The Pattern is woven of many gilded threads. This is the tale of two such threads and the multitude of threads that surrounded them. The image they wove impressed into the face of time, their story is a tale of woes, love and ages gone.

> Masrin City
Also known as the Metropolis of Masrin, Masrin City is actually comprised of twelve different smaller cities. While it is subject to the rule of the King, the immediate rulers of the city are known as the Council of Twelve. Each Baron or Baroness rules over a specific city and as a whole they rule the metropolis.

Masrin is known for it's incredible industry, but mostly it's claim to fame is it's Trinity of Guilds. The Warrior's Guild for weapon masters. The Mage's guild for those who are trained in the arcane arts. And the Scholar's guild for those who pursue a more intellectual or inventive craft. Thusly the city, unlike smaller towns, are more open to mages and actually offer them employment, increasing the city's prosperity and wealth. While everything appears smooth on the surface, as with any city, there are dark under currents at play in Masrin City.

> Mantho
A kingdom fallen some twenty plus years ago to the Demonkin from across the ocean. The rising Dark Waters have overtaken it and along with the Demonkin still residing there have made it a land not to be ventured into. The lone survivor of the nobility in the city being Prince Neon Alcandor.

> Xomaci Mountain Village
A small village at the base of the Xomaci Mountains. Like many smaller villages, they are not open to mages. Perhaps even more so closed off due to their seclusion from the rest of society sans peddlers that make their way through harking wares.

    Neon Alcandor

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Role/Position: Main Character // Rank 4 Warrior
Age: 26
Weight: 213 lbs
Height: 6'4"
Appearance: Neon is tall and very well built from years and years of training. He has long black locks that tend to curl more after wet, but is naturally wavy. He keeps this tied up often to keep it out of his face and prevent it from being an inconvenience. He also keeps a goatee most of the time, though sometimes it turns into an unkempt start of a beard. He generally leaves it as a scraggly goatee, but sometimes Kaila takes it upon herself to trim it up. (Pictured.) Neon isn't fond of this and has allowed her to do this less in recent years. Let her pout as much as she wants. Hair isn't sparse on his body by any means of the imagination especially in the armpit and chest region, but he equally isn't a shag carpet. Mid-chest with a trail leading down the abdomen is about the extent of it. Lower back, etc. Neon had to draw the line with grooming somewhere. His eyes are a rich brown with flecks of hazel that can look almost golden in particular lighting. Neon has strangely sharp canines, but not supernaturally so. Tends to wear mostly black and is very strict about maintaining uniform, but in his own time he has a pretty easy going look about him.
Personality: Neon tends to be very stoic. He's a fun loving guy, don't get me wrong, but he just doesn't have the time for it most of the time. It's a relief when he can forget himself and have fun, but he's generally on missions and lately he's been reminding himself of the fate of his kingdom and though that was all so long ago, he can't help but feel the weight on his shoulders. This leads him to seem sour a lot, but he's generally rather nice. He'd almost be considered friendly if he could just spare the time. Due to not interacting with people very much, he's a little socially awkward, though he doesn't feel it himself. He bottles up his negative emotions rather well, though anger slips through from time to time, but never sadness, he feels it, but holds it in well. (Though, at times, he channels this into more anger.)
History: Neon Alcandor was born to the noble Alcandor family of the Manthonian Kingdom which bordered the Luccini Ocean, also known as the Dark Waters due to the wicked creatures that come from across the sea. The kingdom fell to these creatures when Neon was only six years old, his parents the King and Queen dying defending their land from surprise invaders. The city fell and not a living noble soul remained alive from the city except for Neon. Waters rose and wild beast made the ravaged city their home, seemingly content at just that. Neon was rushed away with the fleeing refugees to a relative's place in the metropolis of Masrin, inherited sword in hand the only thing he had to remind him of his parents. He had been trained with the sword since he was old enough to walk, but from that point on, he was trained even harder. Masrin, being made up of twelve cities, has twelve different Barons and Baronesses that rule over each and make up The Council of Twelve that collectively rules over Masrin as a whole. Masrin with it's industry and plethora of work rivals even Morhagen, the capitol where King Perceus resides. The city puts a lot of it's success on the shoulders of the Trinity of Guilds. The Warrior's Guild with it's weapons specialists. The Mage's Guild with it's innovators in the arcane arts. And the Scholar's Guild with it's cornucopia of knowledge and mechanical creations. Each guild has it's stages. Neon was accepted as a novice of the Warrior's Guild at the age of eleven, the youngest ever accepted, though not unheard of. There had been others join barely into their teens. The guilds were a good way to earn a living if you had a knack for any of the three departments. But, what was unheard of was him passing the test to become a 1 Star at the age of thirteen. The amount of stars you have aligns with how high of missions you can partake in. Novices can accept 0 Star missions like finding lost pets and other menial tasks, and most are content with this. 1 Star missions require considerable combat ability and include missions like tracking down thieves and bandits or hunting down minor wild beasts. The Stars went up to 5 Star, but there were so few members of that rank, it was practically unheard of to reach, most settling for only 4 Star. By the age of seventeen he was a 4 Star, a climb unheard of and where Neon remained. The bulk of the guild members were 2 and 3 Stars, the elite were 4 Stars and legendary were 5 Stars. In the Warrior's Guild, there was currently only one 5 Star, though the Mage's guild had three and the Scholar's Guild had a circle of twelve who seemed to think that they should rule Masrin instead of the council. In the early years of his life, Neon garnered a lot of attention, most saying he would become the next 5 Star, but when it became clear that he would not, attention started to fade. But not after two individuals had tied themselves to him. The first of whom was his primary employer and sponsor, Baroness Shahar. She mostly liked to collect trinkets and urged him to become a 5 Star and in recent years was growing more and more tired of him as he grew more and more jaded about restoring his home land, his years getting on. They had a complex relationship and even Neon wasn't sure what she entirely wanted. The next was another girl who had rode the wave fleeing from his home kingdom, Kaila Encarta, a 4 Star of the Mage's Guild. She climbed the ranks later and slower than Neon had, but she made it a goal of hers to tie herself to Neon and she had effectively, the shared interest in restoring their land to it's former glory did that if nothing else did. Neon's focus has shifted in just this past year and he seems to be trying harder than ever, and driving himself in the ground doing it. He truly needs someone to save him from himself.

    Kaila Encarta

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Role/Position: Neon's Friend & Accomplice / Rank 4 Mage

Age: 25

Weight: 120 lbs

Height: 5'6"

Appearance: Tends to change her appearance a lot, especially in regards to her hair. Her fashion isn't tied down to one particular style, but she does tend to wear dresses or robes to guild sanctioned events. She generally wears outfits that are rather revealing, if not also equally casual in appearance.

