The air was cool around him, and as he shut his eyes he felt a wave of calm rush through him. He could hear the water move as he float along the water, his ear-buds in his ears as he listened to his waterproof music player that could always be seen attached to his choker. His parents still didn't understand how much he appreciated such a gift. The ability to ignore the world as he float along the water, was so serene. He enjoyed the peace that was his moments in the water alone, thinking of nothing but the feeling of the water around him and the tempo of the music.

It was another quiet day for him. He felt like nothing was going to interrupt that and he could just enjoy it all for as long as possible. But when he suddenly felt a presence in the room and opened his eyes, he knew something was wrong. His father never bothered him when he was in the pool, no one ever did. They knew it was the only thing that kept him sane in a world he couldn't understand. So his presence now, was rather unsettling for the male that moved towards the edge of the pool. As he looked up at his father, that unsettling feeling in his gut started to spread again. Something had to be wrong, or else the man would not have such a grim expression on his face.

He shut his eyes a moment as he tried to find the words that would show just how he felt about what his father said just now. He must have heard them incorrectly, prayed that he did. His parents were sitting in front of him with faces that could only show the difficulty of what they were saying, and he was sitting across from them. He knew he had to have heard wrong if he heard the name Damien Johnson and marriage in the same sentence. The two families hated each other beyond belief, and now they were suddenly having private conversations on marriage? When did his parents even find the time to have a meeting with these people without him knowing? Now, he wouldn't have cared, would be open to the idea if two things didn't factor into the situation. The fact that the families only had male heirs and the fact that he would be marrying a stranger whom he has heard nothing good about.

From what he hears, he was a not like Ryan in his quiet and mysterious personality, but was actually more impolite. Now, there were mixed words about the other man, he was aware. But it was hard to know which was the true self. The disgraceful side that was rude and cold to everyone, making a bad example for his family. Or the flirty side that was quite nice to get alone with. Rumors were a hard thing to figure out.

Staring at his parents, he still didn't know how to respond. The one thing he has always done was please his parents. But this was the one time he wasn't sure if he could give them what they wanted.
"An arranged marriage...but I thought that the Johnson family only had a son?" His mother dropped her gaze to the floor as his father sighed. They both looked so very tired and saddened, like they were the ones being given the news and not Ryan himself. "We are aware of that. Regardless of the odd circumstances, we ask that you consider it. It could be a good move for our families to unite instead of feuding. We want peace with one another because this has just gone far enough Ryan. You understand, don't you?" He could understand what they meant, but he was still skeptical. There was no way that Damien would agree to this, nor remain faithful to the image of the marriage. If he were to be seen frolicking with a girl while under the marriage deal with Ryan, it would look bad on both families. And Ryan couldn't always consider remaining faithful to the agreement either. "If I agree to this, I want his parents and Damien himself to agree to my terms. They must work to keep their son's possible future affairs in order and more private, I do not expect him to remain faithful to the arrangement and agree to letting him have this if he can be discreet. I may not know them, but I am sure his family worked hard as well so I hope he will be careful for their sake. We don't need people finding out that we faked this marriage because he is seen frolicking with some girl. I will too keep to this term of course." His parents give a look of relief as they gazed at their son, before his father stood and rest his hand on Ryan's shoulder. As he looked up at his father, he felt more confident in his answer when he saw his face full of pride. "That is the answer I expect from the heir of our family. I am proud of you son and I will never forget your sacrifice."

                                                              ╚════════════════════════════════╝

Damien lifted his head when he heard someone knock on the door. He didn't answer, expecting the person to just go away and leave him be. He could hear the door open and instantly the male cringed, hoping it wasn't his parents. Sure enough, he heard his mother calling his name. Damien was sitting at his desk, writing and didn't like to be bothered when he was in his own world. He attempted to ignore his mother, hoping she would kind of leave like she usually did, however, it wasn't that way. He felt that she was just standing there, waiting for him to acknowledge her and he groaned out softly. He turned to look over at her, "May I help you, mother?" He let out.

