When they'd told him he had haunted house duty today, this really hadn't been what he'd had in mind. Granted, having lived through the apocalypse, his basis for frightening things had risen above old, creepy buildings. He'd lived in a university without electricity, with zombies wondering around outside the grounds for close to a month. This was nothing to that, right?
~Right.~
Liam frowned at his weapon's interjection, ignoring him as he made his way down a hall with warped and creaking floorboards. They were so loud, he almost missed the sound of a girl calling out somewhere deeper within the house.
"Hello?" He paused to listen, senses straining.

Maggie's features lit up, despite her baggy eyes and rather muted complexion. Another being was here with her. Perhaps they knew this wing better than she did? At the least, they could be lost together.
She rounded the corner, timidly tiptoeing towards the male. She had very little experience with the opposite sex, and her traitorous heart pitter pattered nervously.
"Oh jeepers creepers. I'm so glad to see someone else!" She giggled nervously, slowing as she got closer. She fiddled with the bottles in her arms, the liquid sloshing within, all different colours.
"This is still Amity, right? I'm so lost, and I'm late for class." She smiled bashfully, tucking a thick lock of hair behind her ear. Her familiar, the black cat, slinked cooly under her shadow.

Quote: Rolling a 3: ALL DAMAGE HAS NO MODIFIER (ie: you don't need to subtract -6 ). You feel something brush against you, unsettling as it literally envelops you in a blanket of cold. You feel stronger but more distant, as if the battle around you is happening to someone else...
"Uh..." He blinked back at her as she came into view, baby blues widening as he took in the hat, the bottles in her arms, and the cat that was slinking around her ankles, ducking in and out from beneath her long skirts. Not human.
~No, no human. What are you going to do?~
I...ah. I don't know.
~A little on the disappointing side, aren't you?~
His fingers twitched at his sides, and then, with a flash of blue from the runes, the tonfa appeared in his hands. "This isn't amity." She's the same as the things from Delta. Just a creature. It felt like he wasn't quite in control. Like he was watching everything from the sidelines. Not just her, but himself as well. It was....disconcerting.
Creepy.

A cold chill ran down her spine, stopping misstep as the man pulled a weapon out of nowhere. "Not.. in Amity?" Her smile faded, big black eyes wideneing with confusion.
"I-I'm so sorry, I must be trespassing.." She backed up a step, nearly tripping on her cat. "I didn't mean to! I'm lost!" Would she get in trouble? Arrested? Killed? She didn't want to die today!
Doom hissed at the man from beneath Maggie's skirts. "Stay away from her." He growled, his back arching and ready to defend his witch.
"No, no! No fighting, it's... it's all a mistake..." Her face began to sweat, and a bottle dropped from her trembling hands, bouncing once before exploding in a puff of purple smoke at the hunter's feet. The shock of it made Maggie squeak in surprise. Yet, somehow, the nervous air she'd had seemed to drop away. She was apart from herself, and decisions came easier. She wasn't afraid anymore.

The cat hissing at him surprised him. He wasn't entirely sure why, it wasn't as if he didn't have a ghost whispering in his brain, but seeing the cat yell at him seemed entirely odd.
Not that that he had to worry about it for more than a moment. Something fell from the girl's hands, a bottle, and it bounced once, then smashed in a cloud of purple smoke at his feet. Purple smoke that seemed to burn and eat away at his insides when he inhaled it. It had him doubling over into a coughing fit, face darkening as he fought to breath. It hurts!
When it had subsided enough for him to draw a gasping breath, he'd lifted his head to glare down the hall at her, lips drawing back in a fearful, almost feral snarl.
Another couple of breaths, then he was streaking forward with weapons raised. Shadow cat be damned, he wasn't going to let the little witch poison him again!

Maggie yelped as the tonfa clipped her arm, momentarily bringing her back to her own senses. It faded soon, as that auto-pilot sensation once again engulfed her. Doom landed on his feet after falling away from the hunter, growling in that way aggressive cats did as he witnessed, felt, Maggie getting hit.
He slunk back into her shadow to regroup, as Maggie mumbled a list of incantations she'd learned in class. She got them wrong at first, making her globe of potion do little at all. In frustration she threw it anyway, square into the man's chest, where it burst and bubbled painfully, the glass more so than the liquid within.

Every hit she landed seemed to drag him back from the brink, and for flickers of seconds his thoughts seemed to be his own, but they were short lived moments, fleeting, and gone again as quickly as they'd come. She'd say something, or do something, that reminded him of what she was, and that need to protect himself--to eliminate the threat--returned full force.
The cat that had lunged at him had retreated, sinking back into her shadow(and wasn't that freaky?), but he wasn't her only means of attack. The glass globe exploded against his chest, glass shredding at his shield and the potion within sizzling against it. It made him yelp, startled, and he brushed at the front of his shirt, though only managed to hurt himself more in the process.
"Little witch!" It came out almost strangled. A seamless, cracked blend of fear and rage. Rushing at her again, he brought the tonfa up, one after the other, to bring them smashing down upon her shoulders.

And then she was gone. Liam, out of breath, stood in puzzled silence for a moment, weapons still up and at the ready, as if he were expecting the witch to reform and attack him again. When she didn't, when it became clear she was indeed gone, his arms lowered to his sides.
It was fading, that near blinding urge to win. Whatever it had been, it wasn't as strong now, and the determination, the brief delight over having won, faded with it.
What had started as a victorious rush was quickly morphing into something far less sure of itself. What had he just done? She hadn't been a zombie. She hadn't been a mutant. He didn't know what exactly she'd been, but now, in hindsight, she didn't seem all that scary.
Frowning, he reached up for the pendent around his neck. He just wanted to go home.
