Eoana's forest covers nearly half the island and is quite dangerous to cross if one is on their own as despite some roads going through the forest to the main city and other locations, many wild animals live here and some bandits take advantage of travellers, although the guards try to get rid of such groups.

-Enter Gannon and Lerato to Eoana Forest –

The closer they came to the forest’s edge, the more at ease Gannon felt. Brageet ruffled her feathers lightly before chirping her signal. Extending his arm, Gannon waiting until she’d moved her way down his arm to his leather clad wrist. Once she was ready, he launched her into the air so she could take flight and fly on ahead of them. Smiling to himself as he watched her soar through the trees, he felt a sense of wholeness, of calm. Glancing back at Lerato, who seemed to be watching him, he blushed yet again, much to his dismay, and turned to lead the way down a light path through the foliage.

“The forest can be dangerous, especially at night, but while you’re with me, you have nothing to fear. The animals all know and recognize me. While Brageet does hunt to survive, they know that I mean them no harm, so they pay me the same courtesy.” Gannon explained as they walked deeper into the vastness of the forest. While Lerato’s footsteps made a sound, Gannon’s were so light that it was hard to hear him move through the brush. After having spent so much time within nature, he had learned how to move through it without disturbing it. His silence was what made him such a good hunter and spy – although he hadn’t used his skills for spying in some time.

Leading the way toward an area where he knew wild flowers bloomed and thrived, he kept his thoughts mostly to himself, as was his nature. Eventualy, they came to a small clearing in the center of the forest, where the sun shove through the open canopy to the forest floor. Stepping to the side, he looked to Lerato with a small smile. “You wanted wild flowers for crowns, will these do?” He asked as he gestured to the dozens of varieties and colors that the forest had to offer.

Usually, the forest would be off-limits especially to those who were not aware of the dangers that came along with the place. There would be creatures lurking in the night, more so when they were searching for food. But right now, Gannon felt at ease especially it was his most favorite place. Once again, Lerato noticed the blush and he internally chuckled, because it was adorable, but he chose not to talk about as to not disturb the tranquil atmosphere of the place. After the conversation about the area, he nodded slowly in agreement, tucking a finger close to his chin. “So it's as if you are the special guest that they recognize so well. Definitely lovely, and so interesting.”

Eventually, he followed the other until they reached the clearing, and the sunlight bathed on that special spot. Lera smiled; every artist would like to draw that scene. When Gannon looked up at him, mirroring that same expression, his stomach fluttered a little; that expression was mostly a rare sight to behold. He sat down, fingers brushing against the grass while the other spoke about the flowers. It was then that he found one, the petals bearing a golden yellow color.

“This may be perfect for the crown, don't you think?” Lera questioned while looking around for different colors. There were even shades of blue and red as well. Definitely, a good combination since they were part of the primary color trifecta.

Whilst Lerato approached the beautiful wildflowers, a look of awe on his face, Gannon stood back near the tree line. With his gaze locked on his colleague, he watched in silence, observing the scene as Lerato took a seat amongst the flowers, a smile on his lips. It was a scene to behold. The handsome musician, seating amongst the brilliant colors of the forest. It looked like a scene out of a fairy tale, and he was the only one who would ever see it.

As Lerato reached down to pick an elegant yellow flower, Gannon crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back against a tree to watch and keep an eye on him. He smiled slightly at Lerato’s words and nodded. “I trust your judgement.” As he’d said before, he had never made a flower crown, so he didn’t know which flowers worked best for them, but he trusted Lerato’s judgement.

Once Lerato began to pick various colors and shades of flowers, and Gannon was able to see which ones he preferred, he moved away from the tree and into the clearing. Moving silently around Lerato, he set about picking the flowers needed for Lerato’s crowns. By the time he’d finished, he had two large handfuls of beautiful flowers for Lerato to use.

Approaching his colleague, he took a seat across from him before placing the flowers between them without a word. Glancing up at Lerato, he smiled a bit sheepishly, well aware that his cheeks were a bit pink. Under Lerato’s guidance, he too began to weave the flowers together to form a ring, the blooms facing outward to form the crown. While Lerato’s crown was tightly woven and elegantly arranged, Gannon’s was…not. It was much looser in weave and the colors weren’t as well spread out. But in any case, he was proud that he’d learned something new.