She gave a sheepish smile and nodded,
"Your father and I would like to talk to you down in the dining room." She said. She was obviously nervous about something. It definitely caused red flags to be raised as Damien stared at her. The male sat there for a moment before giving a silent nod of his head. He watched as his mother exited his room, leaving his door cracked and he sighed. What did he do now? He figured it was something he had done to make them mad or upset. Although, as he thought about it, he hadn't done anything recently for them to be upset with him. He looked at his paper and placed his pen down silently on the desk before rising to his feet and heading downstairs to the dining room. He met up with his parents, who were both sitting at the table quietly and looking apologetic once they saw him. The male slowly sat down into the seat.

"What did I do now..?" Damien questioned his parents. He figured he might as well just ask and let them tell him already. Although they both looked hesitant to speak. The male sat there, bouncing his leg as he was getting slightly impatient. What were they waiting on? "Any day now would be nice." He scoffed slightly.

"Alright, alright. I get it." His father held up his hands in defense and then dropped them. "Alright, so we have quite a bit of news..." His father started. His mother was quiet while she sat there and just watched. His father explained the whole situation. Although hearing the word arranged marriage was not to his liking, he would have been alright with it... That was until he heard the name of the family. Damascus. Damien was silent for a moment as he was taking everything in and then he instantly frowned. "Wait, are you telling me that I am to be put into an arranged marriage with the eldest of the Damascus family..?" He questioned. "I thought you mentioned that the oldest was a son or did I just hear wrong?" He questioned, tilting his head slightly. His mother let out a sheepish laugh and folded her hands together on the table. "You... Heard correct, Damien." She admitted. Damien couldn't believe any of this. "That makes no sense, can you even do that?" He questioned.

                                                              His father nodded,
"Yes. We can. Our two families have been in this crazy little dispute for a long time now and we talked to the Damascus family already. They also agree that this would be a good idea to help settle this crazy little feud and finally have peace between out families." Damien just couldn't believe what he was hearing, this was just too much. He wanted to say no, but he couldn't say anything. For once, he was pretty darned speechless. He sat there, biting his lower lip. Finally he spoke, "This is just weird... Another man?" He frowned. "Am I expected to marry a man, really? You guys must be joking." He looked at his parents, seeing the looks on their face and then seeing them both shake their heads. He groaned out and shook his head. This was just too darned much.

Lying on his bed, Ryan stared at his ceiling, unsure as to whether he wanted to yell or hit something like he used to do when he was younger. After he spoke a little more with his parents about this, he was sent off to pack his bags while they went to call the Johnson's to arrange a meeting that night for dinner. They wanted to get the terms discussed and the meeting of the two males done by the end of the night so they could get started on this giant lie immediately.

What exactly was he supposed to do now? Yes, he was angry that he had to give up the life he had to someone he only met once. But his parents were sure that there is no other option to end the feud, and if it would make them proud...he would go through with it. The part that had seemed worse than the rest was the fact that he was being forced from his home because of all this. He would no longer lounge in this room, no longer listen to his music as he stared at this very ceiling. It was his home, and he was being told that he had leave it all for a marriage he wanted no part in. How was this fair? What would have happened if he had said no?

They said that him and Damien would be living together in the summer home of Damascus family that was conveniently enough for their parents, far away from both family estates. It was a nice large home that near the beach in another city. But, of everyone they could of married him off to, he couldn't understand why it had to Damien. Why another man, why someone that was so different from Ryan?

As he mulled this over, his parents finally called for him to come downstairs with his things, stating that the car was waiting for him outside to take load his things for after dinner, when he would be driven to his new home. His fiancé would be meeting them here to get everyone aquatinted and well versed in the rules, they had told him. Just the word "fiance" itself made him sigh in defeat. He would never know what it would be like to date, or to hold a girl in his arms and tell her he loved her...he would never fall in love. All because two families just could not coexist or settle their differences like normal families.

Several minutes later, after he had his things in tow and walked out of his room, he turned to look at it all one last time, before shutting the door and walking to the stairs. As he took each step, he could feel the situation sink in and couldn't help the dread he felt. He disliked Damien already, just because he didn't turn out to be a girl, but he felt just as bad for him as he did for himself. What was happening to them wasn't fair and there had to be someone that knew this.

