted with a low growling noise on the other side of the large room in the darkest part. Congrats, you have now pissed off a 20 foot tall three headed cerberus. The only way out seems to be a trap door in the floor behind the giant beast, being as the door that just closed on you will not open. It also seems your wands wont do anything, though you feel oddly attached to the object in your hand for some reason.

- Roll 1d10. You must do this three times.
- If in ANY of your dice rolls you roll 1: the last thing you see is a flash of fangs. YOU ARE DEAD.
- For each time you roll even you gain -20% of your total HP. You feel wearier...
- If you pass, proceed to STEP 2.

gaia_crown STEP 2: Stage 2

You seem to have managed to make it past the giant guard dog, maybe a little more ragged and clawed up... but at least your alive. This time though you are met with something even more strange, a giant chess board. Only the pieces look ALIVE for some reason on the board? As you approach, you find that the pawns look back at you for a moment before walking off the board. One pawn for each player present still. It is assumed you take their place.

The other color on the chess board wont let you pass... unless you win.

- Roll 1d6. You must do this three times.
- For each time you roll even you -20% of your total HP.
-If any of your dice rolls to a 1. You hear a rumbling noise as one of the enemy pieces comes right at you and destroys you somehow. YOU ARE DEAD.
- If you manage to make it through, you are on Step 3.

gaia_crown Step 3: Stage 3. Finally, after the chess game from hell, you have a FEELING that this final room might be the last one. Upon entering flames shoot up from both the door you just entered from, and the exit door on the other side of the small room. In the center of the room you see six vials, none that look the same. Some are tall while others short, some rounded while others square. They are different colors, and yet oddly they all smell the exact same.

The only clue in front is written on a piece of paper, it saying:

" Three will bring victory,
while three bring tragedy.
Which do you choose,
for the odds are equal in all views.
You may select only one,
choose correctly and you are done!
Select the wrong vial though,
and all your sorrows will end and only leave woe. "

Roll 1d6.
- If you roll even, You chose the wrong vial, something tragic and gruesome happens to your character from the poison within the container. YOU ARE DEAD.
- If you manage to pass through this phase you are at the end.

gaia_crown Step 4: THE END.
- You make it in to the final room, expecting it to be something leading outside perhaps?

- Only in your last few moments you hear a deep rasp voice mumbling some words, followed by a sudden green light flashing at everyone in the room. You have died.

- You WAKE UP FROM TRANCE

There was no expressing the panic Xiu felt when a portal suddenly appeared in the middle of the hallway, sucking her in and swallowing her whole.

As classes had already ended for the day, the hallways of Amityville had pretty much been empty as most of the students retreated to their own dorms or to the maul for the rest of the day. Xiu had decided to stay behind for another hour or two to finish up some of her homework in the library, and satisfied with her progress, she had packed up and prepared to leave when it happened.

The only indication that the portal was going to appear was a strange shift in the air, but the baku didn't even get any time to process or react to the shift before the distortion suddenly formed in front of her, pulling her in. And now...

The baku was staring down at herself blankly, lifting her arms so that she could get a better look at the unusual black cloak that she was suddenly donning. A white dress shirt, a pleated skirt, a red and gold scarf...what were these things, and what happened to the dress that she had just been wearing a few minutes ago? And then she noticed something even more alarming.

Her tail was missing.

"...J-just what is going on here?!"

If Xiu had felt panic at the portal that suddenly appeared, what might have described Alexander's feelings best at that moment was something closer to an absolute nervous meltdown at the sight of it, followed by a terrific amount of horror as it sucked him in as well.

He had actually just been visiting the library himself, trying desperately to get caught up on his studies after everything that had happened, knowing that if he didn't he was going to fall behind in his classes. Being dead for a fair length of time tended to make unlife more complicated like that, unfortunately. Eventually he decided that he would actually study better with food in his stomach, and had shoved the books he'd been reading into his backpack, already wondering to himself if it might be worth it to make a trip to the maul to get some food or if he should order something in to his room.

