In the year 2107 humanity has changed quite a bit. Machines and human minds have become integrated, where people can plug directly into computers and each other. While this has brought about many wonderful things, it also means that people can be hacked, have their memories erased, changed and even downloaded with viruses. The government is also fighting in an arms race to stay one step ahead of gangs and their like to prevent the hacking of it's citizens. A new rebel group has popped up, causing quite a few problems while claiming the government isn't nearly as benevolent as they appear and something is wrong with the system.

Corky was never one for orders and chain of command. He knew his job. He knew what to do. But he was never one to try and rise through the ranks and be taken out of the field and stuck with a desk job. Forced to write reports and mission statements while never actually putting his true abilities to good use. It was this meandering that left him here. About to make an entrance through the back of an office building in an attempt to flush out some well armed, well dug in rebels. This day couldn't be getting much worse.

Akira waited by the back door next to Corky while the rest of the team got into position at the other entrances of the building. They had finally managed to corner some rebels who had been causing no end of trouble the last few months. The various gangs had been a cake walk to deal with compared to this group who seemed to have some sort of inside access to information, but a informant had yet to be found. The rebels were dug in and would make the team fight for every inch, Akira knew that much. There were a few others who would wait outside and prevent anyone from escaping, but Akira and Corky were to go into whatever hell waited inside and deal with the problem. “Ready?” She asked as the last team got into position. It was time to dive in.

Corky pulled the bolt back for one final brass check. "Burst or single shot only. We don't need to spray and hit a civi." He didn't bother with a silencer since the charge on the door would give them away anyways. "On my mark..." He clicked the detonator. A resounding blast shook the building and blew the steel door off the hinges. "Mark." He was the first one through the door. Clearing the first room. He stepped out the door into the hallway but dove back in quickly as two, maybe more, guns opened up in his location.

On his mark Akira entered the first room close on Corky’s heals. Fortunately it was empty, but they weren’t so lucky with the hallway as gun fire sprayed in their direction. She smoothly stepped to the side and pressed her back against the wall while her partner dove back in. “They’ve got the hallway locked down. Prepare for a flashbang.” They were using the network to communicate instead of speaking out loud so the rebels wouldn’t hear them. She unhooked a flashbang from her belt and threw it down the hallway without looking. A few seconds later it went off and with it she went charging back into the hallway ready to disarm the rebels. Their primary objective was to capture as many as they could for questioning, only killing when necessary, but she had a feeling they’d be killing a lot more than capturing if every floor was like this. She managed to disarm one, pulling the gun from his hands and throwing it down the hall before the effects of the flashbang wore off, before kicking the rebel’s feet out from under him. Hopefully Corky was dealing with the other one.

Corky felt a slight sting as the electronics in his left eye clicked on. It was an older model and not without its issues but it couldn't be beaten in terms of reliability. He turned the corner to see Akira taking out a rebel. A digital IFF hovered over her head. He aimed at the other enemy, still reeling from the flash bang. Two bursts were spat out of the rifle. One catching the rifle in his hands, destroying the trigger and action. The second caught his leg, spraying the room with a mixture of blood and metal. He was obviously using a few enhancements. A quick rifle butt across his jaw was enough to put him down for the count. "This doesn't feel right. These guys are well armed and have upgrades. We were briefed about a couple punks trying to cause a ruckus. He bent over and picked up the shattered rifle. "I could sell this and still match my own monthly paycheck."

She finished off the rebel she’d been dealing with by rendering him unconscious before rolling him over onto his stomach where she then restrained his arms behind his back in case he woke up. Akira frowned slightly, but gave a slight shrug. “Perhaps we had some bad intel and these guys have some rich backers.” She commented before mentally switching channels to speak to the rest of the team. It wasn’t the first time she’d had a mission where the information had been incorrect before leading to the loss of lives on their team. “I’ve got two here ready to be picked up. They are better armed than anticipated so watch yourselves.” With the room clear another team would come behind them and pick those they’d managed to subdue and take them away for questioning. With that done she motioned for Corky to lead the way into the next room.

"I swear, whoever was on Intel for this job is getting a foot up his a**." Corcoran yelled as a pair of shotgun blasts ripped a dinner plate sized hole in the wall inches from his head. He returned fire through the new hole. Six bullets, all in shoulders and kneecaps. There were going to be a few unlucky emergency rooms but the morgue would remain empty. It had been under two minutes since they had busted in and half of the building had been cleared already. He went back into comms instead of yelling. "We have a basement left to clear. Server room based on the schematics. Close quarters and lots of expensive stuff to break." He took point and kicked in the door.

“Make that two feet.” Akira answered as Corky returned fire at his would be killers. While they were more than capable having the correct intel was important so they knew what they were up against. Now wasn’t the time to be questioning how these guys could get their hands on such hardware unnoticed. Their targets didn’t seem to be worried about the server room or the cost of the equipment. In fact they seemed to be actively trying to destroy it when he partner broke down the door. Shots rang out and Akira dove to the right to dodge them. Smoke quickly filled the room so she switched to infrared vision however the hear from the servers interfered with that mode making it difficult to locate the enemies. She muttered a curse. “Do you see them?”

Something was strange his eye should be filtering out the smoke from his vision allowing him to see the two gunmen. The smoke was gone but do so we're the enemies. He quickly turned off some auxiliary systems primarily relating to comms and processing in an attempt to put more power to his vision. Still nothing. Then is clicked. "optical camo" he yelled. At that moment something slammed into him and knocked him to the ground. His gun was sent across the floor. There was a brief flicker of an human outline in front of him. He drew his revolver and fired. The S&W .500 bullet hit with a metallic thud. Body armor. He fired the other five rounds in rapid succession. He was sprayed with a mix of blood and oils from the cybernetics. The body slumped to the ground in front of him.

“What?!” Akria shouted in surprise. Expensive guns were one thing, but optical camo was serious hardware. Their team couldn’t even get their hands on it serious hardware. That stuff was kept under lock and key, carefully monitored and tracked. Only the highest ranked special ops teams got them and the equipment was ripped out when they left special ops. Body recovery of anyone killed in action was the highest priority of anyone with optical camo. “How in hell-“ She began, but before she could finish her sentence an invisible force struck her, a sucker punch right to the stomach. A second blow to the side of the head sent her to the ground. She mutters a string of curses under her breath. She needed to get her head in the fight instead of worrying about how they got their hands on such tech. A kick to the ribs and Akira made her move. She swiped her legs to the side the kick had come from and felt them connected with the invisible attacker, which was followed by the thud of a body falling. She drew he pistol, but before she could shoot in the general direction of where she thought her opponent would be a second attacker was on top of her, wrestling the gun from her hands. Things weren’t looking good and they were at a serious disadvantage here.
