Rikka smiled sadly. "Maybe you shouldn't have flirted with her just to make someone else angry?" She picked at her fingernails. "I don't think Kaen hates him... I think she just doesn't have much experience in dating... She seems ok with friends but not around flirting boys..." Rikka blushed a bit more. "I think you should just try to talk to Jasna... Just as a friend, not trying to ask her out." ~ Kaen walked through the halls and glared at anyone who looked her way. She sighed as she opened the door to her class. She was late by ten minutes. Ash looked up and smiled. "Why hello! I suppose you're the girl named Kaen?" Blaze sat in the back, he'd been thinking about how to appoligize to Kaen for acting stupid. He shrank back in his seat when he saw her come in. Kaen looked at the teacher oddly. "Yeah..." Ash's smile widened. "Well, you're late but it's your first day so I'll let you off the coals." Kaen smirked slightly. "Well thank you. I guess I was a little tired and didn't notice the time."

Burner laughed. "Maybe.... If she ever stops swearing at me long enough for me to talk to her... God. I'm an idiot. I do like Jasna, but... her first impression of me was being a jackass." ~ The teacher walked over to Jasna and said, "Show the class how to grow vines, Jasna." He set a bin full of dirt in front of her. "Show me!" Jasna sighed and grew a simple vine. The teacher scoffed. "Is that all you've got?" Jasna rolled her eyes and the teacher moved on to the other students. She sighed and closed her eyes. ~ Litha decided to make the lesson stick for Amelie and threatened to burn her hair if she decided not to cooperate. Amelie scooted as far away from Litha as possible and tried to listen to the teacher.

Rikka smiled a bit. "Then, change her mind. Agree that you were acting silly and just talk. When she starts to warm up, then you can be a little more open with your feelings for her." She looked up at the clock on the wall. "Oh! I'm late!!" She smiled and bowed. "I'm sorry, I have to go." Then she turned and dashed off to her class, Earth. ~ Kaen kinda liked this teacher. Ash didn't scowl at her or threaten her with more detention for being late. Kaen walked to the back and, without noticing, sat next to Blaze. Blaze had propped up his textbook and hid his face as Kaen walked over. He blushed a deep scarlet and tried to breathe properly. Kaen gave him an odd look, but couldn't see his face. Eventually she just shook her head and listened to Ash. Blaze clenched his fist and thought fast. She thinks I'm an idiot and won't listen... I can't rely on Burner because I went and became a jackass for trying to fight him... I'll have to talk to her eventually.... Well, Ash used to say 'There's no time like the present'.... Blaze took a deep breath and put the textbook on the table quietly. Kaen turned slightly to see what he was doing and froze. She looked angry, embarrassed, and confused, all at the same time. Blaze clenched his fist under the desk. "Hi, Kaen..." She turned away from him and looked at the teacher, avoiding his gaze. Blaze sighed. "I'm an a*****e. I know. I'm a complete dumbass and I deserve nothing more than to be iced or burned into oblivion..." Kaen watched him through the corner of her eye. "Go on." Blaze blushed a little brighter. "You're an amazing fire-weilder, the hottest girl I've ever seen, and the best fighter I've ever fought... Even though you were holding back..." He put his hand over his face. "I'm just another idiot who can't mind his own damn business and had to start trouble..." Kaen sighed and sat back, relaxing her tense position. "You're right, you're an idiot, but I'm not the hottest or the best fighter and you're not an a*****e, just annoying." Blaze looked up at her. Kaen looked away. "I've been being a b***h to keep others away. For some reason, oblivious to me, you don't seem perturbed about that. If I had to say anything to correct you, you're more like me than I'd care to admit." She closed her eyes and sighed. "I just don't care to be sucked into a relationship. I have far too much to deal with as is." Blaze looked at his hand, the one that had been slightly burned during their fight. "You're hotter than anyone I've met... And you are the best fighter I've ever fought..." Kaen picked up one of her notebooks and started writing. "I'm not going to ask you to keep your distance, we share too many classes for that, but I don't want to have to hear someone badgering me all day." Blaze nodded. Kaen finished writing and tore the page out of her note book. She folded it and handed it to Blaze. "Don't open it until after school, ok?" Blaze nodded again. "Can I ask one more question before I end up being treated as a lost dog?" Kaen nodded slightly. Blaze took another deep breath. "What were you really talking to Burner for?" Kaen twitched slightly. "I was making him a deal... I wanted him to subtlely tell you to calm down and knock it off with the flirting. In exchange, I'm helping him with Jasna, who, I know, likes him but won't admit it..." Blaze hung his head. "I'm more of a dumbass than I thought." Kaen sighed. "No, I'm just good at hiding things."

