Though the day's forecast had called for rain later in the afternoon, the sun hung low in the sky, shining as brilliantly as Dove figured was possible, though a part of her wished it wasn't. It would resolve this whole outing immediately, were it to start storming now, but her stubborn half, determined to overcome her doubts, delighted in how little an excuse she had not to be there.

So now she stood at the end of the deck, taking a deep breath as she nervously tugged her beach sweater up and off, exposing the markings of recent wounds and a white bathing suit top, as Lovey sat at her feet, watching her trainer's attempts to 'get used to it'.

Dove sighed, feeling incredibly small now, as she folded the sweater and tucked it into her bag. She would get over this, but hiding away and refusing herself something as simple as a walk on the beach with the sun on her skin because she might be seen wasn't going to help in the slightest. Even if she was a model... and possibly damaged. She shook the thought from her head and stepped into the sand, facing yet another challenge, this time, of recent familiarity with even more scarring events, these unseen.

The last time she had found herself here hadn't been pleasant in the slightest, and had set her on a path that she wasn't completely sure she understood herself. This time, she wouldn't have to worry... Today was meant to relax and overcome.

It would be okay.

Her goals pressed to the forefront of her mind, she stood at the ocean's edge, unsure of which way to start walking.

From further down the shore came a flash of purple and blue - a Jolteon, recently evolved and testing its speeds on the broad arena the beach provided. The electric-type slowed out of its sprint to a trot as it recognized human and pokemon forms standing on the beach, circling the pair curiously with its pointed ears high in friendly interest as it barked in greeting.

Just when she thought she had finally decided which way to pursue, her attention was quickly drawn to the unfamiliar pokemon--though it did draw at least one or two memories, she thought-- as it shot out of what appeared to be nowhere and cantered around her and Lovey. She watched it cautiously, jumping a little as it barked, but coming to find that it clearly showed no ill-will toward her or her companion, and returned the greeting with a soft--and somewhat confused-- "Hello...Distance?" She reached out a hand to it, kneeling a little to get a better look, should it choose to come closer.

The eevee at her feet quickly perked up as the Jolteon expressed its greeting and quickly gave one of her own, her fluffy tail waving behind her excitedly as she stepped closer.

Rem tilted her head lightly in a slight confusion. She knew that name; it was the name of the Eevee that kind of looked like her - though she wasn't an Eevee anymore, she supposed. Friendly though the Jolteon was, she had been warned against approaching unfamiliar trainers too carelessly, so she kept her attention sharp. She tilted her head again in the opposite direction, wondering how this stranger knew her sibling's name.

As the pokemon tilted its head in apparent confusion, the girl's brows furrowed. She drew her hand back, as it didn't approach her, and instead settled for looking at it. "Alright, I'll guess you're not Distance, then..." she sighed, tucking her hair back. Tymiko was no where in sight, though she supposed that didn't really mean all that much. If it wasn't the familiar eevee, only evolved, it had to at least be related in some way. However, she refrained from voicing her thoughts just yet and instead looked down the beach in the direction from which it had come, wondering if it had a companion.

Lovey stepped forward, then. she explained.

Some ways down the beach there was what resembled a figure reclining on the beach, though whether or not this individual was the Jolteon's trainer was only very loosely indicated by the way the electric-type followed Dove's gaze in that direction. Rem's ears swiveled forward in attention as she was addressed. <'Cause Distance is my sister,> she replied matter-of-factly, seating herself lightly in the sand.

Dove looked carefully at the figure, then looked to the Jolteon again, deciding that the person further along down the beach might be its trainer, or at least might know where the pokemon had come from. Though she hadn't planned on purposefully making acquaintance with anyone while so vulnerable, she was curious about the coloration of the electric-type's coat, and after a moment more, decided to pursue an answer, choosing to walk along the shore in the person's direction--though she refused herself the luxury and safety of her sweater, pushing herself to get over her discomfort.

Lovey smiled brightly, and waved her tail again, watching as her trainer started off. She giggled.

Rem replied earnestly, her eyes bright with attention. Without waiting for a response, she jumped up, fell into a ready posture, and went tearing down the beach towards the figure.

Said figure lay on the ground, more interested in the color of the sky than the fact that his hair and clothes would be covered in sand later. Slipping into reverie was as easy as it had ever been for Luke, perhaps even more so with the events that had transpired as of late. The familiar bark of his Jolteon approaching from a ways away drew his focus from the broad blue ceiling to the small shape of Rem as she returned, noting that she wasn't returning alone and pushing himself upright.