Out in the hallway he slouched along, distracted, finally raising his head to a flash of movement not far in front of him. He recognized the person in front of him, if not by her style of dress and color of hair, then by the tail that swished in the air behind her, a smile spreading across his face. He hadn't seen Xiu since the festival, just after he had 'woken up'. It would be nice to have a chat with her now that he was feeling a lot less disoriented and had allowed himself the time to come to terms with what had occurred and had let the mental trauma healing process begin. He opened his mouth, about to call out to her when it happened. The small shift in the air, and the sight of Xiu as she was suddenly pulled out of sight, stumbling to a halt in his steps with his mouth left hanging open just a split second before getting pulled in himself, letting out a yelp of surprise---

----And then found himself standing somewhere strange, with his hand wrapped around something...almost familiar but not? He could only stand and stare in abject shock at his surroundings. This was definitely not Amityville. The ghoul standing a few feet in front of him...well, it might have been Xiu, if Xiu appeared to be human and wore black robes. In fact, as Alexander glanced down at himself, it was to see that he was wearing black robes as well. He lifted his own arms, giving the pinkish, fleshy colored hands that greeted his eyes....Wait, eyes? He had two eyes again? He blinked in surprise, just before reaching out with the hand not grasping some..branch like thing, to pull up the sleeve of his robe.

Yes, flesh. Skin tone. Not the mottled, greyish green rot that he was accustomed to seeing. No, this flesh that he gazed at was...was human.

Alexander might have let out a sound somewhere between disgust and horror.

With Belladonna busy with her third year exam, Mort had the room to himself. for maybe an hour this was a nice, brief time to himself. And then the whispers began to niggle at him enough that he had decided, for the first time in several days, to leave his room. Just a quick walk around. Just so that something else could fill his head and cover up the soft murmurs. Just five minutes or something.

So of course the one time he went out and was strolling peaceably down a hallway, Mort got sucked into a portal before he could so much as frown at the shift in the air. Just his luck right?

Now loose-fitting clothing was not something new to the zomboil who preferred hoodies and layers of clothes to begin with, so Mort had no real issue with the sudden wardrobe change to long sleeved robes over shirts and pants. But something was . . . off. The hell was in his hand first off -

Mort stared at the pink fleshy thing grasping the twig and at first didn't recognize that he was in control of it. And as he slowly flexed the hand-but-couldn't-possibly-be-hand, he realized that he no longer looked dead. A pat down about his chest and hips told him that there were no holes to be had either. No decaying scent, no buzzing brain, no stitches, no - no blue anywhere. Just pale skin, dark hair, regular eyes, and a black and yellow scarf that reminded him of his Honey Badger days. In short, alive and disgusting.

About the only things that had improved where that his eyesight wasn't so bad, the whispers were stifled, and he now understood what it felt like to have a full, whole male body. And it was . . . far, far too strange to think about just yet.

A familiar voice squeaked nearby, and Mort turned to see that he wasn't the only one trapped in this delusion: someone that could have been Xiu along with a tall boil that he immediately recognized as Alex, wrong skin or not. "What's going on?" he asked as he approached, weirded out to the extreme. "I-Is this a school or something? The hell are these things?" And as Mort raised the stick in his hand, he suddenly noted how he was speaking without impediments.

His free hand flew to his head with abject shock. A . . . A working brain? A whole body? No whispers?

. . . Okay, maybe pretending to be human for a little bit wouldn't be so bad.

The portal had appeared in midair, so suddenly in Taima's flight path that, despite her considerable efforts to wheel away, she had gotten sucked in anyway. She felt a little outraged at that; it was all well and good for all the weird s**t that happened in the general vicinity of Amityville to occur on the ground, but the sky was where she came to escape all of that. This was her airspace, dammit: no weird s**t allowed. If only it worked that way.

Taima literally fell through the portal. When she came out the other side, she did so from a few yards in the air, the momentum she had send her flying forward. It was instinct to try to right herself before she hit the ground, but she was alarmed to find a distinct lack of weight where her wings should be.

And then she was alarmed to find the floor rushing up to meet her. She barely had time to gasp before she hit the ground with a dull thud. Pain immobilized her for a moment before she tried to work herself into a sitting position, but an odd overabundance of cloth had gotten itself wrapped around her. She flailed in a sea of billowy black cloak and floppy green and silver scarf for a moment before just giving up.