After the talk with his parents, Damien was walking through the garden in the back of his house. He was obviously angry. He didn't know how to react, he just thought this whole thing was ridiculous. You cannot put two men, two straight men at that, in an arranged marriage. That was just rather awkward to be honest. How could Damien even talk about a situation like that? He can't go around and brag about his lovely male fiance, it was just too weird honestly.

Damien was being summoned by his mother to pack his things. He didn't want to honestly, he was just trying to push it aside. He hoped his parents would come to the realization that this whole thing was ridiculous and didn't need to happen. Although, things weren't coming to that. They were telling him to pack. They were going to meet his fiance's family and go over the agreements before they would be pushed off to live in a place of their own. How would the two of them deal with one another? Damien heard that Ryan's personality was mysterious and quiet while Damien was more the opposite and had no problem speaking his mind. Even if he were rude.

Damien eventually headed inside and up to his room, slowly but surely packing his things. He was getting more and more annoyed as time rolled on. He didn't want to meet Ryan, this whole thing was stupid. "Another man.." He scoffed to himself. Disgusting. Damien was straight, he loved women, not men! He shivered at the thought. The thought of the supposed wedding date. Does that mean he had to kiss another man?

Finally, Damien finished packing his things and pulled it all downstairs with him. His things were loaded into a car and his mother shooed him off to get himself in better shape. Damien went to his room and changed his clothing. He pulled on a pair of black pants and put on a dark red, long sleeved dress shirt. He left the first two buttons undone, showing off a little bit of his toned chest. He slipped on a pair of black shoes and made his way to the bathroom, fixing up his hair and made sure he smelled good before heading downstairs and loading into the car with his parents. The drive to the Damascus estate for dinner felt like it took forever. However, once the car came to a stop, he was really dreading to get out of the car.

He got out with his parents and they walked up to the door, his father giving a couple of firm knocks to let them know they were there. Damien was silent with an angered look on his face. There was no getting out of this he feared.

                                                                xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He was already well dressed and ready to go an hour before the arranged time of the dinner. But as it got closer to the time, things started setting in for Ryan and he started to pant. They tried to keep him from doing it, but he was close to having a panic attack and needed to feel calm again. As soon as the situation sunk in fully, Ryan panicked and dropped his cases before running back into the house and towards the indoor pool room; stripping off his clothes to his briefs before he jumped in and stayed under as long as he could. What else could he do? He wasn't good with situations like these that caused a lot of stress for him.

Eventually pulling up for air, the man gasps, his mother and father watching as he moves over to the edge of the pool and rests his head in his arms. He didn't want to do this...this wasn't right nor was it fair. How was he supposed to pretend to love someone he doesn't even know?! As a kid, Ryan was taught to be honest, not to play pretend. He sat there for what seemed like forever in the silence as his mother and father leaned down and rubbed his hair or his shoulder to calm him down. They said nothing however, not knowing what to say in that situation they were forcing him into he supposed. What would you say to someone that you were making live and become a pretend lover to a stranger?

When he managed to get his bearings again, they all heard the knock at the door and a servant came in to announce that their guests had arrived. This was it, there was no hiding after he accepted this already. He had to face the music that he composed, bathe in the water he set in the bath for himself.

Without a single word to his parents, Ryan pulled himself out of the water and started to walk throughout the hallway until he reached the door. His mother and father followed after, asking for him to not answer with such an appearance quietly. He just looked back at them and shook his head, telling them that they had no right to tell him how to behave after what they had asked of him. His mother could only nod before she walked away with his father and they were escorted to the dining hall.

With his usual emotionless expression and his damp hair in his face, Ryan opens the door. What he was graced with was to be expected. His fiance, and his future in-laws. Sighing softly, Ryan ran his fingers through his wet hair and moved out of the way for them to enter, a servant drying the floor behind him quickly.
"Forgive the appearance, I was under the impression there was time for a quick dip. You must be the Johnson family. Please come in, our head maid Lilly will lead you to the dining hall for the meal." After motioning for her to take care of it and giving Damien a pointed glance, Ryan turned back around and continued where he came from, picking up his abandoned clothes before telling his parents he would be in there shortly.

