Amber Castello" Say, how about we eat at this restaurant for lunch?" Amber asked her boyfriend in a cheerful tone, gently gripping his hand. The young blonde was out on a date with her boyfriend, Johnny, whom she hadn't seen in a few weeks, though she had assumed he was simply busy with work. Amber was going to make the most out of their date by spending as much time as she possibly could with Johnny before he had to leave to rest and go to work once more. She glanced up at him with bright hazel eyes, a large smile plastered on her face, " I've heard that they serve wonderful sushi here." Johnny scoffed lightly as he ran his fingers through his midnight-colored locks. He didn't seem too pleased with her choice, " Sushi? Every time we're out together, you always want to eat sushi. You're too predictable, Amber," he complained with a sigh. He looked off to the side, not even bothering to look down at her with his dark brown eyes. Ever since Johnny's workload increased, he seemed less and less interested in her, and more bored than anything. Amber frowned for a moment, trying to ignore the harsh words that stung her. She took a deep breath as she forced out a small smile, " Well... what do you want to do, anyways? We can go anywhere you want," she reassured him. The boy pulled his hand away from hers, shoving them into the pocket of his worn blue jeans, " I think I should head home. This wasn't even a good idea to come out." Amber thought for a moment before smiling a bit more, " I know! I'll come with you, and I could cook you some lunch-!" she started. " Don't even bother!" Johnny shouted at her, turning his head to look at her, " You're a boring, small-town girl that isn't even adventurous! Do you even know how tired I get with being with you?!" A few onlookers passing by stopped a bit in their tracks, glancing over to see the young couple fighting. Amber had a look of shock on her face. Tears began welling up in her eyes as she stared up at him, ignoring the people that stared at them, " Wait... why would you say something like that about me..? I've done my best to make you happy.." she whimpered.

The master was angry.
It shouldn't have been much of a surprise really. Master Reece was always stressed out during the week preparing for a show. That the opening night was tomorrow made it even worse. Maxinon shuddered at the thought of the screams and potential pain that was going on in the camp. He had managed to get away with his job - putting up last minute flyers in the town and buying the necessary items for his fellow performers - but he was dreading heading back.
Maxinon stapled another flyer on a post, ignoring the furtive whispers and eyes boring into his back. He was well aware how much he stuck out in his slightly ragged but no less colourful clothes. They weren't for performance purposes, merely as an extra advertising strategy. Maxinon was only grateful that Master Reece was not one for the classic big feet and red noses. As it was, the lightly ruffled shirt chafed at his wrists. It was almost worth getting home early just to change into one of his loose, more comfortable shirts.
Paying no heed to a man who cast him a suspicious look before edging around him on the pavement, Maxinon glanced down at the list of things left to do before looking around. Just need to go to a plant store now and get food for Lila, one of the circus' unfortunate freaks.
He walked a little down the road, unsure which way to go, having not seen any sign of a plant store but unwilling to ask any of the people staring at him. As he went, he noticed a couple going down the opposite way. The girl had oddly coloured hair and looked happy walking alongside the guy Maxinon assumed, based on their closeness, was her boyfriend.
Or.. not? He tilted his head, a little confused when the atmosphere between the two changed abruptly. The girl suddenly looked upset and the guy...appeared bored? Maxinon shook his head lightly. He had never managed to understand the relationships normal people had. Still, he pondered, frowning at the unhappy female, he had never been one to stand by while a girl was being deliberately hurt. And Maxinon could tell she was; the expression on the guy's face said it all.
But how to approach without coming off completely intruder-ish?
Maxinon glanced down at the list of things to do in his hand, blinked as the idea occurred to him and smothered a grin.
He stepped up to the quarreling couple with a few deliberately hesitant steps. "Um. Excuse me?" He flashed his best friendly yet slightly helpless smile. "Would either of you know where the nearest plant store is?"

Amber Castello" Why is it that you have to be such a blubbering idiot?!" Johnny scolded her, just as the crimson-haired boy approached them. Amber choked out a couple of sobs before looking up at the crimson-haired boy that looked to be lost. She wiped the tears away from her face with balled fists, taking in the boy's features. He was wearing shaggy clothes, and he certainly didn't look as though he were normal. Then again, Amber didn't want to jump to any conclusions. Halloween was just around the corner. Perhaps he was dressing up for the fun of it. Johnny snarled his lip at the boy, turning his body towards the smaller boy. His larger frame seemed to tower over the crimson-haired boy, " Beat it, kid! Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?!" he told him, " And what the hell is with you?! Looking like that in public... You look like a damn freak!" Amber bit her lower lip. She didn't care if Johnny was yelling at her in public and humiliating her, but to humiliate this poor boy certainly was going too far. She stepped up to the boy, shooting a glare at the dark-haired man, " That's enough, Johnny!" she told him, " He's lost, and if you won't help him, I will.. Actually, you know what? Since you're so bored with me, I think it's best if we break up. You were planning on doing that anyways, right?" She gently grabbed the boy's arm and led him away from her, now, ex-boyfriend, trying her best to keep her composure. Amber let out a heavy sigh as she led the two away from the scene, " I'm so sorry about that," she apologized, smiling a bit at him, " He had no right to call you names. I think your outfit's adorable. You said you needed help, right?"

