A Dangerous Game

Daniel flicked a piece of person off of his shoulder and shivered, continuing to walk. "Dad wants me to go to University of Pennsylvania. I'm supposed to check out the campus next month, but I don't know." He stared forward, uncertainty on his face.

"What, you don't like it? Or did you want to go somewhere else?" he asked. His parents were more asking him where he wanted to go. He had his own senior jitters, but was interested in studying medicine and be a doctor. It seemed to be a family thing, after all.

"I don't care either way. It's just..." He trailed off, then stopped once they hit the entrance. Looking to Julian, he thought for a minute before speaking. "Julian, I don't want to be apart from you. I don't think, you know, that you could get into UPenn."

"What?" Julian blinked then looked down. "That's... I mean, they've got a good medical school but... but that's a real big deal. That's Ivy League. I-I don't know if I'd even make the cut," he said, having not even considered following Daniel to college. His original plan was to go to a college near him. A school that prestigious would eat him alive!

Daniel sighed, knowing he'd messed up and said it wrong. "Julian, come on. You don't want to go there anyway. B-but I'd be fine following you wherever you go. I don't want us to be apart if we don't have to be."

"No, hang on," Julian insisted. "I don't know about my grades, but my mom's sure to be able to have connections there. Maybe I can get there."

"What if he can't?" asked the teen quietly.

"Then he'll either kill them and find someone who can, or I'll go to the school closest to you," Julian smiled. "We'll find a way to make things work."

He almost smiled. "Are you sure?"

"Of course," Julian smirked. "If a gang boss can't separate us then college sure as hell won't. Who knows? Maybe I'll just skip college entirely and stalk you. That'll be just as good." He laughed lightly then looked through the rear window. Fox wasn't anywhere to be seen. Would he follow them even in a car?

"Okay, maybe let's not skip college," he laughed, pulling out of the asylum's parking lot.

During the drive back, Julian gazed out the window. If he stared hard enough he could catch glimpses of trees shaking from rapid movement followed by blurs. Fox was surprisingly keeping up with them, yet still keeping his distance in the trees. It was a relief to the brunette, he was afraid Fox would make a break for it as soon as he got the chance. Maybe that's why Decius picked him as the pet instead of anyone else.
Daniel's phone shook and rang with a call from Charlotte.

Glancing down at his phone, Daniel sighed. He looked at the screen on the car, pressing TALK. "Hey, what's up?" he greeted, silently grateful for the hands-free technology.

"I need you to do a hit for me," Charlotte answered.
"Jeez, no hello or anything?" Julian griped. He paused then turned pale as silence was answered, practically feeling her glare at him.
"This paper I'm writing is becoming bothersome. I won't have any time to take care of my hit later tonight. Can you do it?"

He looked out the window for a minute, then sighed. "I guess. It depends on the hit. How much am I getting?" He wouldn't budge for anything less than 65%, which was generous.