Burner noticed how late he was and decided to just go to Air. When he got to the classroom, everyone was still milling about. The teacher noticed him and handed him two detention slips. Burner sighed and sat down and began practice whirlwinds. ~ Jasna closed her eyes and thought about more pleasant things than Earth class. She wondered where Rikka, Kaen and Frost were. She hoped that Burner was getting his a** kicked in some other class by the teacher. I mean, he could be a nice guy, but he just doesn't try to be. He is cute, but not nice, and therefore so not worth it.

Rikka walked up to the door and saw she was fifteen minutes late. "Oh..." She blushed but tried to calm down before going into the class. Once her blush faded, she took a deep breath and opened the door. Naturally, the teacher had to stop and examine her, along with half the class. Rikka felt her face heat up again. "I-I'm Rikka... I'm sorry I'm late...." The teacher sighed and pulled a detention slip from his pocket. "Congratulations, you've just won a ticket to join our resident delinquents. Have a seat next to Ms. Prain." Rikka walked over to Jasna and sat down. "Hi..." ~ Blaze watched Kaen witth a depressed expression. She tried to avoid his gaze. Ash walked up to kaen and smiled. "Excuse me. I heard from a little hummingbird that you can control both blue fire and the manipulation of shape. Could you please show me?" Kaen snapped her fingers and summoned the small flame. She shaped it quickly and artfully into a hummingbird. She made it flutter it's wings and sent it around the room. Ash clapped. "Why that was fantastic, Kaen! Your skill is astounding! Have you trained under another fire master?" Kaen shook her head. "I've always had a strong affinity with fire." Ash smiled. "Well, I have to say, you're an excellent fire-user. Your name is very interesting, was it given to you at birth?" Kaen nodded. "I was always a vibrant kid, like a flame, or so I'm told, so they gave me a name that meant flame. When I lived at home I didn't like it much though." Ash put her finger to the side of her face, lost in thought. "Well, I let the students change themselves. If they don't like their name or have a favorite nickname, I call them by it, if they want me to, as well." Kaen smirked. "So the teacher's are allowing nicknames?" Ash smiled. "Some do, they're the funner teachers. Usually the good advanced classes have a fun teacher. Do you have a favorite nickname, Kaen?" Kaen laughed lightly. "Nah. I got over my distaste for my name, it suits me now."

Jasna looked up at Rikka. "Hey. Is this the worst class ever or what?" ~ Litha spent the class glaring at Amelie. Amelie, being more apt at Fire Alchemy than Litha, threatened to create a mock-pyroclastic flow stay permanently in Litha's room. This was no idle threat. Amelie was an accomplished air and earth alchemist. Her earth was on par with Litha's but her air was better. Amelie grabbed Litha's arm and said, "If you DARE threaten me again... I can always challenge you to a duel. I'm a better all-around duelist than you. You'll lose." Litha glared and said, "You wish, b***h." ~ The teacher yelled, "Okay, class! Settle down, now." The students rolled eyes but sat down. The teacher said, "Now who'd like to demonstrate a small-scale tornado type wind?" A girl in the back of the room demonstrated. "Burner, would you like to show us how to do a hurricane type wind." Burner glowered. "It's more or less the same thing as a tornado though, isn't it?" The teacher handed him another detention slip. The girls around the room gasped. They twittered, "Burner got detention. Oh, my." Burner sighed and demonstrated as best he could. The teacher laughed cruelly. "That was FAIL, Michael." He moved on to pick on another student. Burner sat at his desk in a foul mood.