Maxinon barely resisted the urge to curl his lip when the taller boy threw angry words at him. Just because Maxinon got that same sort of crap from the Master did not mean he had to put up with this...human's crap also. But retaliation against a normal was forbidden, and if he caused any trouble the day before the show started...
Hell hath no fury like the Master enraged.
Luckily for him, the girl didn't look too happy with the insults directed his way, and actually came to his defense, even though her face was streaked with tears. In the space of what appeared to be one breath, she had declared their relationship over, grabbed Maxinon and directed them away from the now spluttering ex-boyfriend.
He stared blankly at the girl before lightly laughing. She honestly thought this outfit was adorable? Sure it had some sort of style but...
Maxinon shrugged. "It is alright. My skin is too thick for words to hurt." He looked a little worried then. "But I hope... I mean... You didn't break up with your boyfriend just because of that, did you?"
He sincerely hoped not. No one needed to change their relationship just because of what was said to a traveling freak.
Looking down at the paper in his hand for a moment, he held it up to show her what he needed. "I need to buy these at a plant store." A pause. Then with a little bit of panic, "I can get these there, right?"

Amber CastelloAmber shook her head at the boy as she wiped the tears off of her face. She wanted to make herself look, at the very least, decent while she was in public. She had already bee humiliated enough by Johnny's outburst, " Please, you have nothing to apologize for," she reassured him, " I think he was going to dump me anyways, so... In a way, you came to save me. Plus, with your costume, I can focus my mind on Halloween instead of Johnny this year. So thank you for that." The boy held a wrinkled piece of paper out to her, asking for something from the garden shop. Amber looked down at the paper before smiling, letting out a small sigh, " Of course you can find this at a garden shop. Do you want me to take you there and help you get it? It's the least I can do to thank you for helping me out earlier with Johnny... and also as my way of apologizing for him calling you a freak."

"Oh. Well. That's a relief." He nodded to himself for a second before realising exactly what he had said. "Not you breaking up, I mean! That's terrible - but I didn't want to cause it or anything - though maybe if he made you unhappy it is for the best? - no, wait, it's still bad for you - it's just-"
The nervous tirade was stopped only by him physically clamping both hands over his mouth. Maxinon winced. Was it a result of spending years trying to say the right thing, or was he just nervous? This was, after all, the first time in ages that he had spoken to and was treated by a normal person as though he was normal too.
He was hard pressed to look her in the eyes, still embarrassed by his babbling, but he did need her help, and if it meant he could hold onto this semblance of normalcy - even if his mouth seemed determined to ruin it - then he was going to take advantage of it as much as possible.
Slowly lowering his hands, he nodded once. "Yes, please." His voice was considerably quieter than the earlier long stream of words as he put extra effort into controlling the haze of thoughts that were going full speed around and around inside his head. He smiled a little at her words. "It's alright. It is kind of my job, being a freak."
There was no trace of self-loathing in his voice, despite his feelings on the matter. Years of calling himself a freak, and worse, in front of others had warranted the development of a tough skin.
In case he needed to explain his easy acceptance of the term though - because he doubted normal people usually called themselves freaks - Maxinon dug out one of the extra flyers in his bag and handed it to her. "I'm part of the circus performing tomorrow. It's opening night, so the Master is going to pull out all the stops." And then some. Opening night was always the night for leaving the best first impressions.
And woe betide any performer who failed to do so to the fullest.

Amber CastelloThe young blonde gently took the flyer from the boy, looking down at it. It looked almost hand drawn as she quietly read the words on the paper before her, " You perform in a carnival?" Amber asked curiously, almost interested in the boy's life. She let out a smile at him as she neatly folded it up, slipping it into her bright pink purse that hung over her shoulder, " I'll happily come and watch you perform. Anyways, the garden store's just this way," she said, walking down the sidewalk. Amber folded her hands behind her back, smiling happily at the boy as though her breakup with Johnny never happened. Though, she was doing her best to put on a brave face for this circus performer, " It really wasn't your fault that he and I broke up, so you have nothing to apologize for. Really," she reassured him, " Like I said, I think he wanted to break up with me. Before you came up to us, he was telling me how boring and predictable I was. I think he was even trying to call me stupid, too. So I really apologize that you had to come rescue me from that humiliation, only to be humiliated, yourself."