The door was opened by a servant and they were invited inside. His mother was trying to help primp up her son to make him look good, but Damien kept pushing her hand away and telling her to stop. She was acting a little ridiculous honestly. It was embarrassing that she was sitting there messing with his hair or trying to button up all the buttons on his shirt. It drove him nuts. He was a grown man and could make himself look good. He didn't need his mother messing with him to try and make him look good for his male companion. When she finally stopped he was simply relieved, she could be over-bearing herself sometimes.

Damien and his parents were escorted to the dining hall, however Damien's attention was brought to the opening door. Sure enough, he instantly frowned seeing his half naked 'fiance' standing there dripping wet. He rolled his golden brown eyes and shook his head. Great. At least Ryan had a pretty face, so maybe he could pretend to see him as a woman. The thought of it made the corners of Damien's mouth curl into a slight smirk. That would be golden, wouldn't it? To picture his supposed male companion as a woman just to make things a little more comfortable for himself. However, he noticed the glance that Ryan gave and instantly his smirk disappeared.

It actually irritated him the way he was looked at. He grumbled unhappily and his mother nudged him to stop. His mother put on a happy smile and instantly greeted Ryan's parents. Damien was silent while his parents were talking to Ryan's parents.

They were all to wait for Ryan obviously. Damien made very little talk with Ryan's parents. He was obviously unhappy with the situation, as his mother had stated and even apologized for his behavior. Hey, Damien was actually being pretty good considering how angry he was. He was wise not to make smart comments or get into an argument. He was just letting his parents go about and talk for him. He was just ready to go home, however, he knew it wouldn't be the case.

Which he knew wouldn't end well. For now, he'd let his parents enjoy themselves, however, he knew that Ryan would see the ugly side of him. He was going to keep it hidden from Ryan's parents and make it seem he was a little more well behaved than rumors had said about him.

When he eventually got his hair reasonably dry, a new pair of boxers and dry clothing, Ryan walked in through the doors of the dining hall, his parents already sitting nervously on their end of the table. He was followed by a few female servants that were quietly whispering to him details of the conversation the parents had so far so he was up to par with everything he had missed. They had wished him luck, pulled out his hair for him and bowed respectfully before leaving to return to their duties.

Sitting in the seat that was free to the right of his father, Ryan lightly cleared his throat. He knew that his mother and father probably already apologized for his behavior when opening the door, though he didn't see why they felt the need to. He was an adult that didn't need his parents making apologies for him. If he was sorry, he would do the apologizing himself. And even though he wasn't in the least bit sorry for doing as he pleased in his own home, Ryan knew that he wouldn't hear the end of it if he didn't say something.

It was all ridiculous really, what they were expected to accept for their parents. When his father asked him if he would take over the family name and do whatever necassary to keep the family going, he really hadn't expected him to mean in this way. Surely their parents realized that there would be no heirs for either family produced if their sons were being forced to marry one another. Unless they were proposing that this arrangement have an expiration date after some time? He really hoped that they were truly planning to end things with some dramatic scandal such as the two males realizing that they could not carry on together if they wanted to continue on their family names. Surely their plan was for the two to divorce eventually...right?

Though he was frowning on the inside, Ryan seemed pretty calm and emotionless on the outside, his gaze passing over his parents and fiance, before resting on the opposing parents. Giving an internal sigh, Ryan nods his head towards them and musters up the best charming and kind smile he can for them as he spoke with his usual soft spoken voice. It wasn't easy to mask his anger and frustration right now, but he was managing.
"I would like to express my apologies further to you both about before. Usually, I am more prepared and better dressed than that, but when I am in periods of high stress, I often like to swim to mellow myself out. As one would expect in this...unique situation, I am unable to feel or act less frazzled and more cordial. This really wasn't expected."