Personality: Very bubbly and somewhat flighty. Kaila likes to be the center of attention and is very flourishing with her magic because of this. She has a kind heart, if not just a bit selfish at times.

History: Kaila was born to a minor branch of the Encarta family in the Mantho kingdom. Just a bit younger than Neon himself, they never knew of each other or met until years later when she approached him after reaching Rank 4 Mage at the age of 23. Being about to turn 26, they've been companions for nearly 3 years now. She has agreed to help him retake their homeland, but in reality she has no idea how she's to accomplish this. At times it seems there's more to her than first meets the eye. Other times, it seems she's rather dull.

    Adali Shahar

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Role/Position: Neon's Benefactor / Baroness of Durga

Age: 47

Weight: 103 lbs

Height: 5'8"

Appearance: Adali seems to be fading away, she is so thin and lanky. The woman looks more and more unhealthy every time eyes are laid upon her. She never wears brighter colors than dull reds and yellows and browns. She mostly favors browns and blacks, it seems. She is very particular about always wearing modest dresses and always keeping her hands covered, though she also appears to like her accessories.

Personality: Very dry and emotionless. Even in her pushing of Neon reaching Rank 5, she is very detached. Yet, even in her detachment she has a powerful and commanding presence akin to the rest of the Council of Twelve. Neon was rather fond of her apathetic personality and accepted support from her heavily because of this. And because if he aligned himself with one area, it would lessen the pulling he had been feeling from other sources.

History: Adali's past is shrouded in mystery, seeming to have come into Masrin from nowhere and she rose in political power rather quickly, serving on committees of all kinds in Durga until she became the Baroness that represented the whole of the Durga Subsect. The Durga Subsect being the poorest of the twelve, Adali did her best to raise the standards and did a rather fine job. In just a few years after being raised Baroness, the amount of thefts and murders and rapes went down drastically. She was not able to completely suppress them, not being a miracle worker, but she did a fine job. In the later years of her representation, there had been significant decline. She seemed to have lost her focus on keeping the subsect in good condition, probably focusing on keeping herself in good condition. Or at least trying to and failing by the looks of things. Many of the missions she sends Neon on are either to deal with criminals in the Durga subsect or to deal with missions of great importance when they popped up. Large ransoms and the like, as she got a portion of the bounty.

    Hendrik Barlow

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Role/Position: Neon's Superior / Rank 5 Warrior & Weapons Master

Age: 56

Weight: 219 lbs

Height: 5'11"

Appearance: Hendrik has kept himself in extremely good shape for his age, still being able to hold the rank of Weapons Master and hold the acclaim of being the only Rank 5 member of the Warrior's Guild for the past 29 years. He sports short white hair and a short white goatee and generally always wears his guild coat and armor almost as if he expects an attack at any time.

Personality: He seems friendly, but Neon can't really be sure. He stays distant from most people, but seems friendly enough. He always seems tact and like he is only as friendly as necessary and his heart wasn't really in it.

History: No one really knows much about Hendrik and his life before the Warrior's Guild. His claim to fame was his quick rising in the ranks all the way to Rank 5. Neon is often referred to as the 'Next Hendrik Barlow', but the comment has lessened in recent years due to his pause in climbing the ranks and completing of the highest level missions. Hendrik used to be the fire beneath Neon's butt, but lately he questions even if reaching Rank 5 was worth the effort, watching his superior.

((Ohh thanks for your hard work! I will post an editted profile of Vah (because I was half asleep when I sent mine yesterday D smile and Nino and Natalie's picture and post sometime tomorrow unless you want to go first.))

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Name: Vah Eondice

Age: 24

Weight: 145 lbs

Height: 5'5

Appearance: Skilled with charms and magic and being a particularly picky and easily bored person, Vah’s appearance is always changing. If he wanted to come to work with green or rainbow hair, the most he would get was a scolding for looking unprofessional. Able to change his hair color and length as well as his eye color with a simple incantation, Vah has already come to work with hair and eyes of every color of the rainbow…including the rainbow itself. Only a good week ago, his hair was a plain brown (and only because there was a meeting in the guild). Clearly, the simple, human, normal person color of hair and eyes just didn’t seem to sit right with Vah. His hair is currently smoky black with touches of sea green. His eyes retain their old brown color though. He’s thinking of turning them oil slick rainbow again.
With bits of demonic blood in his maternal side, far far (FAR) into his ancestry, the only signs of this giftCURSE, were his ruby red eyes, naturally silver hair, and far superior magical capabilities and power than the average human magician in the guild. With every one of these traits covered, you could hardly tell that he’s anything but the eccentric fellow he is.
Small for his age, he comes out to be 5 foot 5 (please don’t mention his height to him D: He hates that!) and weights in at 145 pounds. Not as buff as Nino likes a man, Vah has no problem with his physical appearance. No mage needed to be as big and tall and muscular as those guys over at the –ahem- warriors guild. Bulit like a cross between a swimmer and a dancer, he is just as fit as any other (not warrior) “mercenary” who does or has once participated in any sort of assassination requests or missions. He’s fit “enough” as he puts it. There’s no reason for a mage to be in the front lines anyways.
Vah is incredibly fussy about hair though. It doesn’t matter what kind of hair. Pubes? Armpit? Stache? Stomach…back….legs…arms….top of head…you name it! He likes to be as “smooth as possible and even smoother than the usual typical…ya know?” It’s probably another influence off of Nino, but no one mentions anything in the office. Hair? He spends a good hour in the morning (after brushing) just braiding and rebraiding and unbraiding and rebraiding because they just aren’t up to par as the ones Nino does for him. Vah isn’t even so much as to worry about hairstyle (just the one in the picture) but if that’s the case, he better make sure his hair turns out bomb!
One casual days, he wears a simple light coat and just loose enough pants as he strolls through market place. Colors vary, but he likes darker fabric. On work days, it’s the typical mage’s cloak and the tunic with the mage guild’s insignia on it. Pants are slightly tighter than the average mage is used to simply because the mage guild includes an alchemy tower and someone one set themselves on fire because their loose clothing touched a bit of potion off the table. We can all blame him for suffocating pants. For scars, he has nicks here and there on his body.

Personality: His mood swings on the dime. If he’s cheery one moment, it’s possible he will be a growling cat monster the next. Most of the time, if it’s relatively sunny outside, he’s in a pretty darn good mood and nothing happens. He hates getting wet so you can only guess what happens when it starts to rain quite heavily. Luckily, as moody as he gets, his bad mood usually only lasts a few hours and isn’t as drastic and angry as the mage guild’s captains, whose anger could only be described as “Rage three specks from destroying the entire tower.” There is a joke that goes around that if it’s cloudy outside, expect Vah to be a spiting moody, grumpy, don’t talk to me person and if it’s rainbows and unicorn, pick your order out cause everyone in the same office as he is is getting treated to lunch. He’s more of a cheery person and of course his fashion senses, thanks to Nino, is the more known traits of him. He doesn’t seem to understand “grown up” fun though. So if he every invites you to “fun day out with him”, unless you want to end up in the local bookstore or magic item store, don’t accept. There’s no booze around waiting for you. There is one sure fire way to piss him off and it’s asking him about his history or past, which, despite his age, he still remembers much of the treatment thrown at him.

