Oliver was a bit nervous about the trip. He had never had a good experience in the haunted house, even when he had someone higher up around to protect him. Now it was his turn to be the leader, a thought that he had lost sleep over despite the routine nature of his task.
Collecting samples and testing new equipment was the same as always, but he would be paired with a Mist trainee this time. First to try their hand in a Moon capacity, watching his back while he got the measurements he needed, but also to receive an introduction to a bit of Life division fieldwork. Oliver fretted over it for some time, and then when he found out it was Arorangi accompanying him he fretted for entirely different reasons. There was no pleasing the kid when the haunted house was involved.
On the other side of the portal it was just as gloomy and misty as he remembered... With a nervous frown he pulled the first gadget out of his bag and turned it on, waiting for Aro to arrive behind him.
Quote: Thanks guys for helping test out a thing, I have no idea how it will go, but at least it will provide a baseline for tweaking later! Here's the basics on what I've worked out, let's try the optional rules for this one to make things interesting!
Extra Action:
Instead of fighting during their battle turn, Hunters can roll regular attack dice for their rank and apply the -6 modifier to collect a sample. The 'attack' you roll is the percentage of sampling complete, whether you are scanning an area, physically collecting samples, etc.
Goals:
* Hunters - Collect 100%, don't die. * Halloweeners - Take down at least one hunter.
Optional Game Rules:
* If a hunter successfully takes a sample, attack to them do double damage while they are preoccupied. * If a sampling hunter is defended, there is no doubling of damage. * If a hunter 'misses' a sample, attacks to them do no damage since they can retaliate.

Arorangi had not been to the Haunted House in a long time. However, Oliver had asked him along, and he was not about to say no, especially to his best mate, and especially when Oliver was doing his best to take on a project of his own.
He appeared soon after his friend on the other side of the portal, Arorangi's bright, cheerful smile standing out in sharp contrast to the shadowy, gloomy atmosphere of Halloween.
"So, little bird," he said jovially. "How does this go about, then?"

The air had felt funny, she thought. The air had felt funny, and that was all the warning she got before she was suddenly not walking to her dorm. The white had come, clouding her eyes even further, taking away what blurred vision she had. Harmony had closed them, waiting for the light that so hurt her to fade, waiting for the world to right itself. It didn't. Instead, a something creaked and settled around her and it smelled like old wood, like a forgotten house that had moldered a little too long. Smelled forgotten.
It was foreign and terrifying. Harmony immediately latched onto the ceiling, hanging from both tail and feet. Too many creeple never looked up; it was safer. She scuttled back into the corner that felt the darkest and waited for the house to change back, a soft hissing noise escaping her mouth.

How Aro could be so cheerful even in this creepy place, Oliver could only imagine. He wandered warily to the porch on the haunted house, trusting his friend to follow.
"Um... it's pretty easy, you just wait for this thing to load the current FEAR levels... Connect this thing there... It's got coordinates up here in this corner of the display, and you check that against this little number here on the SPECTRE watch and note down whether there is a reading difference and by how much for each coordinate you check..." It might have been a straightforward process, but the amount of juggling Oliver was doing between a gadget, a scanner, his watch and a notepad that had appeared in his hands could only have been achieved through a great deal of practice. On top of all that, he nudged the creaky door to the Haunted House open with a hip, and then held it open for Aro with one foot.
Glancing around as he entered, the gloomy shadows remained still around them. There was no movement in the darkness, no sound save for the old creaks of the house, and the hiss of... house things?
"Aro... Do you hear that?" Oliver asked, suddenly stopping in his tracks.

Arorangi did indeed follow, his footsteps heavier on the creaking wood planks of the porch than Oliver's were. His staff was already out, held loosely within his large fingers, and he peered curiously around at their surroundings, wondering how much they were going to be doing today.
He nodded at the explanation, though Arorangi did reach out and put a hand briefly on Oliver's shoulder to give it a squeeze.
"You are going to drop something if you are not careful, little bird," he said with a laugh and let go, the end of the spear tapping against the ground as he stepped into the House. It was dark and dingy, shadows cascading everywhere, and webs of spider's silk were draped over the beams and the walls.
Arorangi glanced at Oliver, eyebrows raised.
"Hear what?" he asked. "Is there something in here, do you think?"