Rikka smiled shyly. "Well, I guess it's not the best. I'm more comfortable in the water classes." She sat quietly and picked at her fingers. "Um... Jasna? Why do you dislike Burner? I know he made a bad first impression... But I didn't exactly have a good first impression of Frost either..." ~ Frost sat boredly listening to the teacher ramble about fire and the combustion control. He started to zone out and think about Rikka. He remembered Burner's accidental walk-in. Frost sighed and ran a hand through his short spiky hair. "I'm having a better time than him... He's chosen one hell of a date this time... Jasna should give him a chance to explain, atleast..." He heard a giggle and turned to see a girl looking straight at him. She hid behind a texbook and continued giggling. Frost turned to face the front and saw the teacher had walked up. The teacher put a match on the desk. "Frost. Please demonstrate on how to make a basic fireball. Unless you'd like to continue flirting?" Frost held up his hands. "No flirting here sir. I turned to see what was so funny." The teacher glanced at the girl. "Tanya. Must I have you go to the principal to see to a solution to this problem? Or perhaps the nurse? You seem to laugh quite a bit." Tanya blushed a deep red. ~ Blaze looked at Kaen in both surprise and awe. I didn't know she didn't like her name... She seemed to really like it in our first class... She's still hot and twice as cool... Ash smirked a bit, noticing Blaze's look. "Well, I'm glad we talked. Thank you for that wonderful demonstration, Kaen." She walked back to the front and pulled some candles from under her desk. "We're going into heat and color control. I want everyone to practice making a flame that starts red, then turns, in sequence, orange, yellow, green if you can, blue and finally white. I'm giving you til the end of class." She handed out the candles and walked through the class to observe the students' work. Kaen mentally punched herself. Crap! Color manipulation on the first day?! I'm never going to get this flame yellow! Yet alone orange or red!! Kaen sighed. Blaze looked at her expression and read it wrong. "What? This is too easy for you? We're not all experts on blue fire." Kaen shook her head and faced him. "I can't make my flame any colder. I've always manipulated blue fire. I can't get it to turn yellow, yet alone orange or red..." She turned away and sighed again. "You're lucky. I have control over blue fire, but only blue. I feel like I'm being cheated out of learning to control it.... Maybe it has to do with my temper..." She looked sadly at another girl who was trying hard to turn the flame yellow. Blaze blinked a few times. "Uh... I... didn't know..." He didn't continue. Kaen sighed and set fire to the wick of the candle. It burned a bright blue. "See? Even if I leave it, it's too hot to turn another color..." Blaze looked at his candle and summoned his little red flame. "I think it's cool. And I don't think it has to do with your temper... Can you turn it white?" He lit his candle and put his hands around the flame. Kaen nodded. "Heating things up are easy for me. Cooling them off is what ruins my skill..." Blaze turned his flame orange, then yellow. "I don't know how to turn it green... I've never gotten the flames past yellow..." Kaen looked at the flame and smirked. "Too bad we can't just mix the flames like paint, we'd both have green flames." Blaze gave her a surprised look. "I wonder..." He took Kaen's candle, at her loud protest, and set the flames on each other. They both sparked and turned a bright emerald green. "Woah..." Kaen looked surprised. "How'd you- What'd- Why-" She didn't know how to finish her unasked questions. Ash walked over and smiled. "Nice teamwork. You two should work together more often." She walked over to another team who'd managed to get their flames yellow. Kaen and Blaze were still surprised that the mixing actually worked. Kaen regained her voice. "How'd that happen?" Blaze shook his head. "I don't know. I didn't even know that was possible..." He stared as the flames both cooled back to yellow. Kaen put her hand near the flames and they both turned green again. "Weird..."