Lerato simply smiled at Gannon's affirmation, nodding slowly while turning his head so that he would see his colleague's posture. The owl owner was leaning against the tree so that he would feel comfortable. Seeing him pose like that, even if it was just for the sake of relaxation, made his heart swell a little. It wasn't long before the two began working on the crowns, more so with the huge bundle of flowers that he had gathered just for the project, guiding the other court mage through the process. The peaceful atmosphere, coupled with the scenery that was just so picturesque, was just perfect for what they were doing today.

At the end, Lera's final product was splendid as always, the branches were woven together perfectly for the circle that would soon be on put on the head. However, Gannon's was far from perfect; it was actually crude with loose ends here and there. The musician smiled, knowing that it was just awful, but it was still the other's first time with the project so he would grant the other forgiveness for the failure. “Even my first time in that flower crown was awful like yours. But I did get better through time and effort and I believe that you can do the same. So far, it's a nice work in progress and I applaud you for that.”

And it wasn't long before the musician's crown was put onto Gannon's head. Definitely, it looked splendid like a halo, more so when it was put on his colleague. He clapped his hands together in glee. “There. Looks amazing on you! Much more fitting when a future event involves appreciating nature and thanking for the bounty presented to us.” A huge grin broke out of his face as the effeminate male spoke those words.

Gannon knew that his flower crown wasn’t that well done, but to hear Lerato say it out loud only made him feel even more self-conscious about it. Yes, it was something new to him, but he was a bit sad knowing that in Lerato's mind it was 'awful'. Frowning down at the ring, he was halfway tempted to rip it apart, but that wouldn't do - it wasn't the flowers fault he couldn't weave them together like Lerato could.

Eyes still locked on the ring, he froze when he felt Lerato place his flower crown upon his head. Eyes wide, he didn't move for a moment as his colleague praised how good it looked. Glancing up at Lerato, Gannon felt a little embarrassed but at the same time flattered by the compliment. He wasn't used to this kind of attention and he wasn't sure whether Lerato was being friendly or if he was flirting. The third possibility was that Lerato was teasing him, but he didn't think his colleague would go through all this trouble just to jest with him - he didn't know Lerato very well, but he knew he wouldn't do something like that.

Without saying a word, Gannon began to unweave the flower crown he'd created. In seconds the flowers were strewn about him in little colorful piles. Remaining silent, he began again, this time taking it slow as he placed the flowers atop one another to weave them into a ring. His second attempt turned out better than his first. The weave was tighter and there were fewer ends sticking out. He didn't wait for Lerato to comment on it before he reached out to place it on top of his head. He knew that it likely wasn't up to his colleagues standard, but for now, it was the best he could do. He'd need much more practice to reach Lerato's skill level.

"Next time, it will be better." he said before leaning back to brace himself on his palms. Looking up at the sky, he didn't say much more as he became lost in his own thoughts. He'd never spent much time in this clearing before, the flowers holding little interest to him. Now, he could see the obvious beauty of the flowers and the calm serenity that the clearing offered. It was warm and peaceful here...a little sanctuary.

As expected for the reaction, Gannon's blush was definitely adorable. Lera had to resist the urge to squeal at the sight of the pink cheeks as a form of embarrassment. More importantly, he saw his colleague attempting to try again at the flower crown. Though the first attempt was far from perfect, at least the musician saw how determined he was. Introverted people do have their hidden strengths even when they were not shown most of the time, and the man beside him was among them.

While he was waiting for the other to finish, there were some birds chirping, though they were of a different species unlike the owl that was the constant companion of the special guest. They were chirping, as they were singing a special ballad related to the forest. The voices were truly splendid, a different quality from nature compared to Caden and his group mates. The spell was broken at the feeling of the flower crown on his head and the musician gingerly caressed the petals. His chuckle was warm and light, impressed at the improvement. “Indeed, you certainly did better this time around, and it's an A for me. Maybe next time, we should do some paper folding.” The petals and branches were soft to the touch like silk as he spoke the words.

Plus, the birds landed on a branch of an old tree that was part of the scenery, resting their wings. But still, their voices had blended in harmony, the pleasant trills filling his hearing with joy. Lerato had to savor that moment as much as he could.

While Lerato heard the pleasant songs of the birds, Gannon heard so much more. He knew their language and knew what they were singing and saying as they flitted from branch to branch at the edge of the clearing. They were curious about them. Gannon had come into this forest countless times and he’d never brought a visitor with him, not once. So naturally, the wildlife, many of which he called friend, were curious about whom he’d brought to the clearing.

