Since the day he was born, he had been preened and cooed at. He was precious compared to his three brothers and his lone sister. And even when three more children had been birthed -- two sisters and a brother -- he remained a favorite of his mother and his aunt. He'd had no wants, no desires, except to remain the center of attention that he had always been. Indeed he may not have ever left that haven if he hadn't felt a desperate need to fulfill a speck of wonder that had begun to plague him one morning as he awoke to silence.
In that absence, he'd found himself ruminating on what more there was to life. To his life. There was nothing in his naming or personality that led him to an answer. The time to dwell was short as his family awoke and took to what had always been the normal. He was Fawn; he was to be fawned over. An appropriate thought to be sure. However the door of what if had opened and now refused to shut. So it was that he arose and ventured out to see what was beyond this facet of life.