History:His is born native of the secluded village of the Xomaci village (or tribe as most of the outside world deems them). Living at the base of Xomaci Mountain past another medium sized hill, Xomaci village is clamped between a mountain and hill. They live at the base of the mountains, secluded from the world save for a few outside contacts every now and random thens (such as Lal’s ancestors happening to find the village to settle in). Nowadays, outside of adventurers, there are no visitors and even merchants do not pass by. They have no access to the modern world outside the mountains and though they do move, it is only to rotate around the base of the mountain when game moves or when the soil is no longer fertile and needs time to recover. Magic is unheard of outside the town shaman. If you had magic it either meant you had the gift of vision and healing (and only through natural means like being born with the ability to already recognize herbs) or it meant you were the child of the lava gods, the demons of the mountain. You were tainted and parents of ill born children like so only have two options; to have the children killed or to abandon them. Magic was witchcraft and unless you had the gift of being a shaman, you were of against mother nature’s wishes.

Men spent their days training, looking for game, or teaching their young sons to grow up as respectable warriors as they are. Some farmed, the heavier tools to sow, but much of that was left to the women. The women cooked and cleaned, tended the young and when they were not tending the gardens or farms, hunted the forests for any wild edible fruits and mushrooms. The children played in their free times, dreams to be as amazing as their fathers and mothers. They would work as soon as they could possibly do so, but kids were kids and play time was needed. The older siblings would often teach their toddler younger siblings how to fight or clean as well.

Most of the warriors fought on horses and hunted for bison or deer. Their weapons made of stone with any sort of metal being too scarce to find. Axes, short swords (more like longer knives) and polearms were made from hand and men hunted from early morning to late afternoon while some others went to fish in the mountain rivers.

>>>
As an infant, Vah showed no signs of magic. Lal Homra, his mother, was a far descendant from a woman adventurer who landed in Xomaci and eventually settled in. That woman, herself, was far descendant of a man who was a demon. Every few generations, a child would show traits of their hidden blood lineage; magic, manipulation of elements, hair color, eyes, and the sort. During the time that man was alive, even through acceptance of magic, most were not keen of demons though there is hardly any sort of this same stigma outside of personal vendetta.

Vah’s father was no village chief but he was a giant man who was well known for his aim and being one of the best huntsman in the village, on par or even more so than the village chief. Before Vah, there were two older brothers as well as a miscarried sister before the two as well. The two older siblings had no traits of demonic blood in them. Vah was built to tackle the wilderness as well as wild and dangerous game. He was able to behead a bison with “one fell swoop” of his axe. His arrows hit their marks each time. The boys were famed for being young prodigies following their father’s footsteps.

Lal had heard from her grandmother, and her grandmother in turn (on and on) about the stories of the demonic ancestor of theirs. It was a secret well hid but Lal, unlike her grandmother, never heeded those stories. Grandma Mia was the village storyteller (by chance) and it was just another horror story, though she found it weird that Mia never told this particular tale to any other kids. Lal was a gentle woman of great wisdom and was always forgiving. She showed no signs of the traits and never cared for the crazy stories her grandmother told. Instead she fancied her time to picking herbs.

Much of his infancy days were normal. Vah babbled words that any other baby babbled. He walked or crawled and was just as curious as any other baby. Infancy past and at the age of 2, his brothers played games with him to shape him to be a warrior himself. Vah never thought of his training outside of its usual playful nature. “Throw the rock through that hoop. What about that smaller more far away hoop? That one? Can you beat big brother in a race? Can you hand fish? Do you want to ride Nessy today again? It takes more than a day to learn to ride a horse…”

It wasn’t until he hit three when one day, when Lal was cooking in an open flame, that the flames roared and flickered back and forth. With the houses made of wood and the doors only as a simple thick leather hide curtain, Lal wrote it off as the wind. She refused to believe her grandmother and that her child was the lava monsters that people talked about. It was only a coincidence. However, these “coincidences” continued. Flames spit fire, and fires started when there was nothing to start them nearby. Water froze and fish ran away. The leaves grew thick in forests or started to dance with no wind nearby. It rained when he cried and there were even quakes. It didn’t take long for anyone to catch on. Stones were hurled along with insults and the amazing warrior family was cold shouldered and ignored. He was given 24 hours of a life to be decided upon the hands of his parents. Either the child died, and the village offered to do the dirty work themselves, or the parents can do so in the privacy of the woods, or the child was to be outcasted. Within those 24 hours, both Lal and Vah disappeared from the village, though Lal returned soon, after a good few full moons. She had journeyed far west, the place where Mia had often spoke fondly of (as if she herself had been there), where she left the child at the first door she came to.

Initially, it was an old couple who had stumbled upon the little child who looked starved and without a mother. However, they were unable to care for the child as for their age and they passed the role of caretaker to their daughter Natalie, who also had no time for a child as she was constantly working. He was a good boy, fussy, missing his mother. He couldn’t understand why she said that he was to stay with this family but it was best for him and best for mother and that if he ever wanted to see her again, he had to grow big and strong and journey east until he hit a village between a hill and mountain. He didn’t start processing half of what happened until he was a teen in which by then he was a rowdy kid more attached to Nino than anyone else.

Nino was the ultimate caretaker for the 4 year old after Natalie saw his particularly interesting habit of starting “bad s**t everywhere he went” including the family dog’s leg freezing in ice and the best bursting into flames. Masrin was accustom to magic, no big deal, just find the kid a teacher. Nino happened to be that teacher and though her time was always with the guild, it was only a matter of “Can bring your kid to work day be everyday?” Nino took the child to work in the alchemy tower everyday where she put the best of her teaching skills to work. Though there were no particularly strict labor laws (there were still farming slaves everywhere), it came down to Vah just being another annoying brat who had a knack for knocking potions off the tables. Nino was a skilled 3 star mage skilled in potions and charms as well as the floor manager for her floor or the 30 floored alchemy tower. Nobody dared give a sneer, but you could tell nobody was pleased with a brat running around. He worked on whatever Nino told him to do so and at the age of 12, he (finally) was (legally) allowed to work starting as a 0 star mage. He climbed his way up in a scary pace. He was skiled and more dangerous than the rest of the kids in his class. He became a 1 star only a few months in (and nobody knows why he wasn’t one from the beginning). He easily came to be a 3 star, but refusing to continue kill-jobs, he was content as Nino’s primary apprentice and assistant. If he ever reconsidered, there were plenty of 4 star applications to go around…

Mornings were never typical to Vah. He'd wake up at 5 am sharp to the wailing of his neighbor's newborn baby or Old Jess's pet rooster OR he wouldn't wake up to his own bed at all, having fallen asleep at his desk at work. The only thing normal about any of these three were that he would have a decent breakfast and that his mood roulette would restart. There would be a shower and more work. Depending on where he woke up, it either meant heading to work or detouring back to his apartment for a shower and a fresh change of a uniform before heading back…with breakfast as well. It was a great joke for people to have to shake him up, but after the one time where he had worked overnight (and you couldn’t blame him for his mood afterwards) he accidently shattered a beaker (across the room), no one dared make a snicker at his direction.

