If you guys can have a talk now and again, and she is your lab partner, and she lives in the USA, she should not have too many problems with comminucating with you in English, ne? But aside from that, my personal recommendation is, if you really, REALLY like her, as in, if you seriously think she's "the one", blah blah blah, and you really want to go out with her, then yeah, course, go ahead and learn some Chinese! It's going to be hard, and it'll need some commitment... I mean, as a Chinese girl myself, I find Chinese tricky. sweatdrop But if there are plenty other fish in the sea, and you most probably will move on from this, then I don't think you should. If you want to imprrove your general knowledge, then of course, learning Chinese would be a good thing, especially with China growing at such a fast rate and overcoming the USA sooner or later. But my advice is, if you're not THAT into her, then... don't bother if you can't be bothered. But I think, if you really like her and do go learn some Chinese, she may find that really touching. 3nodding As a girl, I probably would, that a guy went to such lengths. I also recommend learning not just the language, but more about the culture, ya know? I do find there are plenty of differences, being what I am - feeling half Chinese, half English, gah... So yep, do your best whatever the case. And keep trying; don't just freak out cause she gave you an odd look. You may have misinterpreted it. 3nodding As long as you're not too overbearing, then... she should get it. And if she returns those feelings, you should be fine!
