    xxxxAbout the Professor:
Professor Jasper Ichabod Marcs-Conroy (only goes by Professor Marcs), was born to a pureblood witch and wizard. His father came from a banking family full of loan sharks and his mother came from a family of seers and prophets. He of course soon became the failure of his parents as he turned out to be a squib. His Grandmother Marcs a seer from him mother's side took pity on him and adopted him from his parents.

Grandmother Marcs was adamant that Jasper learned the arts of prediction to his limitations as a squib and receive a reputable muggle education. As Jasper began his education in Mathematics of Random Systems he took two Adult Education Courses during his summer. He easily scored an O in Arithmancy which he felt was little different than the predictions muggles make using statistics, and an E in Ancient Runes which he found a bit more difficult for his mathematically inclined mind.

In 2048, Jasper completed his DPhil Mathematics of Random Systems CDT and with his choice of Universities he chose to began a professorship at the University of Sydney. His time was quite successful for ten years where he was beloved by his students, noted for his research, and soon to be selected for tenure before a conflict with a fellow professor regarding the quality of the other professor's work ended with Jasper being requested to leave the university to hide any controversy.

Until Jasper started with Hogwarts, he worked as an arithmancer working from his apartment in London.

The Arithmancy classroom is one of the smaller classrooms in Hogwarts as the subject does not require much space for instruction and the class sizes tend to be smaller. In the front of the classroom is a large chalkboard with a small desk and rolling desk chair. The words "No Wands Out in this Classroom" are etched in the board with chalk for so long that only a scrugify charm could remove the words. In the back of the classroom is a book shelf with several books of reference for the subject that students are allowed to come into the classroom when class in not in session to use for homework if they so wish. If a student wishes to check out a book they are expected to check out the book using a ledger book on top of the book shelf.

Jasper Ichabod Marcs-Conroy

The worst part of being a Professor of Arithmancy was he was torn between sharing what he considered private information and finding one who was willing to help. Thankfully the new Charms 1-3 Professor had proven a quick mind in Arithmancy and very agreeable. How she ran a classroom, Jasper wondered, but she seemed to make it work. Thankfully Professor Ye had been quick to dismiss it as a big deal and even teasing him for being too evasive. As Professor Ye pointed out, Arithmancy and Prophecy was never an exact science. Jasper still had doubts on her opinion but was thankful for her quick note of her name and birthday assuring him now he owed her a birthday gift and a plant of any size would be satisfactory.

Shaking his head, Jasper looked up at his board where the constant reminder stood: "No Wands Out in this Classroom". The Syllabus was far less aggressive as it laid out the education plan for the year at each desk:

                                                        Making Predictions

There are many ways to make predictions using arithmancy. The Life Path Number is a particularly informative number that helps one tell the path their life will follow and the talents and abilities that will help you along this path.

                                                        Finding The Life Path Number

This is found using your full birth date:
                                                        Ex: 5/1/2017
Now add the sum of these numbers together.
                                                        Ex: 5+1+2+0+1+7=16
Now reduce to a single digit number:
                                                        Ex: 1+6=7
This is your life path number.

What does my Life Path Number mean?

Numbers have meaning. Your book explains the meaning of each number.

Are any numbers "better" than others?

Yes and no. Your life path number is more accurately your potential instead of a guaranteed future set in stone. However, 11/2 is considered a "Master Life Path". 22/4 is also considered "special". BUT, each path is unique and important. This is one's potential not exact future. There are plenty of 11/2s and 22/4s who have bad lives.

"Welcome to your third year of Arithmancy. I am Professor Marcs. Today we will explore making predictions using Arithmancy. Instead of boring you with introductions I thought it best to dive into the subject. Predictions in Arithmancy can be made using a Life Path Number. One of my fellow professors was kind enough to lend her birthday for this exercise," Jasper began.

"The Life Path Number is a tool in finding not only the path you are most likely to follow in life but also how your special talents and abilities may guide you down this path. First add the sum of all the numbers of your date of birth. Unless, you have an 11 or 22, further reduce the number to a single digit. This is your Life Path Number. Turn to page 387 in your text books to find a list of possible Life Path Numbers and their corresponding meanings."