This morning was a rare fortune. No crying babe, no screaming rooster and he certainly woke up in the comfort of his bed. He was ready to settle into the comfort and hugs of his bed and blankets when Vah’s eyes snapped open. No crying, rooster, nor hard book under him had woken him up this morning. Glancing across the room of his two room apartment, he panicked as the smaller handle laid on top of the 9 and the longer handle having just landed on the 10. He was late (and by the Priestess of the Tower was he LATE). Hopping out of his bed, Vah didn’t make half an attempt to make his bed more presentable the way he did on most days. He usually left it folded to one corner so that if he brought a friend over, at least his bed was acceptable. But tardiness does something to the brain including skipping breakfast (in exchange for a shower), not fixing the bed and damn near forgetting his uniform AND forgetting to lock the door on his way out. He was going to get a scolding from Nino and a good snicker from the older alchemists.

By the time he finally arrived, it was already closer to 11 and he figured it was better to have called in sounding dead and sick than waltzing in NOW…merely 6 hours from his end of shift, but he already called in sounding half dead and sick last time and it didn’t catch on. Nino was smarter than he’d anticipated and growing up with her as his primary babysitter meant that she knew pretty much all his shits and giggles, including finding and confiscating his “Fake pox potion” and “Skin as green and pale as a week dead man” potion. No doubt she was going to see right threw any sort of BS calls in. Not to mention, his family mail bird wasn't particularly the brightest bird in the neighborhood………I didn’t feed Tipper… he grudgingly thought as he swung open the mage guild’s front door. The receptionist, Amy Knights, was built like a tank and fit enough to work her family trade of being, well, a knight! Yet she sat here looking like the world’s most intimidating security guard with a pound of makeup splattered on her face. She looked like what he’d imagine it would look if he painted a lumpy rock with face powder and lipstick, but he’d never admit that, not if he wanted to live at least.

Vah dodged Amy’s questioning look with an exhausted smile before sprinting up the stairs and trying to catch his breath before opening the door to a couple of faces, one of whom was Nino. She didn’t look particularly displeased, but she didn’t look happy either. “Err….Good morning?” Vah suggested.

ooo Neon could be found where he always could be found. Out in the practice yards sparring lightly with his fellow guild members. (Lightly for other Rank 4 Warriors, at least.) Swords colliding, the ring of metal echoed throughout the courtyard. Sweat dripped from Neon's emotionless face as he sparred, flowing through the motions, his body reacted almost without thinking at this point. Wisps of hair loosened themselves from Neon's sloppily tied back hair. Jumping back four steps from a strike, his opponent did the same, a sign of taking a break from battle. The blonde-haired copper-skinned fellow in front of him went by the name Alasdair Mara. Neon jammed his sword into the ground, obviously frustrated. "What's the point?" he murmured to himself, falling down to the ground onto his rear, panting heavily. Adjusting his eye patch, Alasdair approached equally out of breath. "You'll find a way." Alasdair offered reassuringly. Neon shrugged with apathy, but his clenched fist spoke of bottled up anger and frustration at his lack of growth. He was one of the finest swordsmen there were, but that wasn't enough to retake a city run over by the Dark Waters and their inhabitants. Darkness had called his birthplace home and those who ventured to it's streets never returned. Twice now Neon had ventured to the outskirts of Mantho, and twice he had nearly lost his life to unseen forces. Once he had attempted when he much younger, but the second time had been far more recent and still the attempt was in vain. Clutching at his side instinctively, Neon sat up. 'Thanks, Al." Neon offered half heartedly. He truly believed his friend meant it, but it was hard for him to make himself believe it. "I'm going to take a walk and get some fresh air. Clear my head." Before Alasdair could get a word in edge wise he was on his feet and walk out of the courtyard. Neon raised a friendly hand to his friend as he walked away, Al calling after him to take care.

ooo Sheathing his sword, Neon didn't seem to be able to take his hand away from the blade. He could focus heavily when he trained, especially when he could just naturally let himself flow through the forms, but right now he needed to clear his head. To think about something else other than the perceivably unsurmountable task at hand. Strolling through the city, he peered into shop windows, desperately trying to pry his mind away from the dark topic at hand. Sighing deeply, he wished Kaila was with him. She always seemed to be able to take his mind off of things. She was a very in the now type of person and it was hard to keep a frown on when she was around. At least for Neon, it was. But, she had a guild sanctioned event she was attending. She was always keen on attending those even if it seemed as boring as a bag of dirt. Heck. The bag of dirt might be more entertaining than some of the events she had dragged him to as her date. He nearly shuddered at the thought. He also nearly felt like smiling. How did the woman do it? She didn't even have to be present, it seemed. Allowing himself a small chuckle, Neon shook his head.

ooo It was at this moment that his good mood nearly came crashing down. His heart stopped as he saw his benefactor, Baroness Shahar strolling down the street. She was likely heading for the training grounds where he should still be at this moment. Really not wanting to hear another one of her lectures or, worse, to be requested to take on one of her stupid missions she thought would bring him acclaim and thusly garner her more power, Neon's eyes began looking for a way of escape. The crowd and her lack of focus on the people around her may have saved his hide for the moment, but every step she drew nearer was one step closer to having his ear chewed off for an hour and a half. His height made him stick out like a sore thumb. Paying zero attention to the shop he chose, Neon darted into the doorway of the closest shop to him. Looking around the shop, he nodded to the woman just inside. A very well built woman. Obviously trained in battle, he gave her a warm smile along with the nod. The potions and general look of the shop spoke of it as the alchemy tower. Honestly somewhere Neon hadn't had need to venture before, though Kaila had been by a few times to grab some things for herself. (And to try some out on him, if he was being honest.) She had spoken well of the shop and he had some time to spare. It was much better than the alternative, at least. Trying to get away from the doorway in case the Baroness had seen him duck in, Neon made his way towards the staircase, pretending to look at merchandise as he walked.