It couldn't have been expected, for either of them. They were both blind-sided by this stupid idea their parents cooked up. Glancing at his father, he waited for him to interject but watched as the man continued to look at his hands instead. He seemed to be at a loss for words. But what could you really grudge up in this situation that could make it any better? Sorry for us making you marry and pretend to love another man? Nothing could fix this. He was angry, scared, unsure and nervous as hell, but his face was expressionless and his body was as still as a statue as he waited on his father to say something, anything interesting at all! When there was nothing and the man seemed to be stuck in whatever daze he was in at the moment, Ryan turned back to them and gave another smile to the parents, obviously refusing to even look his fiance's way right now. "We do hope that you both enjoy the meal that is being prepared. We thought something simple was better fitting." After he says this, servants come in pushing carts that had silver dinner platters on them. They take one to each person and set the platter down in front of them before removing the lid and presenting the appetizer. "For the appetizer monsieur, the chef has prepared Canape Bristol, which is a type of hors d’œuvre. For your main course, the chef will be making a succulent Ratatouille with a steaming French Onion Soup to chase away the cold of this winter. And for dessert, you will be having strawberry crepes drizzled with milk and white chocolate. The chef hopes that you enjoy." To stop the servant from leaving, Ryan holds up his hand and looks towards the guests. His parents better be grateful that he was being so accommodating right now when all he wanted to do was toss these "guests" out and forget this ever happened. "None of you three are allergic to anything right? We don't want to feed you something you cannot eat."

Damien was silent while sitting at the dining table with his parents and Ryan's parents. Things were just awkward, this whole meeting was a joke. He didn't get why his parents would get such an idea to marry him to a male. Sure, a female he could understand, but his fiance was the same sex as him? It was just too weird. He watched as his parents were conversing with Ryan's parents, simply in his own state of mind at the moment. He just had too much to think about on his own to deal with this at the moment.

Although, things changed when he noticed that Ryan entered and was sitting next to his father. Damien's golden colored eyes instantly sat and stayed locked on Ryan. He was examing his fiance, just trying to picture him as a female to make himself feel better. He wouldn't be able to get used to the idea of marrying another man. The two were obviously different personalities and Damien could tell right off the rip that they weren't going to get along - not one bit.

The blonde scoffed quietly when Ryan began to apologize for his behavior. He acted better than Damien would have, that was for sure. If the Damascus family were coming to his place for dinner, things would not be going so smoothly. Damien would probably have given attitude seeing the other family at the door and probably would have bailed and disappeared for quite some time. This wasn't his home and he was not familiar with the surrounding area, so taking off was something that he couldn't exactly do here. He could see himself getting lost or in trouble with someone over something small or stupid. The blonde just stared at Ryan, not even caring if he was seen by his fiance. He had no shame.

Damien nodded his head in agreement, "That is very true. This was highly unexpected." He stated. He noticed that both set of parents were rather quiet from Ryan speaking. Nobody had anything to add and how could they? They were telling their eldest male heirs to marry one another in hopes to rekindle the feuding families. His parents thanked Ryan when he hoped they would enjoy the meal that was being prepared. Damien however just rolled his eyes. Ryan was pretending like he wasn't even there, he was intentionally avoiding eye contact with him too, it was awfully annoying to Damien. The male grunted slightly and shifted in his seat, he had a very unhappy look on his face and he was bouncing his right leg, trying to bite his tongue. He watched as servants came in, pushing carts and serving them. When Ryan asked if the three of them were allergic to anything he scoffed slightly, "Oh, so now you acknowledge that I exist?" He blurted out. "This whole time we've been sitting here you can't even make eye contact with me but you can with my parents. What, are you scared of me or something?" He questioned and instantly felt an elbow in his side and his mother whispering for him to stop. He rolled his golden eyes and groaned out, "No. None of us are allergic to anything. If we were I think we'd mention it." He stated.

As the other had given his opinion on the fact that Ryan was avoiding him and pretending he didn't exist, Ryan completely ignored him and turned to the servant who had announced the selection of food, asking if he could bring him a glass of water instead of wine since he was feeling a little dehydrated. The servant gives a nod with a small smile and leaves the room to fulfill the man's wish.