"Elevens and Twenty-twos are also known as 11/2s and 22/4s are special in a way other Life Path numbers are often not seen as arithmancers and numerologists. 11/2 is considered a "Master Number" and 22/4 is considered in some degrees to be the same. Both are seen to be headed for a greater calling than most. However, there are plenty of 11/2s and 22/4s who fail to fulfill this destiny and other numbers such as 1s or 7s or any other number who achieve far greater. If you have any questions feel free to ask now. I will come around and check your calculations."

                                                        Student Textbook page 387
What your Life Path Number reveals about you?

Professor Marcs
Jasper Ichabod Marcs-Conroy

(Oxford Alumni and trained Arithmancer)(Squib)(Former University of Sydney Statistics Professor)(Arithmancy Professor)

On the board behind Jasper was his constant companion the deeply wrote words of: "No Wands Out in this Classroom". Jasper smiled grimly as his students took their seats. It was less he did not like the subject matter or his students but more he hated feeling as if he intruded into someone's else's privacy. Lola agreed to allow him to divine or work arithmancy on her name and important dates even as an example. Jasper suspected it was because Lola doubted the strength of predictions though she studied arithmancy and considered that path once. Jasper was less doubtful of the power of prediction. He was a Marcs, after all.

Once his students were situated (or enough of them), Jasper began, "Good morning class. Today we will be practicing Arithmancy on our name. Or in my case, I'm borrowing Professor Ye's name she so kindly leant me. Think of this as practice from last year when we found our Character, Heart, and Social number. If you know someone else's full name and do not feel it is an invasion of their privacy I will allow you to practice with their name."

"Remember we use all characters of the name to find the Character Number, we only use vowels to calculate the Heart Number, and we only use the consonants for one's Social Number. Once all have been solved I want you to compare and contrast this number to get a greater picture of the whole person and use this information to help predict their path in life."

"I have wrote some review using Professor Ye's name as an example."

                                                        Chalkboard
                                                        Arithmancy on a Name
                                                        Lola Mutan Ye
                                                        3 6 3 1 . 4 3 2 1 5 . 7 5

                                                        The Character Number = 3 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 5 + 7 + 5 = 40 = 4 + 0 = 4
                                                        The Heart Number = 6 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 5 = 16 = 1 + 6 = 7
                                                        The Social Number = 3 + 3 + 4 + 2 + 5 + 7 = 24 = 2 + 4 = 6

                                                        The Character Number
A Character Number of 4 indicates a person that is stable. Fours enjoy hard work and are practical, reliable and logical. They are good at organization and getting things done. They are also predictable, stubborn, suspicious, and are prone to angry outbursts. The conflicts possible in Two are doubled in Four.

                                                        The Heart Number
A Heart Number of 7 indicates a person that is perceptive, understanding and smart, Sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are serious, scholarly, and interested in mystery. Originality and imagination are ore important than money. Sevens are also pessimistic, sarcastic an insecure.

                                                        The Social Number
A Social Number of 6 indicates a person that is harmony, friendship and family life. Sixes are loyal, reliable and loving. They are good at teaching and art but are often unsuccessful in business. They are sometimes gossips and prone to complacency.

How do these numbers interact to help find your future?
Do you have repeating numbers? Ex. A Social Number and Character Number of 4. Do the traits of each number correspond? Do the traits of the numbers conflict? If your heart number and social number conflict it may be a sign you are not being true to your "real" self. The meanings and interactions of the numbers can be as endless as your own intellect and logic can take you.

"For those who have had the privilege of getting to know Professor Ye, her Character, Heart, and Social Numbers are not particularly surprising and do reflect her quite well. In the case numbers do not fit as easily or obviously, you must reflect if you are missing something or if it is truly the limitations of prophecy. Arithmancy is a tool but it is not infallible or allows you to be omniscient just like statistics. In previous years I have analyzed my mother's name and if you remember, it is fine if you do not, my mother has the same Character and Social number of 4. This means everything but her soul, if you wish to call it that, leans towards presenting as a very organized and put together though with a bit of a temper."