‘Gannon! Who is that? Why’s he here?’ One bird chirped happily, bouncing from left to right on a nearby branch. ‘He likes you! He’s your lover, right?’ Another bird pipped up, landing close to the other. ‘He is handsome! Gannon, kiss him!’ Birds had such simple, one track minds. They didn’t understand how things worked with human courtship/mating. If a bird saw another bird and thought they were attractive, that was all it took. It was much more complicated with humans.

When Gannon didn’t answer them right away, one of the little sparrows took it upon himself to approach Gannon directly. Flitting over, he came to land in Brageet’s usual spot on his shoulder. Chirping away, it would look to Lerato as if the bird might be mad with Gannon, or especially chatty about something. He would be right, on both fronts. ‘Why are you ignoring us, Gannon? Don’t you like us anymore?’ The little sparrow chirped, it’s head tilting to the side in contemplation.

Smiling slightly, Gannon reaching into one of his pouch pockets to produce a small handful of birdseed for the sparrow and any other birds that might want to partake in the treat. <<’No, I’m not mad at you, I just don’t want to be rude to my guest. He doesn’t speak your language and it would be rude to leave him out of the conversation.’>> This explanation and the birdseed seemed to placate the sparrow, who happily hopped into his hand to peck at the flecks.

Soon, Gannon had half a dozen birds surrounding him, some perched on his shoulders, some nestled in his palm and some hopping around in front of him picking up fallen seeds. Glancing up at Lerato, he smiled a bit sheepishly. “I apologize, Lerato. They’ve been trying to get my attention for some time. They’re curious about you and who you are.” He clarified, looking to the many birds, which seemed to turn their attention to Lerato, as if expecting an answer. “They have some…theories about who you might be, none of which are correct.” He said with another light blush as he looked to the side.

Truly, the winged creatures were chirping happily, though they were focused on Gannon right now as if they were speaking close to him. Lera knew about the gift to communicate with animals and he had seen that mostly with him talking to Brageet. Although, things had taken an interesting turn with them around. Lerato couldn't comprehend about what they saying, so he was confused about the talk. But still, it was as if the mood had shifted slightly with whatever the conversation the birds were having right now with the man of the hour himself.

Lerato saw the sparrow trying to approach both Gannon and the owl because of the silence, and that was when the gentle gesture came along. There was the feeding time with the seeds, followed by the circling of the sparrows as if they were pleased with the hospitality. At the words about their curiosity, he chuckled. “It's fine that such curious creatures are interested to know who I really am, but that will be a long story worthy of a sonnet. All they need to know is that I'm a trusted friend that you can depend on, with a gift for music.” He then reached out to pick up one of the sparrows carefully, ensuring that the creature was cupped gently with both his hands.

And it was because birds would be not just pets to be caged. They deserved to be free no matter where they would be going, more so in this tranquil forest. He used a tip of his finger to caress the tiny one's head, smiling because of the beauty. “Such a cute one.”

As Lerato spoke, the birds turned their attention to him, curious about his answer to their chirped questions. To Gannon’s surprise, they seemed to accept his answer and were pleased to know that Lerato was a musician. Musical by nature, the birds always welcomed new music and thus, took an immediate liking to Lerato. ‘I like him! Bring him from now on! Let him make music for us!’ One sparrow chirped, to which the others chimed in happily as well. ‘Yes, music! We want to hear his music!’

To Gannon’s surprise and delight, the sparrows accepted Lerato as a friend, although he hadn’t been in the forest for long. Animals had a good sense of people and thus, Gannon knew that he could trust Lerato – not that he didn’t already, his opinion was just all the more reinforced by their immediate acceptance of him. Watching Lerato caress the head of one of the sparrows, much to the bird’s delight, he smiled, silently observing the scene. ‘Oooooooh…I like this human, Gannon. Keep him.’ Said the little bird receiving the loving pets from Lerato’s gentle hand. Chuckling lightly, he shook his head. <<’That is not how things work, little one. I cannot keep him unless he wishes to be kept by me.’ It was an interesting way of thinking of a relationship between people, but it was true.