A few people around the office giggled in unison until a glare from Nino silenced them back to work, “A moment to laugh is just as wasteful of a work moment as standing here in front of me also not working…and late!” Nino smirked and grabbed a piece of paper off her desk, looking like it was well thought out and prepared and her looking as if she was just waiting, just waiting for this moment for the entire morning, “Late? Great! Don’t take off your coat. Late man buys everyone lunch. Grab a few potions on your way back. Oh and…” she slapped the paper into his open palms, “Your treat, no pouting.” Nino was an a** most days, but it looked almost as if she had planned this moment for the past few months. Vah had a pretty good attendance record, but this time he was just, “Too late into the shift.” Nino wasn’t being picky, she always had the late ones buy everyone lunch. It was her way to grab a bit of fun during her mundane day at the office.

Vah groaned and looked through the slip of paper that had only one handwriting on it. It was perfectly neat and looked almost like the arcane handwritings in his tomes. Sometimes Vah envied his boss for her perfections in pretty much everything, but today, he was going to be pretty sour. He dropped his bag and his own lunch into the box of ice until it was time for lunch. Vah would probably end up eating something else. He’d been in such a rush that his lunch was only a small container of leftover salad scraps from home with a slice of lemon. He’d probably figured it was not enough, but the list was going to cost him a bit already. Free lunch days meant people unleased their inner most ungrateful and freeloading spirits like it was scrapping for the daylight and finally took a breather. He eyed the list as he took off most of his heavier baggage in the locker room. Some b*****d ordered a bloody ******** steak. A steak for lunch. Another ordered Pocko’s most expensive sandwich meal. Not a single thing on the list was cheap. Even the potions were going to cost him a pretty penny.

Making sure that he had his wallet on him, he muttered a “Back soon” to the office and passed by Amy again who gave him yet another eye. It was almost like she already knew and without her even opening her mouth Vah, feeling like he was just obligated to do so, explained, “I overslept okay?” It was going to be one of those moody days again. At least, on the bright side, he had an excuse to chuck out that salad for a more decent lunch. Sure, everything on the list was going to cost him an arm and leg, but at least he made second most compared to everyone in that office. He was Nino’s best assistant and sometimes, he wondered, if people just wanted to test how much they could buy off Nino herself, but the woman was perfectly punctual. She has been…for the past 18 or so years he’d known her. Nobody was getting any sort of gift of punishment from her. He couldn’t even count the amount of free lunches she had leeched off everyone, in his both hands and feet. Not one man or women nor even the office messenger bird, has not been punished to grab food. Save for her of course.

”It would probably be better if I went and ordered lunch for everyone before grabbing the potions.” He’d cheat the list many times before. After all, others had cheated before. He was a fool and the office cute new recruit before. He brought everything on the list from their exact requested locations. Pocko…Giant Clam…Newman’s…his first punishment had places that were exquisite and the office had a darn good laugh about it later. He’d just grab similar orders from cheaper areas afterwards. Linde didn’t even come back with anything remotely looking like a sandwich last time. Vah figured the two closest place for orders was just near a potion store. Walking in, he handed the entire slip over, slightly still salty about the whole deal to be more chatty with the clerk. The woman’s face looked just as sour at the list of 15 dishes. What a b***h. You’re not the only one. I’m PAYING “Hey,” he said, feeling obligated to explain for the second time in an hour, “I’m paying for a whole office. People suck, ya know? Can’t even be generous to at least order something less expensive.” He mentally punched himself for sounding like a jackass and finished it off with, “Cut me some slack. Nino’s punishing me for being tardy,” as if she would know who—“Nino? Nino Iris of the guild?” She asked incredibly shocked, “I’ve known her for three years and never has she not tried to talk me down the price? Once, I sold her something for only a hundred gold ((I figured the currency would be 1 gold = 1 US cents like some games with a hundred as a dollar. Is that okay?)) She asked me to bring it down to 75 stones! That woman!” The clerk rambled on, more energetic and sweeter than earlier, about her sympathies and sorrows of Nino before turning beet red and simply stating, “That’ll be 21375 gold ($213.75)…oh and 30 minutes. We’ve only got one chef and baker today.”

If Vah hadn’t mentally prepared on his walk here, he probably would’ve been blow off his socks. Sure it was a reasonable price and with 15 workers, it probably would’ve been more if it wasn’t for a couple of “I’m not so hungry” or “I’ll go easy” guys in the back. They never had time for food, last he checked, so it wasn’t particularly out of generosity, but even the grand total stung. He pulled out two platinum pieces and with an exaggerated sigh he handed them over like a cheers, “To the people Nino has financially slaughtered!” The clerk giggled and returned his change before handing him a receipt (which he WON’T get ANY compensation over) and repeated the time before heading into the kitchen. Right before he left the doorways, he heard the chef even give out a bellow, “Holy Hell? Who eats STEAK FOR LUNCH?!?”

Just a street down, Vah entered casually into a potions shop. He knew the woman here well. She was someone whose family was well known amongst the alchemists for their renowned skills in potions and charms (and hexes too according to the rumors about the youngest son) but the clerk herself was not part of that. She was part of the warriors guild (to the horror or her mother who for years after kept nagging about how her daughter’s muscles were growing bigger and more horrifying). Rosia greeted the man as he walked in. He swore that with every movement, her muscles just rippled and honestly, it terrified him at the thought of ever breaking any merchandise. All she needed to do was grab him in one hand and that was the end of it. “Here for Nino again?” Oh, she knew Nino well. Rosia’s husband, Egor, was a local blacksmith in this area. He had….unpaid debt for the woman and often times it came in the likeness of free potions. He didn’t’ have priveledge of that, but after the shock of the lunch prices, he wish he did. “Yeah…was late to work,” he muttered regrettably before looking through the entire store for whatever was on the list. He knew the place like his own. The prices fluctuated occasionally from season to season, but he could guess the relative price already and the numbers made his head swim. There were a few in the clearance section. They were interesting charms, but nothing bit at him. He looked through a few of the other items on his list. One was a bundle of newt tongues. They were hard to come by and Vah almost had the urge to crush the sheet. He picked up the dried tongues and went behind the staircase. It often held the more…gruesome ingredients and the entrance to the area had a good thick curtain so that no little children would accidently wander over or see if from the other areas of the shop…least they be scarred for life. He needed bison scales off the bison dragon fish as well as goblin eyes. These were probably for the three dark mages in the office. He grabbed those too before leaning back on a wall to check the list again.

100 stones to 1 gold. ((100 pennies to $1))
1 platinum = 5000 gold ((a fifty dollar bill))
1 MASS = 10000 gold ((a 100 dollar bill))
1 crown = 100000 gold ((…1000 dollar bill?))