"Professor Ye is a more diverse individual with a Character number of 4, a Heart number of 7, and a Social number of 6. Professor Ye is, as most of you know, a practical and logical person who tends to be quite organized. I could not keep track of the plants she cares for. Socially she values harmony, friendship, and her family. She is good at teaching as well, though sixes tend to be bad at business and it is quite obvious from her past endeavors as a metal charmer she either overcame that or it never was a problem for her. And, finally, she has a heart number of a 7. Not surprising from what I've heard of Ravenclaws and Ravenclaw alumns. She is indeed scholarly as it is hard to be a professor without a passion for understanding, hard work, and originality. As you can see Professor Ye's numbers all lean towards a quieter and more serious person who is both good and intelligent."

"I ask you each to turn to page 212 in your books for referencing number meanings as I doubt you have memorized them all and use it as you work to find the Character Number, Heart Number, and Social Number of the individual you have chosen to analyze. Remember you will need their full names and you can always use your own. If you have any questions please raise your hand and I will come to you. You may begin your work."

                                                        THE MEANING OF NUMBERS

                                                        ONE
Ones are independent, focused, single-minded and determined. They set a goal and stick to it, they are leaders and inventors. Ones find it difficult to work with others and don't like to take orders. They can be self-centered, egotistical and domineering. They are often loners.

                                                        TWO
Two represents interaction, communication cooperation and balance. Twos are imaginative, creative and good natured. Peace, harmony, commitment, loyalty and fairness are common characteristics in Twos. But Two is also conflict, opposing forces and the contrasting sides of things: night and day, good and evil etc. Twos can be withdrawn, oody, self-concious and indecisive.

                                                        THREE
Three is completeness and wholeness, like past-present-future or mind-body-spirit. Three indicates talent, energy, an artistic nature, humor and social ease. Threes are commonly lucky, easy going and successful. Threes can also be unfocused, easily offended and superficial.

                                                        FOUR
Fours are stable. Fours enjoy hard work and are practical, reliable and logical. They are good at organization and getting things done. They are also predictable, stubborn, suspicious, and are prone to angry outbursts. The conflicts possible in Two are doubled in Four.

                                                        FIVE
Five is instability and imbalance, change and uncertainty. Fives are drawn to many things and commit to none. They are adventurous, energetic and willing to take risks, they enjoy travel and meeting new people but are unwilling to stay in one place. Fives can be conceited, quick-tempered and impatient.

                                                        SIX
Six is harmony, friendship and family life. Sixes are loyal, reliable and loving. They are good at teaching and art but are often unsuccessful in business. They are sometimes gossips and prone to complacency.

                                                        SEVEN
Perceptive, understanding and smart, Sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are serious, scholarly, and interested in mystery. Originality and imagination are ore important than money. Sevens are also pessimistic, sarcastic an insecure.

                                                        EIGHT
Eights are possibly successful in business, finance and politics. Eights are practical, ambitious, committed and hard working, they can also be jealous, greedy, domineering and power-hungry. Eight is the most unpredictable and are either the most successful or the worst failure. They can go either way.

                                                        NINE
Nine represents completion and achievement to the utmost. It is the complete number (3x3x3). Nines dedicate themselves to service mostly as teachers, scientists and humanitarians. Determined, they work tirelessly and are an inspiration to others, but they can be arrogant and conceited when things don't go their way.

Jasper Ichabod Marcs-Conroy

(Oxford Alumni and trained Arithmancer)(Squib)(Former University of Sydney Statistics Professor)(Arithmancy Professor)

Behind Jasper was the reminder of "No Wands Out in this Classroom". Once his students were in their seats and ready with their materials (and Jasper swore he'd throw the chalkboard eraser at any student at this point to be dumb enough to have their wand out), Jasper began the lecture, "As you may have heard me, other arithmancers, or even your book state: everything can be calculated with arithmancy. Not only people's names or birth dates can have meaning with arithmancy. Items, also, have their own character, heart, and social numbers. Obviously applying the numerology to an item is more complex but we are progressing into the more difficult aspects of the subject at this point. Difficult does not have to be drudgery, though. Difficult is a challenge that can be exciting and intriguing."