<<’They do have a point though, Lerato is a nice man and would make a nice partner.’>> Brageet’s sultry mind voice moved through his mind like a warm loving caress as she made her presence known. Turning his head to the right, he caught sight of her snowy form perched high in one of the nearby trees. He smiled and shook his head. <<’Brageet, you know that is not how these things work…’ He was feeling a bit flustered by all this attention and prodding. He wouldn’t be forced into a relationship and he certainly wouldn’t assume anything regarding Lerato’s feelings. Hell, he didn’t even know how he felt about any of this.

After the birds seemed to have said their peace, Gannon gently shooed them back toward the forest. Arising from his position on the ground, he dusted himself off, taking care to not let his flower crown slip off before he leaned forward to offer Lerato his hand to help him up. “The sun will be setting soon, and there was talk of fireworks to end the celebration.” He said as he held out his hand. “If you like, we can relax in my home and have some tea while we wait for the sun to set. Unless you have other plans?” Lerato had suggested having strawberry pie at the festival and making strawberry crowns in the forest, now it was his turn to suggest something – unless Lerato had made other plans with his musician friends….In any case, he smiled down at his colleague and waited for him to take his hand or reject it.

Lerato was glad to know that the sparrow was beginning to trust him, more so with the gentle touch. Plus, the sparrows were chirping as if they agreed in unison, another part of the conversation shared with Gannon. Oops, even the owl seemed to agree with them; birds did end up sharing the similar language even with the differences in species. Again, the court mage couldn't understand, but the gestures sometimes spoke it all.

When Gannon gently gestured the sparrows to fly away, the silver-haired musician resisted the urge to chuckle. Indeed, such creatures could be a bit mischievous and that would be a slight detriment on the owl owner's part. Though luckily, at this moment, they chose to continue the telepathic talk for another time, if Gannon would feel a bit more comfortable with it. It was then that a hand extended to him, a gesture that meant that time had passed by and it was time to leave. Lerato simply smiled back as he grabbed the hand, the touch warm against his own, as he was helped to stand up, letting go after a brief moment. He then dusted off his pants, the setting sun pouring the luminescent glow over the flowers that formed the crown.

“Tea will be lovely before the fireworks. Can't wait to see your house.” That was all he spoke before sauntering away from the forest and towards Gannon's house. Caden and the others knew that it would be best to leave the two alone; their next catch-up talk would wait if the schedules would align. But still, Lerato wished that he would hold onto the hand even more, but he had to be granted consent first.

Tala's positive experience in the Library had distracted him from his anxieties so much that it was only as he was making his way back through the corridor that he realised he'd forgotten to cloak himself in shadow to avoid being seen by the others.
Initially he hadn't given it any thought and had stepped out of the library with his book under his arm, but as he noticed those he passed starting to regard him curiously, he realised it was far too late to even think of hiding himself from view - especially as the sight of a student suddenly disappearing into thin air might just cause a few negative reactions from the others... Biting his lip, he moved the book from beneath his arm, now clutching it against his chest as he walked carefully between the students.

He could feel himself getting rather tense as each individual appeared to get closer and closer the further he went. Eventually, after a few seriously near misses - and when the opportunity arose, he found his way from the corridor and followed a memorable route back out into the fresh air.

Being outside was a positive move, but there were still plenty of people around, so after taking a moment to gather himself - stepping away from the well travelled walkways - he cast his gaze across the expanse, spotting what looked like greenery in the distance - Greenery meant trees, trees meant forest...and if it was anything like the woodland back home, there were even fewer people out there.
Wasting little time and aware that there was a respite from lessons for a while, he struck a course across the grounds towards where he was certain he could relax.

Tala wouldn't stop until he reached the line of trees and only then would he glance back the way he'd come, scanning the area before stepping into the undergrowth - It had become a force of habit when moving between Baba's Cottage and the Village as the local youths had been known to pursue him from a distance in the hopes of finding his hideout and teasing the Witch... It was mostly for his own benefit that he checked as Baba would grow rather unpredictable if she suspected he'd been followed... Double-checking he was alone also allowed him the chance to relax, to play, and to practice his skills.

The shadows naturally cast by the trees shimmered into life as he passed, slipping along the forest floor parallel to the male before taking shape as he walked ever deeper. These 'creatures' took on the appearance of skinny black canines, their eyes varying in colour as they stalked him from the undergrowth.

