HISTORY
Many Years Ago:

In the beginning there was originally only one tribe. Over time, the one tribe divided into four - the Lilties, the Yukes, the Clavats, and the Selkies. The Lilties were stout and physically stronger than all the other tribes. The Yukes sacrificed the strength of their physical bodies to increase their magic potential. The Clavats toiled the soil. The Selkies valued speed and stealth for underhanded purposes. Moogles and Carbuncles roamed the land as well.

Originally, there were no monsters, and despite the differences between the tribes they lived in peace in a Golden Era. The capital of this Golden Era was Rebena Te Ra. The Lady Mio, a benevolent powerful figure, was primarily responsible for the goodness of people by consuming their memories. If one accumulates too many memories, that person will dwell on the past and bear its burden. If a person forgets too much, that person will learn nothing. So she serves as a balance by nibbling on memories, encouraging people to make new ones.

One day, a meteor crashed into the earth, carrying with it the Meteor Parasite. The Meteor Parasite created Miasma, a gas that monsters thrive in, but is toxic to the tribes and moogles. The Golden Age ended abruptly as the land fell into chaos. Rebena Te Ra fell, becoming a smoldering ruin full of monsters. At this moment, from all the combined suffering, Raem was born, a sort of god opposite to Mio. Every few years, Raem devours the horrible and sad memories of the people, causing severe memory loss and even amnesia. He appears as a large golden phoenix.

It was soon discovered that Myrrh could repel the Miasma temporarily. Myrrh is the recycled memories from Mio, with warmth and light, returned to the Myrrh trees. People built large crystals to store and radiate Myrrh to protect their cities. Without it, the Miasma would overtake the town and kill everyone in it. Cities like Alfitaria, Shella and Tida began to flourish again, protecting their cities with Myrrh. However, this Myrrh only lasted for a year before the protection wore off, so Crystal Caravans had to be sent out to collect more. Three drops of Myrrh would be enought to power the crystal for another year, and these caravans used a Crystal Chalice to store the Myrrh for the journey. The Chalice could also retain the four elements (wind, earth, fire, water) in order to permeate the Miasma, and allow the caravan to advance.

Soon after, conflict between the tribes errupted, as the Lilties amassed iron from the Mine of Cathuriges to power a new empire, and the Selkies were expelled. They sought a new homeland in Conall Curach. In the end, they conquered a dragon but found nothing but the ocean at the end of their journey. They eventually settled in Leuda. The Lilties were eventually stopped by the Yukes, whose magical prowess overpowered them, along with the dwindling supply of iron from the mines. A new era of peace between the tribes began, and to celebrate, the Yukes built Veo Lu Sluice, which formed the Jegon River and turned the Fields of Fum into fertile farmland for the Clavats.

At some point, the town of Tida was destroyed because the Crystal Caravan never returned.

The Black Knight and a preacher named Hurdy set out to purge the land of Miasma, and after many years of research on the elements, discovered that the Lynari Desert hides the treasure of the fifth element, one that can penetrate all streams of Miasma. Using this, they accessed the Miasma stream to Mount Vellenge, the home of the Meteor Parasite, and nearly succeeded in killing it. However, Raem interceded and defeated the two, robbing them of their memories. The Black Knight now wanders the countryside seeking to reclaim his memories. Hurdy assumed the role of Gurdy, a charlatan who decieves his victims out of their money.

The Present:

Soon after, a caravan from Tipa sets out on a journey, taking the exact same path as the Black Knight and Hurdy did, unbeknownst to them. However, unlike the two that came before, they use their good and fond memories to defeat Raem. Raem, unable to accept defeat, possess the body of Mio, but is once again defeated. Finally, they kill the Meteor Parasite, which eliminates the Miasma forever.

Character Bios

Raem (Final boss of the Game)
The counterpart to Mio. He feeds on the memories of travelers, consuming them totally. He likes dark, painful memories, so he hides the Meteor Parasite from adventurers to foster the miasma to grow over the land, creating as many bad memories as possible. He can only be defeated by the power of strong memories.

