OK, now the Fundies are really starting to scare the living shitsticks out of me. Probably because I happen to live in the state these nutjobs have targeted for invasion.

http://www.christianexodus.com/

Christian Exodus is a website is run by Cory Burnell, leader of a group of hyperconservative, "persecuted" Christians who are apparently planning to populate South Carolina and secede from the union.

It's another one of those groups run by people who interpret "freedom of religion" to mean "freedom to impose my religion on you and everyone else whether you like it or not."

While they claim to be operating under their Constitutional rights, their mission seems to be a cleverly disguised quest to follow Donald Rumsfeld, Rick Santorum, and many others in their attempts to promote the use of the Constitution for target practice and, ultimately, as a good old-fashioned roll of Puritan toilet paper.

I honestly hope this turns out to be nothing more than a clever work of satire. But, given the fact that there are many people who do think like this, the chances aren't very good.

Huh.

Some people just want that badly to be oppressed, I suppose.

Oh, boo-hoo. The United States is removing itself gradually from the scope of religion. (Not that it was founded out of religious conviction anyway.) This is sad, this is really, truly sad. If absolutely EVERYTHING does not adhere to the Bible for these people, it's like all hell is breaking loose.

"Unborn babies are subject to slaughter by abortionists and their own mothers under any pretext whatsoever."

Call anything "slaughter" and it looks like your side is the righteous one. Although I will concede that abortion should not be used as a form of birth control, it's hardly murder.

"Christians are denied their rights to free speech, freedom of the press, the display of religious monuments, and other expressions of faith in the public sphere."

Since ******** when?!

"Men, women, and children are involuntarily exposed to the corrupting influences of homosexuality, pornography, and other perversities protected and financed by the national government."

Yeah, but the national government has something called "tolerance".

"Our schools continue to teach the discredited theory of Darwinian evolution."

A theory is not discredited because the Bible says otherwise. The Bible is the reason these people thought the world was flat, and that the sun revolved around it.

"Citizens are taxed without their consent in ways that are unjust, unreasonable, and contrary to the public welfare."

If the majority wanted those taxes, then you have to pay them too. Majority-favored democracy is the entire basis of our Constitution. This is not news.

Yes, unfortunately. Seems that most Fundies get off on the idea that they're being persecuted, as if actual persecution would do anything to make their position any more righteous or acceptable.

Maybe they're operating under the "emo kid" principle and want a little sympathy. Or maybe a hug. But they won't get it from me.

Is it, possibly, a spoof site? It looks like they are trying a little to hard... stare

Does it matter? They are not going to get anywhere. At the most they'll try to isolate themselves, try to set up thier own area, and later on end up with a confrontation with the police, get slapped with "Tax evasion" and then all will be over.

But I doub't very many people will be seduced by such a site or idea. Come on...90% of people may be unconscious...but they are not that stupid.

Hmm...

Still. Don't ever underestimate the power of fools rallied en masse.

Based on what I read...the site is full of utter...garbage? Yes, I'll be nice and just say garbage. Yes, fools rallied in masse can cause trouble, but take a look at one Fred Phelps to see that as a rule people, at least Americas, tend to shun radicals and radical view-points. They can mouth off, but while you can grab a person by the ear, you can't force them to listen.

That site is radical...and....enough said? The site is trying to hard, and that is what it's down-fall really is. I still think it might be a spoof site.

Ergh...

I'm not inclined to agree that it is a spoof. It's just ridiculous enough to warrant heckling, but just complex enough to warrant some degree of reality.

I have family in the South and the Midwest who wholeheartedly believe everything on this site. That thinking's been around for decades, especially on Christian AM band radio stations.

I knew about this site about two years ago... first reaction was "Are you serious?" and then I read more and more on the site and I really truly think they are serious.

My boyfriend at the time (now ex) was all into this site, he wanted to participate...

What I find funny about this whole thing is the fact that they'll have a nation roughly the size of Rhode Island to themselves, but that means they'll all be gathering for enemies of Christianity to launch an attack on them without involving the United States.

What I want to know is what they're gonna call this new nation.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they called it Zion. Or Disneyland Plus Jesus.

The whole situation is indeed odd, because it sounds to me an awful lot like an alarm for Manifest Destiny to begin again.

Just be glad we're not dealing with Catholics here. If that were the case, then SC would be overflowing in a couple of generations.