Eventually, Tala located a clearing ahead and stepped calmly into the light, it was here that the shadowbeasts seemed to pause, hovering around the edge as though reluctant to move any further... "What's wrong?" A smirk on his face, Tala turned back, sitting down infront of a fallen log before holding out an upturned palm to urge the creatures closer, "You're not afraid of me are you?" The first of the pack gave a low growl and left the safety of the shadows, its head low, its ears flat. Tala watched as it lifted its gaze to the light covering of branches above, then beckoned it ever forward. The others watched cautiously as the first seemed not to fade with the sunlight, then, as it came within touching distance, they too broke cover, padding forward, tails raised as the male's fingertips brushed past the ears of the first.

It's fur was like that of any other canine, only it was much colder to the touch, Tala reveled in the familiar sensation as the beast allowed him to run his hands around the thick guard hairs around its neck, then as the others advanced, the male would extend both hands outward, petting all that approached as the group gathered around, greeting him in their own way before dispersing about the clearing.

Picking up the tome which he had set in his lap, Tala watched as most of the group disappeared back into the shade of the trees - no doubt to hunt. Some of the older beasts spread about the clearing, watching as the younger ones played chase between the rays of light from above. The Alpha stuck close, sitting against him as he flicked through the pages.

Resting the book against his knees, Tala lifted a hand, forming the orb in his palm as he had done back at the library before manipulating it into the first shape as he started to read. He would set it down on the ground after a while, his eyes glancing momentarily away from the page as the Alpha lay down before resuming the paragraph as the beast watched the tiny creature change forms between its large, clawed paws...

Excluding a moment when one of the younglings had decided to try and hunt Tala's ever-changing creation, the male would become so engrossed in the book that time would pass without his realising. Occasionally he would tear his eyes from the words to see what the shadowbeasts were up to, but it was only when the Alpha shifted into a sitting position that Tala would finally exhale a sigh and close the book; The light had begun to fade with the setting sun and the pack seemed to grow restless. "...Good book," he rose to his feet, dusting off his clothing before looking towards the Alpha. "...What's wrong?" The shadowbeasts seemed to have become more bulky as the afternoon had progressed, their shape no longer gangly and thin, but muscular and perhaps rather intimidating to those who had not seen them before; Tala rested a hand on the creature's back and its ears flattened as it lifted its gaze towards him, letting out a low grumble.

The male would watch as the shadowbeast stepped away from him, urging those that had remained to disperse before turning back and glancing over its shoulder as though waiting for him to follow. "Go time, huh?" Tala knew he hadn't come too far, but as the forest grew darker, even he knew it was perhaps time to head back to the academy. "Lead the way," he smiled, placing his hand on the shadowbeast's back as it turned towards the route he'd come.

Back home, the only thing he had to fear after dark was foolhardy sentinels, traps he'd set himself and of course Baba...but this forest felt as though it was starting to take on a whole different atmosphere. The trail itself was unfamiliar which didn't help, but as the world grew ever darker around him the sensation of being followed...perhaps even hunted started to bring on a sense of anxiety unfamiliar to him.

"I don't recall it taking this long to get back..." after what seemed like an age of walking, Tala concluded that the forest itself was alive, it wasn't until the shadowbeast ground to a halt, letting out a warning snarl which reverberated inside the male's chest, that Tala knew he was in trouble.
There was no point in panicking, but as something from the undergrowth rumbled in reply, he drew his hand from the shadowbeast's back and took a step away.

It would all happen in a matter of seconds, one moment the shadowbeast was ahead of him, the next moment, a large shape lunged from his left, slamming into the creature which disintegrated upon impact sending the assailant across the trail and into the undergrowth on the other side.

By the size of the beast and of course the fact it had chosen to attack, Tala knew he was dealing with a predator... It was imperative that he made a break for it whilst it was still reeling from the miss, but with nothing but trees in every direction, he would either have to run, or climb...

He wasted no time in shimmying up the nearest tree, clambering onto an adjoining branch before glancing down at the creature as it recovered and started to try and define his scent from the others. It wouldn't take long for it to locate where he had scrambled up, but as he'd swapped branches - climbing onto a sturdier limb - it seemed to pause as though confused. Tala would take this moment to form a distraction, creating a small ungulate from the shadows and sending it fleeing up the trail before using the sound to hide his movement as he clambered across yet another branch.

The creature seemed to give pursuit, following the deer as it skittered between the trees before grinding to a halt as the ungulate suddenly disappeared before its eyes. - Tala's ability could only spread so far out of sight before it would dissipate, meaning he had only a short amount of time to climb down and make a break for it...