Oh goody! Maxinon smiled at her easy willingness to attend the show. That was one more empty seat filled. Always a good thing, as the Master always said. And it was one of the few things Maxinon and the Master ever saw eye to eye about. He only just stopped himself from skipping along at her side as they headed to the store. "That's great! Master will be very pleased! He always prefers it when the tent is full."
Her assurance over what happened with her ex-boyfriend did much to assuage him, though he was still not entirely certain his presence hadn't exacerbated things more. Still, he smiled dutifully. "That is good to hear. I do not like causing such unhappy things to occur. And there was no humiliation on my part," he added, in case she decided to feel guilty about that. "Like I said, such things are normal for freaks like me."
The store was apparently only a few minutes away. Maxinon eyed the colourful display of flowers outside before tentatively edging his way in and looking around. A quick re-checking of his list and minutes later, he had the required plants in hand, easily balancing several heavy bags worth of them.
This time his smile to the girl was grateful. "Thank you very much for your help. I greatly appreciated it." It was then it occurred to him that he had yet to go through the most basic of common courtesy rituals - that of self-introduction. Hiding a wince, he sketched a short bow, perfectly executed even laden with plants as he was. The Master had never brooked faults no matter the situation. "My name is Maxinon. It was very nice to meet you."

Amber CastelloOOC: It's no problem. ^.^ Amber raised an eyebrow as she eyed the red-haired boy curiously. Who was this 'Master' that he spoke of? It was almost as if he was talking about him being a real life freak. She didn't like it at all, " Hey.. you're no freak, okay? Just because Johnny called you one, doesn't mean that you really are one. You're a nice person who came to save me. If you ever need saving, I'd come save you, too." It didn't take them long to arrive at the garden shop. Several plants and flowers were displayed outside for a last minute sale before bringing them in for the winter. Amber glanced at him with her hazel eyes as he introduced himself. Maxinon. It was such a strange name, but it was one she wasn't bound to forget. She smiled brightly, holding the ends of her skirt as she curtsied at him, " It's nice to meet you, too, Maxinon. I'm Amber Castello. I'm still so sorry about what Johnny said earlier... Maybe one of these days, I should take you some lunch some time? After I see your performance this weekend, of course."

Maxinon could almost feel his cheeks threatening to turn pink at her offer. As it was, he hastily forced it down. "That..." Would be a little difficult, considering the Master did not tolerate his freaks hanging around with normal people outside of shows. But Maxinon knew this time he would be determined to try his best at making sure it happened. "That would be nice." It was accompanied by a warm smile.
Time was moving on and as much as he wanted to walk back to the circus area with her - Amber, such a pretty name - Maxinon didn't dare. Once they had exited the shop, he spun on one foot to face the girl. "It's time for me to depart now. I will see you tomorrow at the show?" It was a hopeful half-question. "Thanks again for your help!" He sketched another polite, lightly fancy bow before all but skipping away.
High spirits seemed to stick with Maxinon for the rest of the day, though he did his best to curb it whenever the Master came nearby. As it was, by the time he and the others were finally allowed to sleep, it took him a while to close his eyes. He lay curled up on his pallet, imagining tomorrow and a hazel eyed girl who would hopefully come with it.
Next day...
"Come one, come all! Welcome to the greatest show on this earth!"
The loud voices of the clowns echoed over the chatter as people steadily poured into the large show tent the performers had spent the past several days setting up. Maxinon stood among several of his fellow freaks, them being considered the more normal looking ones - the Master enjoyed saving the truly disfigured for later on. He and the freaks were posing and performing tricks, enticing the visitors and encouraging them with little previews to enter the tent.
As he spun rings up and down, flipping over and back and exchanging sets with Nono - a creamy haired freak with odd white eyes - Maxinon's gaze couldn't help but travel around the crowd, searching for the familiar flash of long blonde hair and hazel eyes.
She was going to come...right?

Amber CastelloOOC: Yeah, it's always better to do a time skip at some points. ^.^ Amber was more than excited to head out to the circus the next day. After her run in with Maxinon, she was ready to see him perform whatever he may be doing. Perhaps he was a juggler. Or one of those that could shoot flames out of his mouth. Either way, Amber was excited to see him perform, and help cheer him on after yesterday's humiliation with her ex-boyfriend. She nearly skipped her way into the circus, buying a ticket from the ticket booth, and looked around for the crimson hair amongst the crowd that had already gathered on the circus grounds. Taking a few steps into the grounds, Amber scanned around. She let out a heavy sigh of defeat, being unable to find Maxinon. Walking further onto the circus grounds, Amber spotted the freak show tent, seeing two of the freaks tossing rings to each other, advertising for patrons to enter the tent. She gasped as she saw one of the 'freaks' was Maxinon, juggling the rings in his hands. Amber didn't know why he would be at the freak show tent. She ran over towards him, a large smile finding its way to her face as she approached him, " Maxinon! Hey! I told you I'd come!" she called out.