Lovey smiled even brighter at the evolution's enthusiasm, but blinked as it took off without waiting to see if she would follow. With a laugh and the knowledge that she would never win against the pup, no matter how quick she might be, the eevee took off after the new friend, flying past her trainer.

Dove paused as the two pokemon zipped by, then continued forward, only to pause again as she recognized the figure laying--now sitting-- in the sand. Immediately, a heavy feeling of insecurity washed over her, and she hugged her sweater closer to her middle; she wouldn't put it on, but at least it would deter a good look at her sides, and it wouldn't count as giving in... not really.

With a calm and warm smile, she stepped closer again, looking as though she was afraid she might be intruding. "Hey, Luke," she greeted with a wave, looking again to the pokemon as Lovey barked playfully to the Jolteon. Her eyes quickly sought out the boy again, soon after. "Is this energetic little Jolteon yours?" she asked, giggling a bit as Lovey flopped into the sand closeby.

These days, there was really no such thing as an unwelcome distraction; he held his hand out to the Jolteon, but she passed it to circle around him and sit nearby. With an internal shrug, he repurposed the hand's movement as a wave in greeting, "Hey." He looked back to Rem briefly as she was mentioned. "Yeah, she is. Sorry if she bothered you - she's still getting used to the evolution." And seemed to be enjoying the speed that had come with it.

Dove shook her head, her smile the slightest bit brighter. "Oh, no... She wasn't at all. She's actually quite adorable..." she mused aloud, as she admired the Jolteon. She tucked her hair back as the breeze caught it and tossed it over her shoulder, then looked to Luke again. "You know Tymiko, right? And her eevee, Distance? Are the two from the same litter?" she asked curiously. If not, the colorations were very oddly similar, though there was no way she could believe that could be coincidence.

Rem tilted her head, maintaining her keen attention on the understanding that she was being spoken about. Luke nodded lightly in response, "Yeah, Tymiko gave her to me as an egg a while back." A long while. Something like a year, really. "There are two others like Rem and Distance, too, but I've never seen them."

Lovey picked herself up and then trotted over to Luke for her own greeting, nosing at the boy's hand, and waving her tail excitedly.

With a mildly embarrassed look at Lovey, Dove nodded again to Luke. "I thought she looked familiar...She seems to really be enjoying her new form," she commented, feeling out of place as she stood with her sweater bundled in front of her stomach. "How have you been?" She hadn't seen him in a while, at least since they had been walked through the basics of gun safety with Yuri, and he had seemed rather uncomfortable at the time. He at least looked more relaxed now, though she knew from experience one could never be entirely sure.

Luke patted Lovey's head gently, maintaining a quiet smile. "Yeah, I'm glad. I was kind of worried she might not like it, but it looks like she's getting along fine." He had spent so long certain that the Eevee would become a Vaporeon that it almost seemed strange to have Jolteon at his side.

The general inquiry after his well-being caused the ease in expression to falter just slightly, and his eyes reflexively fell towards the ocean. "A kind of been-better-been-worse sort of thing, I guess," he said, keeping levity in his words. "I don't have a whole lot of reason to complain, myself." The ones who could complain were Seraphine and Rosie, each facing every day with the knowledge that fundamental parts of their lives were now irreparably changed. "How about you?"

Lovey rubbed her head and mane against Luke's hand until satisfied with her greeting--and his attention-- then moved toward the Jolteon again, smiling brightly.

Dove smiled contently, nodding at his appraisal of the pokemon's state, then listened carefully as he offered report of his own well-being. Though she didn't miss the slight skip in his expression, she held her smile, hoping the lightness of his tone was a better reflection of how he really felt. "Well, that's...good, I guess?" she laughed softly, though it faded somewhat too quickly. "I suppose I'm kind of in the same place." Sort of. She was aware of the extremely high probability that their situations were vastly different, but the assessment seemed to fit her situation just as well, even if for reasons she would assume would be held in much less regard in other's minds than her own opinion.

After a moment's pause--perhaps a bit too long-- she tilted her head. "What have you been up to? Training?" she asked, giving a meaningful glance toward the Jolteon he had said just evolved. She supposed her question could have included gun training, but she refrained from being specific, unwilling to bring up what had seemed to be an uneasy topic so soon in their conversation, if ever.