You can change the currency names of course. I’ve never been particularly good at coming up with names. I named MASS after Masrin city. A personal currency?

ooo The bottom level of the alchemy tower's potions were interesting to look at, sure, but it didn't take long before Neon's interest began to fade. He garnered a raised eyebrow from the guard and returned it with an apologetic smile. He was just preparing to leave when a young lad came rushing down the stairs, an obvious objective in mind and a look that expressed frustration and humility both. Obviously the fire of someone who had been reproached and wasn't happy about the result. If Neon hadn't gotten out of the way as quickly as he did, he would've been run over entirely. Neon nearly called out in anger, but instead a smirk spread across Neon's face for . . . multiple reasons. "I think it's time I take my leave." Neon spoke to the shop's receptionist a few mere moments after the other gentleman had left.

ooo It wasn't really considered stalking if he had intention of talking to the person, right? No. That didn't quite make sense, and it wasn't like he had been habitually- He never did things like this, it was just that- The thoughts gushed out on top of each other as he followed the young lad on a mission through the streets. Or, he would have if a familiar face didn't stop him dead in his tracks. 'Neo! Neo-buns!" Kaila called out, obviously on her way to the alchemy tower or the like. The shopping district had a plethora of stores to choose from and Kaila visited so often it could be said she practically lived there. "What are you doing here? The event was canceled due to a few . . . hooligans making a mess of the thing. It was a minor event anyways. Just some old relics clinging to tradition. The usual 'burn the witches' garbage they spout. We've made leaps and strides, but Masrin wasn't built in a day. Enough about me. What are you doing away from the training grounds? I just saw the Baroness heading that way, I'm sure she--"

ooo Kaila sure did like to talk. It was really hard to get a word in edge wise. "Kaila! Ugh. I was just doing a bit of . . . browsing." he began, trying to catch a glimpse of the man past Kaila's shoulder, but it seemed he was gone, lost in the crowd. Sighing lightly to himself, Neon picked up where he left off. "I just needed to clear my head some. It was getting . . . rough. And I sort of don't want to deal with my sponsor today, so if you could, please don't tell her you saw me if you happen to see her again." he finished, practically begging.

ooo Kaila truly understood Neon better than anyone else in his life, and the nodding of her head expressed this if nothing else did."Of course! You got it! No need to worry! She'll be at the training grounds for a while and then likely go searching for you in your guild apartments. It's rare that you ever are found anywhere besides those two places. And because of this, I think it's time to celebrate! Neon's freedom from the confines of his bedroom and training area! Let's grab a bite to eat!" Again, Neon didn't have a chance to get a word in, Kaila talking and gesturing non stop until a decision was already made on his behalf. Before he knew it, he was being dragged away by the newly raised Rank 4 Mage to grab a bite to eat at some place not too far from here. Neon had to admit that after all that training, he was rather hungry. Perhaps taking a moment to grab a bite to eat with a good friend. And who knew, maybe the guy from the alchemy tower would show up. It was lunch time and he did head off in this vague direction. Those weren't enough reasons to make the event sound likely, but you could always hope, even if the odds were astronomical.

“Oops! Sorry!” Vah gave the man a blush and apology, “Guess I was in more of a rush than I thought!” He explained as he rushed around. He loved scrolling through the different ingredients, but he’s been here enough times that he could glance and see the new items in seconds. There was nothing really “new” this season, so it was a big disappointing.
On the usual days, Vah loved shopping in the mage’s district. There were no actual distinctive market districts, but that doesn’t stop them from grouping up together to form a giant community. The mages stuck together like strong glue and the warriors had their own as well. It wasn’t even limited to just one town or city in Masrin, it was a collective mini town for almost all around. It was helpful to the guildies, it was helpful to the businesses and it was certainly helpful to the local communities and customers. There was no need to moan and groan about how one marketplace had a displaced proportion of mage shops vs warrior’s blacksmiths, weapon stores, etc. Each small area was known to be just that, heavily in weapons, heavy in magical items, heavy in bakeries, some shopping districts even come together has a mini town of only bookstores! There were, of course, small businesses of all sorts, scattered amongst each town (for accessibility sake) so that some people, who just so happened to not want to travel to the farmers’ market, could stop by the small grocery store around the corner. If you happened to be a mage who also owned a knife that broke, in which you didn’t want to travel to another district, there were a few good blacksmiths here and there as well.
The mage district that Vah loved so much was one of those that retained the old shopping districts. It was mostly 70% mage shops now, but there was a higher concentration of “other” stores around than the other districts. He could get everything done in one area and it was good to mention that each little district seemed to have its own economy with potions ranging in different places per town. This district’s potion was hell of a lot cheaper than Prancer District just a few 10’s of blocks away…the food was expensive, but not the potions. So as he rung up his items, there was no need to do a double take and cry over the price…even if it was, “30932 gold,” Rosia said with a grin, “That’s a damn big of an amount!” she remarked as Vah pulled out a few MASS pieces. He rolled his eyes and said, “At least, these I’ll be compensated for. Did you know someone…SOMEONE in that damned office ordered a fine rich steak for lunch?” He didn’t even know who it is, otherwise he would spend the day sneering at the guy…or girl…

Rosia gave a holler as she gave back some change and said, “Well…good luck with her! I can’t seem to finish paying of my hubby’s debt to her! It’s unfortunate this is my family’s shop, otherwise, I’d pay my husband’s debt off of the profits. But, not my shop,”
“And not their problem,” Vah finished off for her, grabbing the cloth bag of potions and other ingredients.
It was almost 15 to the next hour by the time he walked back into the store only to frown at the bags waiting for him, “Well…geez! How am I going to carry all of these?!?”

ooo Sitting down to eat, Kaila did all of the ordering, of course. She knew what Neon wanted before he even had time to think. And the thing was, she actually knew what he wanted. It wasn't just wild shots in the dark, she had some sort of six sense when it came to these things. It was of course a simple meal of roast beef, fresh bread and a few pieces of cheese. Just what he needed to hit the spot. His stomach growled intensely before the platter hit the table. He thanked the waitress for her service and then began to dig in as Kaila began recounting her day without hardly even touching her salad.

ooo[ Neon was only half paying attention and he got the feeling that Kaila was catching on, he decided it was time for him to interject more than just the occasional 'mms' and 'uh huhs'. "Oh, really?" That wasn't any better and he could tell by the look on her face. His eyes slid from Kaila for just a moment and landed on someone with a ton of bags to carry, and his ears picked up on their words as well. Swallowing the last of his meal and tossing back the last of his punch to wash it down, he bolted to his feet. "Can't you see this gentleman needs our help, Kaila?" Neon spoke, bounding to the aforementioned gentleman's side. "I mean how ru--" he began before he cut himself off at seeing who needed the help and cleared his throat straightening his back. He immediately dropped the silly demeanor he had put on. Kaila always brought the worst out of him in that regard. "I mean. If you n-needed help that is. I assume you wouldn't mind? Kaila will help too, won't you, Kaila? Kaila raised her eyebrow and Neon questioning before approaching at a much more casual pace, offering her consent to helping. "Excuse me. The name's Neon. And the slowpoke is Kaila." The slowpoke comment earned him a swift kick in the rear. "You're going to have to do better than that." Neon chided with a snicker before offering a hand to the young mage before him.