Ouch, her dignity.

While the baku was panicking over her missing tail, the sudden appearance of three humans only proceeded to freak her out even more. Where was she, and who were these people? She instinctively raised her fists in front of her as they stumbled up onto their feet, pink eyes wary. Were these hunters, or--

--hold it. While the first boil's skintone was too...alive, and he wasn't rotting...

"Alex?" Faltering, she lowered her hands slightly, turning to look at the other two. That other boil--that was Mort, wasn't it? Like Alex, he looked different--aka significantly more alive--but she recognized his voice. And the last ghoul...

"Taima, right?" That one took a while. Without her wings, the baku had had some trouble recalling the other ghoul's name. She moved forward to lean down, offering a hand to help her up. "Are you alright? I...I have no idea where we are, or what exactly happened, but--"

Before she could finish, she suddenly picked up the sound of something echoing down the hallway. At first, it was faint, but then it gradually grew louder and faster, as if someone was charging down the hall towards them. Growing pale, Xiu glanced left and right, perking up when she caught sight of the door directly behind them. Glancing over to the others, she jerked her head in the direction of said door.

"I don't know about you guys, but I'm not so sure I want to stick around and find out what that is!"

Alexander's emotions ranged from disgusted to confused to slightly panicked as his mind slowly began to absorb exactly what had happened. He had gone through a portal, that much was certain, and now found himself in some kind of...alternate reality? Another voice had him turning, his expression confused until the familiarity of the voice and general appearance (minus rot) of somebody else kicked in.

"Mort?" The zomboil turned wizard might have sounded somewhat dismayed, his shoulders slumping. How did they always manage to get into these strange predicaments? Why, after everything they'd already been through, did they now have to go through more?

He whirled back around towards Xiu when she spoke again as well, a yellow and black scarf fluttering around him wildly as he moved. There was something else that seemed off, his movements too smooth, not jerking or clumsy. And that's when he realized what it was. His leg...his left leg. It felt normal.

He let out another sound, this one more horrified as he leaned down to pat at the flesh on his leg through the fabric of the robes and his pants. "What the jack is going on?" He whined, straightening back up to push his hair out of his eyes.

A sound behind him once more had him turning as another ghoul crashed into the floor. She looked vaguely familiar but he couldn't quite place where he had possibly met her before, though the name that Xiu spoke rang a bell. He moved towards her, movement smooth and not at all like his usual shambling gait as he stopped beside her, wand still clasped in human flesh toned hand.

"Are you alright?" He echoed Xiu's question, before he too heard a sound from down the hallway, and a rather alarming one at that. He reached out a hand towards Taima, an offer to help her to her feet.

"I agree." He said to Xiu. "We need to find a way out of here and back home." He also found his gaze moving towards the door, and he nodded towards it, giving the other three a quick, questioning look.

Jack, it was the strangest sensation to feel itches on his arms from nerves that disagreed with the fabric rubbing against his skin, the thrum of a heartbeat that made his body pulsate ever so slightly, the impending feeling that something was coming for them that made his palms twitch and sweat. Mort felt alive like he never had before, and it was both terribly intriguing and terribly gross at once. And what was most strange was how this fake body was giving him the biggest sense of deja vu.

Then, with a dull thud, there were four. "Well hullo there," he greeted, trying not to be fascinated by the fact that his metal left arm was completely replaced by flimsy flesh.

Mort would have offered to help the ghoul up as well, but it looked as though Xiu and Alex had it covered. So all he did was shake his head a bit at his bro's question and grumble, "Portals. Bah." He had to wonder, though, why the colors in the portal had looked so much like the distortion had upon him in that one hour he had abused the crystal. Did that have something to do with it? Mort glanced at his right hand where the mark of the Initiate had been and saw nothing but smooth skin.

Thor's hum was gone. His brain's hum was gone. All he had was the heartbeat that ran faster and faster as the ominous feeling grew and grew.

"We need to leave now," he told the three and, taking advantage of his restored limbs, nope'd his way toward the door Xiu had indicated with a speed that had him stumbling because, well, since when had a zombie gone so fast?