If he were to be honest with himself, he would say that he in fact wanted to give the other a piece of his mind, let him know that his existence was an insult to everything that Ryan had worked his entire life for. But, that wouldn't have been very mature of him which was what separated the two of them. Ryan was mature and a proper gentleman while the mess sitting in his usual chair was a disgrace. It was a wonder that his family hadn't disowned him yet.

Blinking Ryan stopped as he was going to take a bite of his appetizer, a small frown gracing his handsome features. Where exactly had that come from? He was distant and seemed arrogant to others at time, but he hadn't ever made such a snotty observation or think something so crude before. Sighing softly, Ryan turned to his fiance and finally met his gaze.
"If I gave you the impression that I was ignoring you, I am sorry. I was only trying to make sure your parents were comfortable. after all, they had to make such a difficult decision and even had to propose the idea. Yes, we could have done without this idea of theirs, but they are still our parents and deserve respect more than we do."

Damien only got more annoyed when he was ignored, so he wanted to play that game, huh? Damien looked down at the appetizer and he picked up his fork. He was poking and prodding at it, as if examining it like it were poisoned. His golden eyes staring down at the food. He wanted to leave so badly, however, after their dinner, the two of them were going to be rushed off to go live with one another. Damien knew that wouldn't end well for either of them. They'd probably kill one another or at least fight it out some whether it was verbal or physical. Damien shifted his attention when he heard speaking and finally they made eye contact.

Damien frowned listening to what Ryan had to say and instantly shook his head. He let go of his fork, which made a loud 'c***k' sound when it hit the plate. He scoffed and shook his head. "Yeah, I completely disagree with that statement, Ryan." He spat out his fiance's name with disgust. "Sure, we could go without this horrible idea and continue on with our own lives, hardly having to deal with each other. No, instead, our parents speak with one another behind our very backs and come up with this absurd idea of marrying off their two male heirs. Male, mind you." He stated and let out a forced laugh. "In my opinion, none of them deserve any sort of respect. Instead, I feel a disdain against every person in here. Including you." He ignored his mother's attempts at getting him to stop talking.

"Sure, we can stand in front of whomever and say our 'I dos' but I definitely and won't ever love someone the same gender of me. Let alone someone like you. Someone who is complete opposite of me and probably won't ever be able to keep me happy." He shook his head. He was no longer hungry, he was just flat out angry and was letting out all his frustrations in front of all of them.

                                                                      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Lets the other vent as his gaze moved to his food, the servant setting he glass down onto the table for him before Ryan quietly thanked him and lifted the glass to drink the liquid. Instead of drinking it slowly, he was drinking it rather quickly, finishing the water in seconds. It was the anxiety from dealing with this idiot that was getting to him. He could feel his anger and frustration from being in this situation making him panic as he set the glass down, letting the sound ring through the room.

Taking a deep breath in and out, Ryan lifts his hand and turns up the classical music on his player a little to help him find some peace of mind before he turns to Damien once again. The plain disrespect to his own parents rather annoyed Ryan, and this was obvious by the expression he gave him. His glare was cold and although didn't give a snarl to accompany it, his expression held malice.
"I want to make something very clear here. As long as you are in this property or any property of the Damascus family, you will show nothing but respect for your elders or you will be thrown out, whether you live there or not. You may be angry with your parents, but they are the people who gave life to you. And besides, you weren't forced into this arrangement. There was a choice to reject it and you didn't. Do not act like you are such a victim when you chose this path instead of taking the way you wanted. As long as you agree to this arrangement, keep your mouth shut and your complaints to yourself. No one cares enough to listen."

After saying this, Ryan stands from his chair and pushes it back underneath the table, turning towards a servant to ask them to take his meal to the usual place before he bowed his head to Damien's parents. "My apologies for my indiscretion and for leaving during the meal. But I am afraid I have put up with as much I can handle for right now. Please enjoy the meal and I hope we are able to meet again on better terms."

Even though his father urged him to sit back down, Ryan walked out of the room quietly and went to the only room he knew he could relax and be comfortable in. The pool. His anxiety was at max and it took all his control to not have an attack in that very room. He didn't like when people yelled at him or spoke down to him like that, it put his nerves on edge too much and made him feel like his only option was to walk away.