Jasna gaped at Rikka. "You're kidding me right? That a*****e? I mean, aside from good looks, he's got nothing. No depth, nothing. I remember... dumping my first boyfriend a few months ago... His name was Jack. He was the hottest guy in my neighborhood. I liked him for his looks. Then he proved that there was nothing below the surface. There's no way I'm falling for another guy like that ever again. If Michael had been nice originally, maybe I might have really like him. But he was showing off to some girl. Her name was like Erin or something. A cheerleader. Pretty, willowy, blond. I'm not that shallow. He is, but not me. Michael and Erin deserve each other. Even though he says they broke up, I know she dumped him because Cron asked her out." ~ Burner's neighbor reached over and poked him. He looked up. "Oh, hey Thorn." Thorn laughed, "Hey Burner." His friends nicknamed him Thorn because he was so bad at Earth Alchemy. "Dude, which girl are you dating now?" Burner said, "New girl. You don't know her yet. I'll introduce you to her later." Thorn replied, "That's good... Good. I saw 'new girl' earlier. She's hot. But I think she's your type." Burner rolled his eyes. "You saw Kaen, not Jasna. I'll introduce you later." Thorn whispered, "Whatever." ~ Amelie laughed quietly. "You'll LOSE. I can guarantee it. After dinner. Front lawn. Deal? Whoever wins gets Burner." Litha narrowed her eyes. "Fine by me. Rules? Oh, wait, I get to decide the rules. You can only use two elements. I choose... Air and Water." Amelie laughed. "Mine are Air and Earth. Since we both chose Air, I guess this makes it a Water v. Earth match doesn't it?" Litha glared. "No, not completely. I can create water cyclones and hurricane-force winds, but you can only create tornadoes." Amelie laughed quietly. "We'll see."

Rikka flinched back. "I talked to him... He's not that bad... He said he felt badly about the flirting thing...." She wasn't lying, he did say he felt bad. Rikka picked at her fingers, avoiding Jasna's stare. "Maybe you should try to be friends? I mean, you could still say no to anything he says... But I think you're just judging the cover of the book, Jasna. You should get to know him before you just say he's all looks." She opened her textbook and read the page quickly. "I mean, it can't hurt to try to get to know him. If at the worst, you can just tell him to buzz off or go bug someone else...." She blushed slightly. "I'd be anyone's friend before judging them..." ~ Kaen played with the flame, turning it blue, and then white. Blaze struggled to change his own flame's color. Kaen sighed and waved her hand over the fire, changing it to a bright blue and then a pale white. "Guess teamwork'll work for now." Ash walked over and smiled at their progress. "I'm so sorry, Kaen, but I need someone to run this over to the earth alchemy class and you seem done, along with Blaze." She handed Kaen a small box. "Please try not to open it, it's a demonstration of fire-earth alchemy that the teacher had been wanting for a while." She smiled brightly. Kaen nodded. "I was just finishing up." She stood up and walked quickly to the earth alchemy class. She sighed before knocking lightly on the door. ~ Frost used the teacher's innattention to summon a small fireball and making it grow to a larger fireball with air alchemy. "There, sir." The teacher looked down and gaped like a fish for about two seconds. He snapped his mouth shut and nodded. "Well, that's a fine fireball, Frost. Congrats on being better than average." The teacher still looked surprised, but tried to hide it. "I want you all to start reading the text on page 35 and practice summoning without a match or rune."

Jasna laughed. "I will never like that a*****e. Trust me. Maybe there's more than looks, but that's all he cares about, so I'm never doing that again. It'll be too much like Jack. I dumped Jack, but I really did like him before that. I used to never judge people. I do it now because... it saves me a lot of pain afterward." ~ Thorn couldn't pay attention so he kicked Burner and said, "Seriously, dude. Who's 'new girl'?" Burner rolled his eyes and said, "I'll introduce you. Later. Now shut up if you don't want me to permanently bind your arm with vines. I'm good at Earth, and you know it. That will be painful." Thorn turned scarlet and shut up. He thought to himself, Burner, I know you're lying, so who the hell is this b***h? ~ The teacher noticed Litha and Amelie whispering in the back of the room and said, "Girls, since you seem so absorbed in talking to each other, have you heard any of today's lesson? Litha, I'm especially ashamed of you! You could have learned a great deal from today's lesson. Show me what you've learned, girls." Litha rolled her eyes and painstakingly created a fireball the size of a cherry while holding a rune behind her back so the teacher couldn't see. The teacher glared and handed Litha a detention slip. Amelie rolled her eyes as well, but managed to create a successful fireball a decent size without cheating in the slightest way. The teacher smiled and said, "See class? This is what I want from you."