De Nam
A Selkie with a purpose in life, this guy is the best alchemist researcher in the game. He figures out the origin of monsters, miasma, and the link between the memory loss and the crystals. He spends his time in Shella amongst the Yukes and clues the party in on most of the mysteries of the world, including how to solve these problems. Apparently he doesn't share the normal Selkie creed.

Bal Dat
The leader of the Striped Brigands, Bal Dat is a red-haired Selkie who travels the world, not for Myrrh, but for fame and fortune as a skilled thief. His band of followers is small (only three, including himself), but he's dedicated. His code of morals doesn't seem too greatly different from most Selkies, but he's the only one in the game who actually takes part in thievery of any sort.

Black Knight
A Lilty warrior trying to get back the memories of his lost family. He travels the world, mad with confusion, fighting against 'imaginary' monsters. It's said that he has the strength of 20 Lilty warriors and battles in a frenzy. At one point, he is hired by a priest named Hurdy to investigate a swamp that might have clues involving the missing memories. When the party finally comes across him, he is in the midst of finding his answer with his inner demons, before a young Lilty ends his life to avenge his father.
* Leon Esla, the Lilty who finally killed the Black Knight to avenge is father, was in fact, the Black Knight's son.

Princess Fiona
Quite possibly the prettiest character in the game, Princess Fiona is the daughter of a Lilty and a Clavat from Alfitaria. While many of the people in the game do not approve of her, she is determined to learn about the world before she accepts her duties as a princess. However, she goes about it by running away and travelling the world in disguise, much to the chagrin of her Lilty protector, Knocfelna, and his loyal dog. As a half breed, she's quite interesting, with Lilty characteristics such as flower-petal-like hair and steel-gloved arms along with a mostly-Clavat like face and body. When she returns home, she gives the party 1000 Gil each for helping her reach her conclusions.

Hurdy
A Clavat priest who travels the world in search of answers to the mysteries of the miasma and the memory loss plaguing the people of the world. He hires the Black Knight during his search of the swamp where many of the answers lie. Hurdy has mysterious relationship with the traveller Gurdy.

Artemecion
Either a crossover or simply a homage to another inky-coated moogle from Final Fantasy IX, Artemecion is the moogle member of the Striped Brigands band of thieves. He's still self-centered and accident prone, and makes a perfect addition to the incompetent team of bandits. Occasionally, this team manages to steal some fruit from the caravan.

Cecil
The Clavat Elder of Marr's Pass. He seems to think he's quite the ladies' man, despite his age. His granddaughter, Rashe, thinks he's a little senile.

Dah Vis & Mana Kohl
A Selkie couple from Leuda who form the closest thing to a crystal caravan that the port town can claim. The pair travel on foot with their chalice and spend most of their time being lazy and having fun. Occasionally, they argue over inane problems and try to get the party involved. Somehow, though, they always get the job done, and if you visit them after they've completed for the year, they'll ask you to join in on their dancing festivities, which is always fun. Dah Vis plays the instruments while Mana Kohl leads the dancing.

Jake
Jake is the Clavat leader of the caravan from the Fields of Fum, where all the world's food supply comes from. His caravan is a friendly lot who enjoy being part of their town's community and being able to protect everyone. This caravan is also more shrewd than one would first expect, and while they freely share their food, they also freely try to sell less useful items for extravagant costs. The other members of the Fum Caravan are named: Sheula (female), Lulie (female), and Andy (male).

Ji Meon & Te Odow
A pair of travelling Selkie merchants, Ji Meon is a trader and merchant, while Te Odow supports him as a money-budgeting wife. The two of them frequent every town in the game and tends to have the best prices.

Knocfelna
He is Princess Fiona's watcher and protector, but this heavily-armored Lilty spends most of the game being her search party. When she runs away, he and his loyal (and also heavily armored) dog are always right behind her, inquiring to the party as to her location. When she returns home to Alfitaria, Knocfelna resumes his position as her guardian.