"Though in a way living, or at least bewitched to appear to be living, I have decided to work with something all of you should be familiar with: the sorting hat. Please follow me as I work through solving the Sorting Hat's character, heart, and social numbers." Jasper turned and began to solve the Sorting Hat's numbers as an example:

                                                        Chalkboard
                                                        Arithmancy on an Item
                                                        Sorting Hat
                                                        1 6 9 2 9 5 7 . 8 1 2

                                                        The Character Number = 1 + 6 + 9 + 2 + 9 + 5 + 7 + 8 + 1 + 2 = 50 = 5 + 0 = 5
                                                        The Heart Number = 6 + 9 + 1 = 16 = 1 + 6 = 7
                                                        The Social Number = 1 + 9 + 2 + 5 + 7 + 8 + 2 = 34 = 3 + 4 = 7

                                                        The Character Number
A Character Number of 5 are full of instability and imbalance, change and uncertainty. Fives are drawn to many things and commit to none. They are adventurous, energetic and willing to take risks, they enjoy travel and meeting new people but are unwilling to stay in one place. Fives can be conceited, quick-tempered and impatient.

                                                        The Heart Number
A Heart Number of 7 are perceptive, understanding and smart, Sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are serious, scholarly, and interested in mystery. Originality and imagination are more important than money. Sevens are also pessimistic, sarcastic and insecure.

                                                        The Social Number
A Social Number of 7 is the same as the heart number of 7.

Does this reflect the Sorting Hat you met as a first year?

"One of the reasons I chose an object that does have a voice is to make it easier to comprehend the use of arithmancy on the object. In all actuality you could use this method on something as small and insignificant as this piece of chalk in my hand," Jasper smiled and held up the piece of chalk before setting it on the shelf below the chalkboard. Jasper could be grim but he was happiest teaching or working.

"All of you, as students of Hogwarts, have had a personal encounter with the Sorting Hat. This is something I do not share with you. However, I want you to reflect on your encounters with the hat. Is the hat full of instability and imbalance, change and uncertainty. It decides where eleven year olds will live and make the most friends so I would say it does. Yet at its core and how it presents itself to the outside world is the hat perceptive, understanding and smart? I would argue that is the impression I do get from when I have seen it. Am I wrong in my impression? I will allow you to decide."

"I want you to choose an object... any object and solve its character number, heart number, and social number. For extra you could consider how it compares to your own or other's numbers you have solved throughout this class. For example a stool has a character number of 9 while a chair has a character number of 3. Someone with a character number of 9 might have better luck sitting in a stool than a chair and be a good deal more comfortable."

"If you have not memorized the number meanings at this point in your book, feel free to turn to page 212. You may begin your work. I will be here for any questions."

This was another lesson Jasper felt was best written out before his students arrived. Predicting the future was difficult and to do so properly in arithmancy more than one method was required. Jasper decided to focus on using a person's life path number and their character, heart, and social number. It was a rather standard calculation used by arithmancer mostly because it worked with a great deal of accuracy.

Above his notes on the board read: "No Wands Out in this Classroom".

Once his students arrived he said, "Today we will be making predictions, obviously there are a great many predictions that can be made using arithmancy but I will be going over the most popular predictions that arithmancy can make: what will be someone's future? Obviously specifics are difficult to discern but one's core fate we can usually discern. Today we will be using Professor Ye's information that she kindly allowed me to use."

                                                        Chalkboard
                                                        Arithmancy on a Name
                                                        Lola Mutan Ye

                                                        Finding The Life Path Number

This is found using your full birth date:
                                                        Ex: 5/1/2017
Now add the sum of these numbers together.
                                                        Ex: 5+1+2+0+1+7=16
Now reduce to a single digit number:
                                                        Ex: 1+6=7
This is your Professor Ye's life path number.