Rikka sighed faintly. "I still think you should try being friends. You two aren't that bad when Burner's not flirting..." She practically buried her nose in the textbook, trying to avoid looking at Jasna to see if she was angry or not. ~ Kaen growled when the earth teacher ignored her. "Fine. EXPRESS DELIVERY!!!" She threw a fireball at the door, hard enough to knock it off it's hinges and throw it a few feet toward the center of the room. Kaen yawned and held up the box. "You know, it's rude to keep a girl waiting." She stepped over the busted door and handed the box to the teacher. She looked bored, even though she practically scared the crap out of the weaker students, until she saw Burner sitting among the students. She smirked and waved slightly before stepping back outside. "Remember, don't keep a lady waiting." ~ Frost didn't use a rune or a match but made the fireball quickly. It was standard sized and he held it so it wouldn't burn the desk. "Boo... This is boring..." He dowsed the flame and sighed. "Wish Rikka was here..." ~ Blaze flicked his fingers absently, summoning and banishing the small flame. He thought about Kaen and snapped them again, but it turned slightly blue. He was startled that his flame went blue, but it turned yellow a second later. Ash silently watched Blaze, she was surprised he was practicing without a candle. Blaze banished the flame and tried again. It turned a bright yellow, but it didn't go blue. He sighed as he tried again, losing his train of thought and drifting toward thoughts of Kaen again. The flame went bright blue. Blaze stared with shock at the small blue flame. "Huh?" He tried one more time, focusing on his thoughts of how he felt. He thought about how carefree Kaen seemed when she first walked into their first class. The flame burned a bright blue, turning white. He stared at the tiny flame in shock as it burned itself out. "Never done that before..."

((Kaen couldn't have seen Burner because he's in Air, not Earth...)) Jasna felt frustrated. "But there isn't a time when Burner doesn't flirt. I guess he could be a nice guy... but he doesn't ever give a damn enough to try!" ~ Thorn grabbed Burner's arm again and whispered, "Dude, come on! I want to know who this girl is. Is she like Erin?" Burner shook his head, "Not like Erin at all. This girl has brown hair.' Thorn rolled his eyes. "You know what I mean." Burner laughed quietly. "She's not a cheerleader, and she doesn't hang over people all the time. Satisfy you?" Thorn frowned. "Why would you like a girl like that?" Burner glared. "Why shouldn't I?" ~ Litha frowned at Amelie behind the teacher's back. "Don't show off." Amelie laughed and replied, "If I can do something well, don't be jealous." {OH! Sorry, I meant Air....} Rikka sighed softly. "Just give him one chance. If he disappoints you, then just do what you're doing right now. Ignore him and complain to get it off your chest." She felt odd giving advice, she would usually just be quiet and agree with what someone said. Rikka sighed again and changed the subject so that Jasna would give the idea a thought. "I want to talk to Kaen, but I'm not sure if she's still acting weird about the fight..." ~ Kaen walked quickly back to her class. Blaze smiled but didn't wave or make it obvious that he was glad she was back. Ash smiled as she continued checking the other students' progress. Blaze's smile grew when Kaen sat down. "I just learned something." Kaen looked at him with a slight expression of surprise. "And what'd you learn?" Blaze snapped his fingers and turned the tiny red flame to a bright blue. "I just learned how to do it!" He smiled proudly. Kaen clapped lightly, she was really surprised. "Wow.... Congrats... How'd you do it?" Blaze's smile fell a bit. "Well... I... Uh... Sorta started thinking about some stuff and it turned blue..." He blushed slightly. Kaen noticed the blush. "And what were you thinking about?" Her tone matched the expression on her face, she was instantly suspicious. Blaze threw up his hands, snuffing out the flame. "Hey, hey! I swear, I was just lost in thought when I figured it out..." Kaen drummed her fingers, conveying that the answer wasn't the right one. "The thought." Blaze sighed. "I was thinking about you... I was just thinking about how we were working together..." He backed up a bit. "I swear! Nothing else." Kaen stopped drumming her fingers and sighed. "Fine. Blatant honesty is easy to spot. You're telling the truth... For now." She turned away and snapped her own fingers. The blue flame burned brightly in the air. "I don't know how to cool off this flame... It's always been blue." Blaze reached over and put his hand near the flame. Kaen briefly contemplated burning him, but shook her head at the thought. The flame started turning a blue-green. Kaen stared in shock. Blaze strained, trying to cool off the flame. It turned a bright green, then a pale yellow-green. "It's working... I think..." Kaen kept her hand near the base of the flame. It turned yellow. "That's...." She didn't finish. Blaze strained again, turning the flame orange. Kaen took a deep breath and tried to cool off the flame as well. The small flame turned red. Kaen stared in shock. "How did..." Blaze sat back and smiled. The flame stayed red. "That's teamwork."