Meh Gat
An aging Selkie who, along with Bal Dat and Artemecion, forms the team of the Striped Brigands, who rob and plunder unsuspecting crystal caravans. While Meh Gat doesn't seem to have his heart in all the robbing and plundering, he's loyal to Bal Dat, even if he's often asleep at the wrong time during their bungled missions. He's a brave fellow, and Bal Dat takes it hard when Meh Gat dies to save him.

Mog
Mog is your moogle party member when you play Crystal Chronicles single-player. He's the one who'll carry your chalice when you can't do it yourself, though he gets tired easily. He also likes to cast spells to help you out, depending on what color he's been painted. Apparently, moogles like to have their fur painted (and sheared). He may or may not be a crossover character from FFIX or FFVI.

Roland & Malayde
An aging Clavat couple who are the Elders of Tipa. Roland is the one who performs the ceremony to regenerate the crystal's energy with Myrrh. The couple seems to be well-informed of events that go on around the world as they always see the party off at the start of each new year with an anecdote for what to keep an eye on this time. Tipa is the default name given to the party's hometown.

Rolfwood
The Lilty leader of the caravan from Marr's Pass. They seem a bit less personable than the Lilties from Alfitaria. There are only three of them in the caravan, and they claim to be the best blacksmiths and warriors in the world. Rolfwood lets the party know that town Lilties from Marr's Pass and city Lilties from Alfitaria don't get along very well. The other members of the caravan are named: Leuts Royle (this is the talkative one), and Lyne Dott.

Sol Racht
A brave and noble Lilty warrior who leads the caravan from Alfitaria. While he's a nice enough guy, he seems pretty prejudiced that only Lilties can handle themselves in a battle, and will give the party healing items whenever there aren't any Lilties around. His primary quest is to find and subdue the Black Knight, though his team finds time to collect Myrrh, too.

Stiltzkin
A moogle who travels the world in search of the answers behind the miasma... and his own existance. Stiltzkin wonders, "If moogles can remain unaffected by the miasma like monsters, then does that mean that moogles are monsters?" His search takes him through the whole world and he ends up in Mag Mell, investigating the strange occurrences there. He's also a good teacher for battle, and the party can make use of his wisdom. Stiltzkin is almost certainly a crossover character, with the same name, clothing, design, and characteristics as the Stiltzkin that appears in Final Fantasy 9.

Bios for Amidatty and Gurdy are in the churhes and temple dedicated to them
Mio is in the story at the top of the page

PLACES
Alfritaria
The Great Capital City of the region holds all sorts of races and different shops, owned by Gi Lubeh and Jona Esla, who has a troubled son - Leon Esla - who assumes his Father was killed by the Black Knight.

Conall Curach
A historical place for the Selkies, who once marched through this swamp searching for a home. At the end they slayed a dragon and found the ocean. Now they live on a desert island, but a Dragon Zombie now lives in the Conall Curach, and he guards the Myrrh Tree.

Daemons Court
A home for Lizardmen. There is a small river here that trails all the way down to the Conall Curach. One can use the catapults in this circus-like area to find the two keys to the only room in the area. This room brings you the Myrrh Tree but also the Lizardman King, who likes to use big weapons and traps.

Fields of Fum
Mainly a Clavat town. A farmer's village radiating a peaceful atmosphere. An old man named Morris sells cows here and you can also bet on cow races. Other than that, Fum is known for its great food. Go to Nina for some provisions. You can also occasionally find Gi Lubeh from Alfitaria here.

Goblin Wall
A newly built fort for Goblins, built around the Myrrh Tree so it is in the Goblin King's main room.

Jegon River
The great river separating most of the East from the West, Tristan the ferryman will gladly allow you to cross it on his boat for a small price.