With no knowledge as to where he was going, Tala knew it was only a matter of time before he would have to either clamber up another tree, or go to ground... Already, the forest seemed alert to the hunt, creatures hidden in the darkness squawked and squealed as the predator searched tirelessly for its target, soon it would rediscover his scent and turn back, its rumbling snarl resonating through the undergrowth as the male ran for his life.

Whether it was a stroke of good luck, or just chance, Tala would startle something small and white which would send him stumbling backwards as it shot skyward infront of his face. The shock of its appearance sent the male to the ground just inches from what could only be described as a gaping hole beneath one of the trees and he wasted no time in scrambling between the roots as the creature thundered into view...

Its frustrated roars rattled the hollow as its mighty claws gouged huge chunks of earth from around the base of the trunk... Tala withdrew as far as he could go into the back of the sett, watching as the large shape blocked the hole as the creature tried to reach in, hoping to drag out its prize... His heart was pounding in his chest and there was literally nothing he could do...nothing except...

It was hard to see what was already black in the darkness, but as he felt his body weaken from the stress, something started to move around his feet, his eyesight started to darken around the edges and as his consciousness grew weary he knew there was no stopping what was coming and closed his eyes...

Reaching what was perhaps clay beneath the soil, the creature's progress became slowed, leaving it no option but to recoil as something suddenly shot from the tunnel, catching it between the eyes. It gave a roar, toppling backwards as several unknown shades erupted from the sett, latching on with sharp teeth before flailing wildly as it started to thrash around in the hopes of dislodging them... More and more shadows began to flood from the entrance, surrounding the enemy, scratching, biting and driving it back before falling from their victim and dispersing into the night as it fled from the scene...

Underground, the male lay silent... He was still breathing, scratched and bruised, unconscious yet alive... The remaining shadows slithered from the dwindling pools on the cold earth, clawing their way out of the sett and into the night's air, they were much smaller than the first, but strong enough to remain alert and on guard until the morning light returned them from whence they came...

The second day of classes were relatively quiet for Gannon. As a substitute teacher, he was only in charge of the Diviner class for the time being, which meant that the elective days were ‘free days’ for him. While this sounded like an opportunity to relax, it wasn’t. As the Academy’s most senior Court Mage, he had duties that he needed to attend to. Unfortunately, having to substitute was getting in the way of his normal routine and causing a back log of his normal work. So, while his day had been relatively quiet, it had been extremely busy – so busy in fact, that he hadn’t been able to see Lerato at all. Considering that he hadn’t seen his boyfriend since their encounter in the Grand Library, he was beginning to miss him greatly.

Lying in bed, Gannon sighed heavily. It was just before dawn, and he was wide awake, despite being physically exhausted. Rubbing his eyes, he groaned lightly before stretching to wake up his aching muscles. He didn’t know why he was awake so early, but there was no helping it. Brageet chirped happily at him from her perch. Looking over at his beautiful snowy owl, he smiled. <<’Good Morning, beautiful.’>> He said as he touched her mind with his own over their link.

Sitting up and bed, he looked toward the window with a small smile. It was going to be a beautiful day, he could tell. <<’Good Morning, Darling. Did you sleep well?’>> While he was just waking up, Brageet was getting ready to go to sleep. She’d likely been out all night, hunting and just enjoying the beautiful night – he envied her.

<<’I slept alright…there was a lot of chatter going on last night. Did I miss something exciting?’>> He asked as he turned his full attention to Brageet. His lovely owl seemed to shift from one foot to another a bit nervously. Picking up on Brageet’s body language immediately, he approached his love with an arched brow. “Brageet…what happened?” He asked verbally, forgoing his mind voice.

