This is just a character profile picture I'm making for a friend. We're writing in a story called, "Gaia" and his character is Sabba, so here he is! Comments will be greatly appreciated!

The first, most major thing is... his hand. It's tiny. Really tiny. o-o;
A human hand is almost as long as a head and half the width of the face. That hand is barely the length of his nose. e_e;
The shading is pretty good... some of the folds in his clothing look kind of unnatural... to fix it, next time you draw someone (or this character again) have a friend pose for you, and mimic the folds and creases in their clothing.
The eye on our left is quite large, compared to the other. The angle of his face isnt dramatic enough for it to have such a big difference in eye size. Making that eye on the left a big smaller might help.
I think the nose should line up a bit better with the mouth as well. The center of the mouth is right under the center of the nose, but in your picture the mouth is off to the left.
But yeah. The only major thing is the hand. 3nodding

She also said that the fingers were too pointy like claws. ^^;;; The part I was trying to draw with the hand, however, were the first top two bones in the fingers. The third section, knuckles, and hand are in a downward position so it's covered by the sleeve of his right arm. *nods* And alright. I'll have someone pose for me the next time. 3nodding *nods again* Will do. Aaah... I see what you mean with the mouth now.. It took a while, but I see it. Alright. I'll keep those things in mind next time I draw him. Thanks! 3nodding

And the hair? *shrugs* That's the way he wanted his character's hair. ^^; I agree that it looks strange too, but that's what he wanted... *laughs* Thanks about the comment of shading! xd This is actually my first piece which I started to experiment with shading!

About the shading, I'll just say "Less is more"
In anime, the character are colored flat with just a bit of shading where there are DRAMATIC changes in the light. Keeping it clean witll make more people want to commision you. Cleanness is a real upside to anime, as you can always see indiviudal parts and clothes. In realism, details like abs and specific folds are sometimes lost, while in anime, hard lines define almost everything. But like I said at first, try to use shading sparingly, and you'll get a less PENCILED look and a more inked one.

nice character =] o_o the hand....it scares me....ok i'll shuttup about that since other people mentioned it already. umm i agree with animemichie that the hair is awkward. with this hairstyle, it makes the shape of his skull look wrong(imagine where his skull line should be and you'll see), especially on the top right part. also, where the neck connects to the face, it shouldn't come from the chin, but rather a little to the picture's left. shading is alright, though somewhat lumpy-looking in places. i agree with k33n about how important cleanness is.
it's still an awesome pic and good luck with your story! biggrin

About the skull part, I drew his head bald first and then added the hair... Maybe it's the angle he's in? Eeee!! @_@; I see what you mean with the neck connection.. *nods* Alright. And thank you! 3nodding

just as everyone has pointed out, the hand looks really tiny. I understand what you were trying to do with the hand, but I still think the fingers could be made wider (less, er, claw-like) so the hand will look bigger and more proportionate.
everything else looks all right to me... The shading is pretty well done, although his shirt looks kind of lumpy in places. Still a great picture though. ^_^ Good luck with your story x)

well, realistically, the shadow of the folds would be at different tones throughout the clothing. you need to show more of a dark/light change