The clerk looked just as amused and was ready to say something when Neon intruded the conversation, much to the shock of the clerk. It wasn’t always that someone helped another in this town. With everything so focused on guild work and requests, asking someone to grab a box of blueberries off the top shelf of the supermarket might even have the other say, “Well…are ya gonna pay me?” Sure, there were a few kind and decent people, but it was rare…Vah turned to the man and instantly his frown turned around, “Oh hey! You’re the guy from earlier! If you’re offering, guess you’re not too angry about me running around in the shop,” he let out a chuckle.

While Vah wasn’t someone well known in the other two major guilds, just as Neon was not particularly well known in the mages guild, he was someone whose name was constantly thrown around in the mage’s guild. Being a descendant of a demon, he was naturally more powerful than the rest of the mages. It was terrifying to watch a little 12 year old sling hexes and fire tornados around carelessly. He was also, still, the gossip of the guild for yet another prank around the floor three’s office or creating (with Nino) yet another crazy potion or new hex. He was that deadly kid who just refused to return to assassination based requests. It infuriated the top officers, even if their demeanors told them other wise. Every now and then people who suggest to bring him along in meetings only for Nino to shoot them down, reminding them that there is no point in bringing someone who refuses to fight…to a fight. Nowadays, he was just known as the rainbow haired kid with a flare for jokes and charms (and hexes but please don’t remind him). Vah himself, remained ignorant of all the other people except floor three officers and workers and Nino. He glanced at Kaila and smiled, “Oh! You’re a mage too! Nice to meet you! I’m Vah! Errrr Vah Eondice! Nice to meet you!”

He grabbed a handful of the bags and said, “Well…if you don’t mind…It’s only to the alchemy tower a few blocks away…Are you sure? You look like you’re…” he glanced over to the only tabletop of food with no occupants, “…still eating! No no…” he grinned, “I appreciate you’re offer, but I can’t have you just miss a well deserved lunch right? I can always make two trips.” He chimed in with a few people starting to look over and whispering, “What the hell…5…8 bags of food man!” A few people mumbled about the tower, “Lunch over at the mage guild looks like heaven man,” as well as a few whispers of the “celebrity Kaila is here! With that warrior Neon!” A girl in the corner fake swooned to her friend, “Lucky man! Imagine if Warrior Neon helped me with my groceries to my home!” Thought she turned back to her food quickly when she realized how loud she was. Vah smirked, “Oh! Looks like you’re quite the show!” Grabbing the bags and giving it a test lift he smiled, “Eh. Maybe two runs?” He noted. One of the lunches took up an entire bag itself (because ******** the steak lunch man) which consisted of a medium rare full steak, whole side of sweet corn and extra veggie side of green beans, side of toasted loaf of bread with a cup of butter to the side, sliced fried potatoes and a canister of rum. He appreciated it if the stranger’s offer was not a blank one, but it wasn’t like he was too weak to carry a few bags of food.

(FYI…when I wrote this, I forgot just how heavy 15 people worth of lunch (combo meals man!) actually WAS O_O my old workplace very OFTEN had companies call in large orders…for delivery! The only people who picked up came for two boxes and had help to their cars soooo XD and they were pretty strong people themselves har har))

ooo "Aaah. No. I can at least guess part of why you were in such a hurry, now." Neon responded with only a hint of a smile. His composure back, he was his old self if not so broody as he was normally lately. Kaila came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. Peeking from behind him. Neon moved his arm over hers, placing his hand on top of hers. She had taken to being rather physical as of late, but if it made Neon feel uncomfortable at first, he grew to accept it and actually appreciate it. "Halo! Rank 4, Kaila Encarta of Fallen Mantho. And of course, you have Rank 4, Prince Neon Alcandor of Fallen Mantho, as well." she spoke, adding their surnames for good measure. She was one for showing off, but Neon didn't really appreciate it as emphasized by his glaring look back at her. If anything could bring his mood down about a million pegs, it was bringing up Mantho. Kaila got irritated if anyone else brought it up, always dancing around the topic, but Kaila brought it up head first always so sure that Neon would reclaim their home. But, Kaila hadn't lost nearly as much as Neon in the onslaught of their homeland. But, she had lost enough.

ooo Neon looked over his shoulder at the tray of food where Vah was looking. There were only a few scraps on Neon's plate, but it was true that Kaila had barely begun to dig into her salad. Neon's grip on her hand had grown tight due to his frustration at her and she snatched it from him giving him an angry look before swatting at his bottom as she pulled away from their embrace. Neon sighed. He couldn't let his mood sour every time this happened. "No no no. Kaila eats like a rabbit anyways. Although she can stay if she wants." Neon then added, giving her a sharp glare. He really had to learn to let some stuff go. She wasn't being mean, she genuinely believed in him, yet he still let it get to him. "No way, Jose! With you around, moody booty, who knows what sort of emotional damage you'll do to my fellow mage here! I want to chit chat anyways! You've been trained by the guild, then, I assume? What rank are you, if you don't mind my asking?" In general Kaila fashion, she made her way from behind Neon to over beside Vah with a series of exaggerations while she spoke. Accenting her sentences with a hand to the chest or wrapping her arm around Vah's shoulder before bending down and picking up one of the bags. She couldn't be expected to do that much physical labor, could she? She looked down at the bag, contemplating using magic to carry it. Kaila was one for showing off, but she had just been chided recently about using magic in public for menial tasks. Relying too heavily on magic was frowned upon by the guild, but that didn't mean that Kaila wouldn't still do chores with it. She just tried to refrain in public where everyone could see, just in case someone let it slip and it got back to the guild. Even though it killed her not being able to show off.

ooo Neon just shook his head and smirked, though not with as much mirth as prior, before picking up the remaining bags and giving them a good weighing over before giving a look of approval of the weight. "I cut my workout short this morning anyways." he offered with a stifled laugh at his own joke. The bags weren't really that heavy to the seasoned warrior. "Plus, I don't really think I could eat with a piece of mind anymore." he then added in a much more hushed tone before giving a sideways glance at the diners who had made comments about their celebrity. Kaila beamed whenever anyone recognized her. She still wasn't especially well known, but she did her best to put her face out there and go to all the events and participate in anything and everything possible that gained her esteem. Not Neon, however. He preferred to avoid the spotlight. It only made him feel the burden on his shoulders even more to meet the expectations everyone expected from him to be the first to reach Rank 5 Warrior in decades and to free Mantho from the grip of the Dark Waters. He definitely could use a break from the eyes that were watching him now that they had spotted who he was. Plus, the way word spread in this city, there was no telling when Baroness Shahar would show her face, and she definitely would. Best they get going, Neon gestured for Vah to lead the way, Kaila following shortly after, chatting away about magey things. Neon didn't particularly understand, but he could tell that Vah would get swept up in one of her rants if he wasn't careful. If you didn't keep pace with Kaila in a conversation, she would take over entirely.

