And yet when the market met at the top of the mountain, this totoma was all too keen on finding herself a sand dog, a familiar not suited for cooler temps usually. But they were hardy little things. Up and up trekked the totoma until she saw the stall with the vendor of furry round canines. Just one look, she was smitten. As soon as she opened her mouth, an avalanche befell the market. The crowd scattered and signs and stalls were upturn in the mad dash to safety. The totoma found herself buried and alone. Little by little you eeked out a tunnel and when she heard likewise scratching, she veered off course to find a lost soul. Serendipity and all that jazz, the totoma and sand dog endured for days through the mounds of snow, icy terrain and steep slopes to what would be their new home. One foot or hoof in front of the other, the totoma preserves her steely calm, confidence and ambition in the face of crisis and comes out better for it. For when all hope is lost, there is nothing left living for.

It wasn't a perfect solution, or even an especially smart idea given the dangers of nightfall, but so far it was the only thing that worked. When the moon hit the sky at just the right point was when she moved, sneaking through the rustling grass and brush as quietly as she could.
Gathering food by the moonlight, in the hopes she'd help provide an easy meal for the other Totoma in her area, might have been fool-hardy if she encountered any other hungry creatures in the darkness. But stalking the shadows, for stalks of sweet grass, while the competition slept had worked thus far.. and surely would continue to work, as long as she kept herself silent through the effort.