A Life Path number of 7 indicates a path that will lead one to study, test, and analyze everything because they can't be satisfied with anything at face value. They'll seek the meaning of existence and will always be exploring mysteries and the unexplainable to find meaning for their life. Once they've learned this lesson, they'll move on to the next phase - sharing their wisdom of the metaphysical with others. They're a born seeker - philosophical, scientific, etc. - and because of their solitary investigation of the unknown, others will seek them out for your wisdom. Career/vocation options include any job that calls for analysis, deductive reasoning, or scientific knowledge, such as teaching, or any field where they'll be allowed to study or contemplate things bigger than them.

Use critical thinking to analyze how one's character, heart, and social number interacts with their life path number and how these four numbers interact to predict a future for that person.

"As you can see Professor Ye's character and heart number reflect her scholarly and logical traits while her social shows her to be reliable and value family. Anyone who visits her office will see that much about the importance of family to her," Jasper spoke. Professor Ye had pictures displayed in her office of her entire family from Nic to Rhett to her parents (including her mother a wood nymph named Cherry). In contrast Jasper hung diplomas, certificates, and rewards without a single picture of friends and family.

Continuing, Jasper said, "Professor Ye has a life path of 7 which is a studious path where one tests and analyzes everything. Obviously, Professor Ye is further along her life path than you but we can understand easier how her life path of seeking knowledge and eventually teaching corresponds with her character and heart number - even her social number. Yes, a life path of 7 is solitary but it does not mean one does not value the family they do have and with her character number of 4 indicating her hard work and reliable nature as well as a heart number of 7 who enjoy hardwork shows that Professor Ye while valuing family, led a mostly solitary life, where she focused on innovating - the case with her charmed metal work - testing, and researching better ways to bring better products to her customers. As she became more satisfied with the knowledge she gained she moved to teaching here at Hogwarts."

"Obviously it is easier to predict a future that already happened for someone. Likely, Professor Ye will continue to teach and research in her field and perhaps others, she is skilled in arithmancy, but it is unlikely she will grow her family beyond what it currently is. She will keep close those who are currently important to her without growing much closer to anyone else."

He smiled, "Could I be wrong? Of course. Am I likely wrong? No. If you wish to find out more ask Professor Ye yourself. I am sure she would be happy to help review any charms you may question even if it is beyond third year."

"Now please begin working to solve your character, heart, social number and life path number. I will be here for any questions. If for some reason you have not memorized the numeric meanings of each, you can turn to page 212 for the general meaning of numbers and page 387 for the meaning of life path numbers."

Change is key and once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - championing freedom. You're progressive and super-resourceful, which make you equally good at many different trades. Career/vocation options include working with the public, advertising, publicity, or sales - any kind of work that calls for energizing power rather than routine. Travel is well-suited to you.

SIX (6): Your path will lead you to live responsibly at home and work to achieve balance between giving and receiving. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - sharing your wisdom of the metaphysical with others. You must learn what to do with your natural power and authority, but this is not an easy path. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - being in charge. You're a born boss and your natural power and authority cause others to look to you when a decision needs to be made. Career/vocation options include a planner, organizer, diplomat, minister, or any work that allows you to utilize your considerable talent for organizing, being efficient, and applying your practical know-how to build a dream. You command a respect and are seen as an expert in your field, destined to be a leader who is both practical and inspirational.

                                                        3 6 3 1 . 4 3 2 1 5 .

FIVE
Five is instability and imbalance, change and uncertainty. Fives are drawn to many things and commit to none. Professor Marcs
Jasper Ichabod Marcs-Conroy

(Oxford Alumni and trained Arithmancer)(Squib)(Former University of Sydney Statistics Professor)(Arithmancy Professor)

                                                        Student Textbook page 212

                                                        3 6 3 1 . 4 3 2 1 5 .

Professor Marcs
Jasper Ichabod Marcs-Conroy

(Oxford Alumni and trained Arithmancer)(Squib)(Former University of Sydney Statistics Professor)(Arithmancy Professor)
