He's like a megalomaniacal Jesus, essentially. According to prophecy, he will subvert the Church through guile and charisma and cause it to spread through immoral means until the world is polarised into those who are easily bought over by false promise and those who stand by God to resist him. Then Jesus comes in glory and the two have a big anime-style duel. With dragons and temptresses falling into fire and so on
