Hey guys!
I learned about a new bug on the internet over on another site I frequent.
You all may want to consider changing your passwords for a lot of sites you use.
The bug is called Heartbleed, you can read more about it here, and for those of you interested in reading even more, there's a slightly more technical writeup over here.
The gist of it is that there was a flaw in something known as OpenSSL, software that something like two-thirds of sites around the web use to encrypt their data (including Facebook, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft services), which allows people to obtain encryption keys and other information, such as passwords, from computers and servers.
Most major sites, like those listed above, had already applied fixes to their most used services before the bug was made public, but if you visit a still vulnerable site, any information you transmit to it is still subject to discovery, so you may want to check a site here before you go putting in any important info or changing passwords.
Stay safe on the web, everyone!
