"I'm sorry Sephos, I would never have asked you to come along if I'd known this game was going to include so much fire and terror." Nucleo apologized. He hadn't thought the obstacle course would include mental endurance tests. He could feel himself losing to it.

"..." Sephos wasn't sure what to say to that. On the one hand, he would have like to never do this, ever. On the other hand, Nucleo shouldn't have had to do it alone. "It's okay." he said carefully. After all, now he understood what Panili was saying a little more. And he guessed that experiences were... good? Maku certainly thought so.

He just wanted to be out of there, though.

"I promised."

They were going to get through.

"Newcleo? What's going on? You've been really quiet." Nucleo asked, starting to wonder what was going on. Newcleo was holding Sephos's hand, not Nucleo's, and so it was hard for him to monitor someone he couldn't feel, hear, or see. He was starting to feel worried.

It really was quiet. Sephos couldn't even hear the slight static of the speakers, or the flames, or the clang of metal. Or, for that matter, the thud of his feet. It was oddly quiet. Peaceful, almost, until he felt the slap of salty sea air, cool after the heat of the dome.

"What happened?" he asked Newcleo. He was afraid to open his eyes. He wasn't sure what he might see... or if he wanted to come out of the nice cool darkness of his eyelids at all.

"Open your eyes."

Nucleo opened his eyes and squinted at the sudden light. They were... outside? Looking around, he saw the fire dome behind them and froze. Wait, that couldn't be right! He was sure there had been some obstacles on those monitors that they hadn't done yet! They-

"It's okay." Newcleo smiled at his master, seeming to already have read his internal struggle. Glancing over to Sephos's confused face, the clone chuckled.

"Newcleo, what's going on?" Nucleo's voice was calm but tense.

"I... I was going to lead you out. But I saw a service door. And... you were both really upset." Newcleo began, looking a little fearful that they'd be mad at him. It would hurt but also be justified so he was prepared to take whatever words and feelings they threw at him.

"I couldn't subject you to any more of that. This was supposed to be just a game, right?" Newcleo continued. "Well games are supposed to be fun and you two weren't having any."

"But we said we'd finish the race with you-" Nucleo cut in, angry at being denied the chance to do right by his clone,

"It's alright. I'm... I'm already this happy we even got that far." Newcleo smiled, not bothering to hide the tears welling up.

"You've been trying so hard to make it without me these days. So I'm sorry that I barged my way in-" The clone continued. Nucleo frowned, not understanding his words. What did he mean? There was so much about his powers he still didn't know. Nucleo clenched his fists at his inability to understand.

"What I'm trying to say is... this was more than enough. Thank you."

"Newcleo-"

"Don't forget about me, okay?" He smiled one last time before reaching over to take Nucleo's hand. A mist of green smoke appeared and Newcleo was gone, leaving only a limp scarf on Sephos's leg and another question in Nucleo's eyes.
