The Great Defiance

Miles thought for a second, crushing out the first half of his cigarette. "I suppose you could say that. Not exactly the term I would use for it. You know that feeling where you're half asleep? It's like that; Only I'm half dead," He explained, motioning to Kraid.
Kraid waved, flashing his skeleton grin.  

[Faithful Fire]

"I couldn't care less about your life,"Shea told him."The fact that I hate smoking comes from the fact that my home was burned down."  

[[Z_]]

Miles burst into laughter, placing one arm across his stomach and the other hand against his mouth. "Weren't you the one," Miles laughed, shaking his head. "Who tried to light me on fire several times already?" He laughed harder.
Kraid too smirked, playing with the tips of his fingers.  

[Faithful Fire]

"That was him," Shea said, pointing at Kanji."I wouldn't be traveling with him if I hadn't saved his life. Because of that, he owes me a life debt."  

[[Z_]]

"Maybe I can help you out with that," Kraid grinned, rising from his chair. "That is, if you hate him so much."  

[Faithful Fire]

"I never said I hated him," She said."He can be annoying sometimes, but he's a good companion."  

[[Z_]]

"You are just a walking contradiction," Kraid muttered, lifting his weapon
Miles stood as well, fastening his weapon to his back. "Let's get this show on the road," he spoke, stepping to his brother.
Avin adjusted their robes, flipping through their book.  

[Faithful Fire]

"If I'm a walking contradiction, what does that make you?" Shea asked.  

[[Z_]]

"That makes us the voice of reason," Avin replied, grinning as they placed a fresh cigarette between their teeth. They struck a match and lit the end of the paper, inhaling deeply as they left the building. "Are you two coming or not? We haven't got all night."

Shea buckled on his sword and swung his quiver into place on his back."Since when can the dead be the voice of reason?" He asked, following Avin.

Erik smiled. "Being dead, I can answer: It's because we have our whole lives behind us. In my case, I have a few behind me."

"And besides," Avin added to Erik's observation. "What've we got to lose?" They grinned, exhaling smoke.

"Your head if you aren't careful," Shea said to Avin."I thought you weren't actually dead." The last part was aimed at Eric.

Erik chuckled. "Dead, yet Undying. It's the will of the Gods."  

[[Z_]]

" Life's a b***h, and then you don't die," Avin joked, turning down the city streets. They thought to themselves, turning their saddened blue eyes towards the sky.