Leuda
Leuda, the city of Selkies, found on the Lynari Island. Don't let its bad reputation put you off as you will visit this place many times. Karl Linay and Beh Aou both have shops here. The chief of the Selkie tribe is in fact not a Selkie herself, but a survivor from Tida.

Lynari Desert
The great Lynari Desert contains many monsters such as the cactuar and antlion. A preacher gives you a riddle based on this area and there is said to be a great treasure hidden somewhere. Maybe it's just the Myrrh Tree?

Mag Mell
The legendary village of the Carbuncles. When you arrive in Mag Mell you will not see very much activity because the Carbuncles are sleeping, as they have been for several thousands of years.

Marrs Pass
An aging crystal village that used to be the Lilties' pride. Known for its blacksmiths, Nat Dennim and his rival, Arneaux.

Mines of Cathuriges
Old Mines that the Lilties of Marrs Pass would work in, but now they are inhabited by monsters, mainly Orcs and their King, who guards the Myrrh Tree.

Moschet Manor
Jack Moschet, lord of the Gigas, and his wife Maggie live together here with a great army of Tonberry Chefs. There are many rare books and documents in their library and a Myrrh Tree is hidden in there somewhere.

Mount Kilinda
A small island with a monstorous active volcano. Habited by only monsters adapted to the blazing enviroment. Near the top of the volcano you will most likely find Iron Giant, whose difficulty depends on whether his Goblin slaves successfully delivered him all of his greatswords. At the top is yet another Myrrh Tree.

Mount Vellenge
The great mountain to the very north of the world. This area is where it all started: where the meteor parasite landed and covered the world in Miasma, where the Doors of Recollection can be found, and where Raem along with Mio await.

Mushroom Forest
A forest made out of giant mushrooms. The only tree here is a Myrrh Tree guarded by the Malboro.

Port Tipa
A waterfront satellite of the village of Tipa. Tristan the Ferryman often has his boat there that can be used to travel across the Jegon River or to Lynari Island and Mount Kilanda for a small price.

Rebena Te Ra
Very old ancient ruins. Now it is only home to monsters who have created many puzzles to slow you down in your search for the Myrrh Tree. If you do find the tree then you also find the Lich, a great spirit who draws immortality from orbs.

River Belle Path
An old road that no-one dares walk these days or they will promptly be eaten by a monster. Only caravaners walk the old road now to obtain a drop of Myrrh from the Myrrh Tree, guarded by the Giant Crab.

Selepation Cave
Rumor has it this cave is where wind itself comes from. Using the crystals to create sequences trigger certain effects and the built-in lifts. Caravaners navigate through this mysterious cave to the end where the Cave Worm awaits, protecting the Myrrh Tree.

Shella
Hidden Village of the Yuke. To enter the mysterious town you must bring a mark of shella, found in the Sluice. This is the only place in all the world where you can find an accessory blacksmith - Spiran.

Tida
A Crystal Village, until one day the Crystal Caravan of Tida left for Myrrh and never returned. The village and its inhabitants slowly withered away and died or became monsters. A Myrrh Tree is found here, past Armstrong. What used to be the great house of the Armstrong family has now mutated into a monster.

Tipa
A small village with a crystal, not unlike Tida, to the south of the world. Inhabited by Moogles, Clavats, Yukes and Selkies. No matter how many years pass, the mayor will always be Roland.

Veo Lu Sluice
A small Area that uses Pumpflowers to pump water from the Jegon River into the pools and geysers here. In one year the Jegon River dries up. The Veo Lu Sluice dries up with it and the Pumpflower must be brought back to life

FAMILY JOBS
Alchemist
In Crystal Chronicles, scrolls are needed to create items and equipment. The alchemist's job is to create these scrolls. Once a year, the alchemist will produce a scroll for a character. The alchemist's ability to create better scrolls is dependent on how good of a relationship the character has with him. The alchemist job seems best suited to the Yuke race, as many Yuke characters in the story tend to be alchemists. Amidatty and most of the residents of Shella are examples of this. There is one Selkie alchemist named De Nam.