Confusion built up once the female began to talk. It was clear that the two were four stars by the way they held themselves and of course…for their introduction. They were royalty? There were many four stars who often boasted of themselves in public or made sure that other people knew of them as what they were. Similar to how doctors had title initials after their names, certain level fours just seemed to walk around with the words “Rank 4” attached to their names. Surprisingly enough, the man named Neon looked hardly happy about having his rank revealed and a part of it hit home. He himself had the choice to rise up to be a rank 4 and refused it countless times. This man seemed to bond in a similar way and for a second, he felt sorry for bringing up so much attention. He thought of Fallen Mantho and frowned. Didn’t Mantho go…awhile ago? There was a reported news that few survived including one royal single and nothing more. He had learned about it going through the archives on one of his many “missions” that Nino herself requested, but much of what was of Mantho was all of its history up to the point of its demise from the demons…like him. He bit his lips and glanced around as more people started to mumble about the two before smiling, “Well~ Lady Kaila Encarta and Sir Neon Alcandor. I appreciate your help.” He beamed. Who knew what was true and right. For all he knew, she could be lying. He didn’t want to take it too far with these strangers, but there was no disrespect in his tone. It did seemed peculiar that Kaila was practically clinging on Neon and for a second, he thought of the little live octopus that people seemed to dare others to eat and their little suction cups just latched onto the skin…

He thanked them again when Neon and Kaila picked up the rest of the bags. He couldn’t help but wonder if they were trying to make this a subcontract of some sort, not that it mattered of course. A simple helping hand wasn’t much of a monetary problem. “Oh? I wouldn’t call myself a mage mage anymore. I know magic and all, but I preferred to remain a rank 3 and work in the alchemy tower. You might’ve heard of my boss though, Nino? She’s notorious of her outrageous requests of all different sorts,” he laughed, easily dodging anymore magic questions. He still remembered the last spell he had casted had roasted a man to the point that his skin was crispy and blistered, black and charred like roasted pig ((FYI: I read one of those FB “list of worst things” that CSI or Forensics see and one of them described a burn victim and how she couldn’t look at pork for months. No picture, but the description alone scared me Dx)). He woke with nightmares for weeks after and finally just told Nino that he rather stay and work with her all day rather than take on anymore field requests.

“Nino is just the floor supervisor at rank 3,” he continued as they walked down the street, “but somehow she’s managed to also run and “dictate” over the several floors below and above us too…” She is the one whose name was plastered over most of the potions in the store he had been in earlier. Turning to Neon he grinned, “I saw that you weren’t particularly interested in the mage store earlier. Did dried lizard tongues not appeal to you?” he joked. The basket of tongues were personally gathered not by anyone of any of the guilds but by a local medical apprentice. Most of the “lizards, shrooms, and natural anythings” were scavenged by the local clinics. Vah’s mind bounced to the Xomaci Mountains before continuing the conversation. He didn’t want to be asked another question about magic and just wandered on the topics at hand and simply turned to Kaila. Seeming to be someone who enjoyed anything that mentioned her prowess, instead he asked, “You’re a mage! What about you? I’m sure you guys have more fun than us nerds in the tower,” he joked.

((Sorry it's a little sort...they are conversing so I don't know what to write without making Vah sound like he's a massive chatterbox!))

ooo Neon trailed behind the two mages as they talked. Kaila beamed at the titles, though Neon didn't, even if he wasn't as broody as before. Neon sometimes eyed when Kaila would touch Vah. It wasn't the same as when she touched him, not as intimate. But even if it was, what reason did he have to get jealous? There were zero reasons.

ooo"Oh! That Nino! I actually stop by the alchemy tower pretty often to pick up some potions personally. Beauty potions. Not the more magical beauty potions, but the ones that helped keep skin tight and smooth and hair manageable. Potions that helped enhance natural beauty rather than artificially create it. Before she had a chance to continue overtaking the conversation, Vah turned the conversation to Neon.

ooo"Dried lizard tongues are actually my favorite snack." Neon offered shortly with such a matter of fact dry tone that it was hard to tell if he was kidding or not. He raised an eyebrow that said "What? Don't you eat them plain, too?". Again it was hard to tell whether that was just a dry sense of humor or serious. It wasn't long before Vah made the mistake of handing Kaila a direct question. And one that she could talk about for hours. Neon sighed and shook his head, giving Vah a sympathetic smile and shrug as Kaila's face brightened visibly.

ooo You could almost hear Kaila gasp as her hand touched her chest as if surprised such a question would come up when it was all she was asking questions about. As if she wasn't trying to fish for that very question. The guild may frown upon using magic for menial tasks, but "Goodness. A ton of the parties are boring for the most part. At least the official parties. But the tricks you pick up from the intense training they offer for Rank 3s and above can be immensely beneficial!" Kaila jumped into the air and whipped out a stick from her pouch. It seemed short at first, but then seemed longer. Then it became obvious that it was much too long for the bag, before the broom bristles were pulled out. Hopping on it and flying into the cloudy sky, a rainbow trail of light followed the broomstick as she rode high above the building tops. She waved her hand out over the city and a wave of large stars flew out from her shirt sleeve in a crescent as she waved. The stars flew out several yards before the burst into shimmering bubbles. Children in the streets tried frantically to catch them as Kaila returned to the two with a huge grin on her face watching the children chase the bubbles. Upon being touched the bubbles would burst in a harmless firework display of sparks and glitter, leaving behind no trace. "Non official mage parties can be a ton of fun. I'm practically filled to the brim with party tricks, if I'm to be honest. You always need something fresh to impress mages. And only half of the 'fresh' tricks are a hit." Though, Kaila tried to have only hits. And half of the time, they were. This was one of her more minor displays that Neon had seen. They got pretty elaborate sometimes, but those too a lot of effort and time and it seemed Kaila was aware that this was not the time nor the place. Neon adjusted the bags to account for the additional one that Kaila had handed them hardly even paying attention to what she did. Neon shook his head at her. She had a good heart, but so help him she didn't need to be reigned in from time to time. And Neon wasn't sure he was the man for that particular job. "I could've told you this would happen. She won't stop with the tricks until we're to the tower, now. And perhaps not even then. If I wasn't such a nice guy, I'd say let's ditch her while she's still distracted." he chuckled, genuinely kidding, as he watched her appreciate the children's reaction to the bubbles.