Giving a little huff, she fluffed her feathers. <<’Well, I kinda woke you up early for a reason…’>> Brageet said with a small huff. Confused, he had to wonder if Brageet had woken him up early – he’d thought he’d come awake on his own, but she had her ways of waking him up with little mental prods. <<’There’s an intruder in the forest. Some of the animals think it’s a poacher who brought dogs, others say it’s one of the students from the Academy…’>> She said as she looked up at him. <<’I know where he is, I can take you to him…’

Feeling a sense of urgency, Gannon moved to grab his clothes. Regardless whether it was a poacher or a student, he needed to investigate it right away. “Is he still in the forest? Is another owl tracking him?” He asked as he pulled on his clothes and grabbed what few weapons he usually wore – a hunting knife and a dagger. <<’He’s in a hollowed-out tree. Something chased him inside and he’s been in there ever since…The animals were whispering about shadow creatures seeping out of the wood…’>> She said as she shifted uncomfortably from one foot to another. Frowning, he had to wonder what that could possibly mean…

Knelling down next to her perch, Gannon waited for Brageet to walk into his shoulder and get comfortable before he arose. Heading for the door, he took care to lock up behind him before heading right into the woods. The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, which boded well for him – entering the forest while it was still dark was ill advised, even for him. As soon as he stepped within the tree line, various animals came to meet him, each one chattering about the intruder that was still within the woods. Some showed avid curiosity, others expressed their abject fear. He tried to reassure them all that he would find the intruder and remove them from the woods, but nothing he said seemed to calm them down. Following the various critters toward the hollowed-out tree, he found that whoever had come into the woods had gone deeper than they should. While the forest was relatively safe, there were still predators that wouldn’t hesitate to attack a helpless target. Sure enough, the closer he came to the hollowed-out tree, the more evidence he found of foul play. Something big had been hunting the intruder…Luckily, he didn’t see any signs that the predator had been successful.

Upon approaching the hollowed-out tree, the claw marks that he’d seen before became even more pronounced. Grabbing the hilt of his dagger, he spied the shadow-like creatures that the animals had described. They wiggled and writhed like they were searching for something to snap or bite at. Narrowing his gaze, he had to wonder if he was dealing with a man or a beast…Just as he’d been about to call out to whomever or whatever still occupied the hollow space, the sun began to peek through the trees, spreading its rays on the surrounding area. To Gannon’s amazement, the creatures began to dissipate as soon as the light hit them. Curious, he moved closer, to peek into the space underneath the tree.

Sure enough, curled up in the darkness, was a person. Whether they were friend or foe remained to be seen, however. “Hello? Are you alright?” He called, his voice slightly echoing in the space the person occupied. Kneeling, his head peeking in, he waited for signs of life. If needed, he’d climb in to get the intruder out, but he hoped the person was well enough to climb out on their own…

Until the light crept its way into the hollow, Tala had felt as though he were lost in Limbo. The array of creatures that had clawed their way from his subconscious had left him feeling empty and exhausted, his eyes when he had finally returned to consciousness at whatever ungodly hour had spent the rest of the time staring off blankly into the darkness, focusing on nothing as the numbness that usually followed an 'attack' like that slowed his movement to a point where it wasn't worth wasting his remaining energy.

It wasn't until he heard the sound of a voice that Tala seemed to slip back into reality, he blinked as though awakening from a trance then glanced around the sett before stretching his aching muscles and leaning forward. The roots that he had come to rest against seemed reluctant to release him, pulling at his clothes as he started to crawl towards the entrance of the tunnel. He would wince at the light of the sun, holding up a hand to shield his eyes as he finally reached the entrance and lifted his gaze to regard the concerned face of an individual he failed to recognise...

"...Where?" emerging from the sett, Tala would rise, resting his back against the tree and taking a moment to look about him. It had all felt like a very bad dream, but his eyes widened when he saw the destruction caused by the creature's mighty claws - it was then that he remembered fully what had happened during the night and paled slightly, looking up into the eyes of the male as though searching for another explanation to the scene, "I-it's gone?" his ears would twitch at a sound beyond them, but his eyes would remain focused upon the male infront of him, at least until Tala looked away, his fingers tracing the scratches on his arms as he remembered pushing his way through the undergrowth in a desperate attempt to evade his pursuer...

"...It happened again, didn't it?" he knew the male wouldn't know anything about what had occurred in the past, but the signs were there and with the sheer exhaustion he felt, it left him with only one conclusion. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to lose control...I just hope I didn't hurt anyone?" He recalled in his mind a night from his past when he'd been pursued into Baba's forest by the Sentinel Guards, how they'd trapped him in a pincer movement and surrounded him - the overwhelming fear that had taken him over as they'd tried to make their arrest had pushed him past the point of no return and he'd awoken hours later to find remnants of armour and uniform strewn about the clearing...

Regardless of what had happened in the past, Tala felt for certain this incident would land him in a heap of trouble...