Blacksmith
The Blacksmith's ability is to forge weapons and armor if given the correct materials. To create better weapons and armor, a better relationship level with the Blacksmith is needed. Also, the Blacksmith's son or daughter can get a 30%, 55%, or 65% discount depending on their relationship. The blacksmith job seems most suited to the Lilty race - story-wise, they are continually considered the best blacksmiths in the world.

Farmer
The Farmer family's ability is to grow seeds of any type to give to the Crystal Caravan. They can grow Striped Apples, Rainbow Grapes, Cherry Clusters, Gourd Potatoes, Round Corn, and Star Carrots. Additionally, if given a Wheat seed, they can supply Bannock Bread and Wheat bundles. Storywise, Clavats are the designated farmers of the game, overseeing the world's food supply in the fields of Fum.

Fisherman
The Fisherman's ability is to catch fish for the Crystal Caravan. Once a year, fish will be given out, the amount determined by how good the relationship with the Fisherman. The Fisherman's family also tends to have the most enthusiastic younger siblings. Storywise, Selkies live on a diet primarily composed of fish, and the only fishermen seen in the game are Selkies.

Merchant
The Merchant's ability is to sell items. This job has been around since the first Final Fantasy, only this time you can choose it as your family's job! The merchant's item selection gets better as a character's relationship with the merchant increases. Being the Merchant's kid can net you a 30%, 55%, or 65% discount, depending on how much he loves you. Storywise, there is a pair of Selkies that travel throughout the world as merchants, though really, any race can be suited to the Merchant job.

Miller
The Miller's family is quite possibly the poorest family in the game. The Miller's ability is to take wheat seeds and make Bannock Bread. Occasionally, other family members will offer the Crystal Caravan bags of Flour. The amount of Bannock Bread received varies with how good of a relationship a character has with the Miller. Other than the family in the hometown of Tipa, there are no Millers in the game - but it's safe to assume that Clavats are most probable for the job. An interesting side note, Amidatty, the Yuke leader of the Shella Caravan, has a strange fascination with Bannock bread.

Rancher
The Rancher's ability is to provide meat for the Crystal Caravan. Once a year, depending on the character's relationship with the Rancher, he will supply a greater or lesser amount of meat. If he receives a cow from the fields of Fum, he will also provide milk to the party. The Rancher's family likes to offer up anecdotes about their children riding around on cows when they were babies and the youngest family member has a crisis on whether cows are better 'cute' or 'tasty'. Storywise, Lilties or Clavats suit this profession well.

Tailor
The Tailor's ability is to craft accessories when given the right materials. Accessories function in a variety of ways, such as elemental/physical protection, status-enhancing, etc. The Tailor's ability to make better accessories increases with the relationship between the character and the Tailor. The Tailor's son or daughter can receive a 30%, 55%, or 65% discount depending on their relationship. In the story of the game, pretty much any race would suit the Tailor occupation, but the best tailors are the Yukes in Shella and the Lilties in Alfitaria.

Doesn't change that my fanfiction now lacks sense and moral...

I forgive you I suppose...

::Sighs::

This sucks, I've already sent Hurdy off with the Black Knight...

Gurdy went missing just before then...

The main girl Kikuchi is off searching for Gurdy, thinking he's still out there... Now Bal Dat is the only possible boy in the story available to be her supposed crush if you will...

::Sighs yet again::

What the heck am I supposed to do to turn this around? Call it a split personality problem? She's head over heals for a pink wearing Clavat who isn't really a real person!!!

I've made too many fan arts and chapters to this fic to just let it die...

cry

It's not that easy after what I've read...

I've always been a huge supposed "-Urdy twin" fan...

They're not twins?

That's what the fiction states, well, what Gurdy said to Kikuchi anyways...

Now that I think about it, its not that big a change I guess...

But I haven't a clue how to explain how Gurdy came to be met before Hurdy...

He can't change personalities like so until after the Raem situation...

That's what I can't think of how to solve...
