Tottaly not finished yet. gonk

But, oh well, I'm stuck. There's just something missing besides adding details to the hair...( Which I don't know how to do...) and all that... Um... Any kind of help would be appreciated. heart

She has a very masculine chin. Other than that I've got nothin'. What'd you use to color that?

Between the usual color for painting anime, but towards the yellow side. Then, I used black on diferent opacities for the shadows. Then, smudge all the way.

The thing is, her face looks a little long. But what can I say, you did something I can't even do. It looks good, but thats my only problem.

Maybe make her neck a bit thinner as well, it makes for a more feminine look... biggrin

Nice work! As for the neck and chin comments... well, you're trying for realism, and realistically women's necks don't look that much thinner compared to men's necks. Something you might want to do, though, is fluff up her hair a little more, especially on the left-hand side. It's a little flat, and makes the head look a little odd.

I would prolly make the eye also slightly bigger. Not much, but now it looks very small compared to the rest of the face.

It looks great! it's up to you but people's skin isn't that smooth. If in photoshop, you could use some noise to make that effect?

Hmm...she has no ears and it's bothering me...it looks pretty good otherwise though. Yeah, the face does look a little long...still pretty good though.

Actually I did some research on anatomy and women often do have smaller necks than men.
Anyways, I think the face seems a bit long because you put the nose to low, which makes the bridge and face seem longer. I don't think the eyes will need to be bigger if you do that, it should match the proportions of her other facial features better. The neck really does need to be thinner. Also, I think to add femininity to her chin, make it more slender and a bit more pointed if you can. It looks kind of boxy the way it is now so you should try to make more egg shaped if you can. (like the tip of an egg, not the really round part)
If you wanted to add another touch of realism you could also try adding lower eyelashes and ears. Her hair also needs to be more voluminous. Oh and, even though this doesn't apply to all girls, most girls have a bigger bottom lip than top. And the top lip has more shade cast on it than the bottom does. (it protrudes out from the nose at a slant so it has more shade)

I hope you find my criticism to be helpful. Sorry if I come off as a bit harsh. I tend to notice imperfections too easily since I'm a bit of a perfectionist myself. sweatdrop

Not really adding much to what has already been said, but I'll give a few suggestions for APS (which I assume you're using). If you having problems getting the facial features straight I'd suggest either: A.) Fleshing out the main lines on paper-- I can't tell, but it looks like you made this all in your coloring program?; B.) Rotate your canvas a few degrees counter clockwise to get it straight vertically. It'll help you get a better grasp on the features. From what I'm seeing both the mouth and the nose are a bit crooked.

Next: To make the eye patch a bit more realistic you may want to try some texture filters to make it appear cloth or leather, whatever material you plan to make it appear as. Also, pay attention to the part where the string meets the patch, add shading to that area. Very small details are usually what make realistic pieces look... realistic... lol Oh-- the shading under the string may need to be pulled up a bit. Just from looking at it it makes it appear as if the cheek sinks in a bit.

Finally: Try using some gradients. Gradients are a very easy way to add some light shading/highlighting here and there over large spaces. For shading I'd suggest not using black, but a step down in color as the actual color. Like... say you're using a tan for the main color, I'd choose a darker color of tan for shading. Same thing for highlighting; if I were using tan for the actual color of the object, for the highlighting I'd use a lighter color of tan.

The eye and actual texture of the lips looks very nice. It's coming along. =) Post an update when you get a little more done. I'd like to see where it goes.