Jasna smiled at what Rikka said. She didn't quite believe that what Rikka said was true, but she said, "All right. I'll give him a week to try to step up and be a real man. As for Kaen... It's not that she really hates him... it's just that Blaze can be a bit frustrating... I doubt she's still angry though. She seems like the kind of person who gets mad easily, but at the same time, is placated easily as well." ~ Thorn had watched Kaen and now whispered to Burner, "Dude, that's not your chick? She's the one I saw earlier." Burner rolled his eyes. "I told you, you saw Kaen. She's Kaen. There are 3 new girls today. Kaen, Rikka and Jasna. Jasna's the one I'm going to introduce to you. Rikka and Kaen are friends of mine, and if you hit on either, it's too late. They're both taken. Blaze wants Kaen and Frost is more or less dating Rikka." Thorn frowned skeptically but said, "If you say so..." ~ Amelie looked around the classroom and whispered to Litha, "Aren't there like 3 or 4 new girls today? Where are they?" Litha glowered and said, "Jasna, Rikka and Kaen. The worst problem is Jasna. She's kinda short-tempered, but a nice girl. And Burner likes her, of all people. Seriously? Erin was better for him. I was before Erin... But anyway, Jasna's not good news. I'd be her friend, and I'm pretending it, except that Burner likes her. Ugh!" Amelie looked bemused for a second, then laughed. "You're jealous of a new girl? Seriously?"

Rikka nodded. She felt happy that Jasna was going to give Burner his chance. "Maybe Kaen will help me then. I want to ask her a few questions..." ~ Frost stared boredly at the clock. He had about twenty more minutes of boredom. The girl kept giggling at him when the teacher's back was turned. Frost sighed, he didn't get it. ~ Kaen banashed the red flame and resummoned it. It stayed red. Blaze's smile grew. Kaen looked at him, still in shock. "How the hell did you do that?" Blaze chuckled. "I just concentrated on cooling off the flame. I could never get the fire to higher than a yellow, and you kept saying you couldn't get yours down past blue. The mixing thing worked on the candles, so I guessed it would work the same way." He smiled proudly. Kaen banished the flame. "Huh. Guess I've learned more than I thought I would." She looked at the clock. Blaze's smile fell a bit. To him, Kaen sounded like she'd planned on being completely on her own and learning as little as possible. "Uh... You ok?" Kaen turned and looked at Blaze. "Yeah. Why?" Blaze turned away. "N-no reason..." Kaen sighed as she picked up her textbook. She flipped through the pages and skimmed through several chapters. Blaze turned to see she was avoiding his gaze. "I..." Kaen turned her head slightly. Blaze sighed. "I was wondering... Would you..." He paused and shook his head. "Nevermind. I'm starting to go back to my idiot mode." He practically shoved his nose in the book as he waited for Kaen to look away again. She just sighed. "Like I said. Read that note after class." She sounded odd again. Ash walked up and smiled. "Ms. Kaen! You have an exciting way of delivering things. I'm glad you got the box to the Air teacher but next time, try not to set the door on fire." She smiled, clearly meaning it as a joke. Kaen made a face. "Yeah.... Sorry about that. The teacher wouldn't come to the door so I had to find a way to open it..." Kaen didn't blush, but looked like she would have.
