Well, this had been a fairly...educational outing, he supposed. Was this what this whole clan cat life was about? Danger and hostility and throwing yourself into the fray over little things like kittens? Wonderful.
Made him long briefly for when life was easier and all he had to worry about was besting that uppity she-cat in the next showing--
Noise, panic, the acrid smell of terror in the air...even the former show cat was seized by fear, if not understanding, of the danger they suddenly found themselves in. He was not one of the first to rush into battle, of course, hanging back to try and take in what the heck was happening. The...fox, was it called? The fox was vicious, batting cats away like sand flies, and for a time he could only look on in horror.
Shadedancer strutted along after the other Lightningclan cats with a swift, determined step. She was frustrated that she had missed her chance to join in the pummeling that cowardly loner cat had received. Figured he'd run before she could even get her paws dirty. Hmmph. Another day maybe.
Or maybe that day was today after all.
Even though she paused to watch the initial exchange with the strange creature, her eyes lit up, not with fear, but excitement. Now she could test her claws in a real battle! With a deep growl, the great shadowy she-cat took off like a blur towards the fox, striking out with her claws!
A blur of shadow passed him, shaking Sandburr from his thoughts. Shade--? Well, even another former show cat was getting into the action. From what he'd seen already, this creature, this fox thing, was a serious threat. It was taking on this many trained Warriors and batting them away effortlessly....and if they failed, then even those who weren't fighting...
He swallowed hard, flexing his claws in the dirt before he started moving towards the fray. Now or never, champion, time to show 'em what you got!
Sandburr: 47 - Die 1 Shadedancer: 27 - Die 2

The patrol along the border had been far less eventful, a welcome respite and Wildstripe had just been foolishly starting to believe that the excitement was over for the day.
The messenger was gone again before he could utter a word and after blinking at the spot the orange tom had stood, Wildstripe turned to Wildflower, Russetstorm, and the growling apprentice. With a respectful deference to the Deputy, he asked, "Well, what now? Clearly, they're not expecting our help, nor could we give it if we wanted to." The thought bothered him more than he allowed himself to show. While his clan would always come first, once that too had been his clan. He still had those he considered friends there, and while their ways had parted, he certainly would not have wished this misfortune on them.
At the same time, unless Lightningclan dealt with the danger, it could very well be heading their way next. And Riverclan, while possessing some powerful Warriors, did not have the numbers that Lightning did.
"The message needs to be taken back to Riverclan and Shadowstar. The question is, do we all go, or does someone stay here and keep an eye on the border?" He focused on Wildflower, waiting for orders. It would be her call.

Wildflower hissed after the tom ran off but turned to Wildstripe and laughed. "Clearly our help is not wanted. What with all those kittypets around to help..." she snorted, lashing her tail, glancing one last time over the border before shrugging. "Let them die. The fox will be sated on their bodies for a long while. Still." she paused and glanced at the small gathering of cats still with her.
"Russetstorm, take Owlpaw and fetch Shadowstar. Wildstripe, Rabbitpaw, I want you two to stay with me. Shadowstar's original orders still stand. We'll enforce our border and keep watch if those Kittypet lovers can't handle the fox and it comes running back this way for its... 'kit'." she spat again, growling, claws digging into the earth. A message from Starclan for a Forestclan camp, a fox raising a kitten? What kind of hair brained mad times were they living in? Shaking her head, she glanced down at her apprentice and managed a grin. "You ready to show me what you've learned Rabbitpaw?"
Russetstorm nodded, tail lashing the air equally as much. "Seems foolish to think they can handle it on their own. Though I suppose a warning is welcome." he sighed, shaking his head. "Owlpaw, lets go." he called to his apprentice before darting off.
Russetstorm scented out Shadowstar, slowing to a halt as they approached her. "Shadowstar!" he called, tail high, glancing just to make sure Owlpaw was still right with him. "Word from Lightningclan at the border just as you left. Seems a fox stumbled into their area looking for a 'kit' and they think this kit might be the kitten we just took in. They requested no reinforcements but if the fox flees it very well could be coming for Riverclan. Wildflower, Wildstripe and Rabbitpaw are still at the border keeping watch." he informed, breathing heavily from the run but doing his best to remain alert and astute in front of the she-cat.

Rabbitpaw's eye were as large as the moon at the commotion that broke out. She was frozen in place listening to everything the Warriors around her were saying. A fox? She'd never seen a fox in person before! A part of her was both thrilled and freaking out. What stance did you use to attack a fox!?
She nodded madly at her Mentor when her orders were given. She stood ready at the edge, peering into the depths of Lightningclan's territory as if she'd be able to make the fox and its battle materialize before her. She just needed to know the stance!
"Uh, yes ma'am." she sounded unsure, but her posture was alert.
---
Silentblaze and Swiftfoot hadn't made their way away from the border just yet. They had hung back to watch and wait. Once the other cats had cleared out Swiftfoot got on his paws and made his way to the border. He sat a bit off from the group just far enough to be on his own, but close enough to still listen in. He stared into the other side with a small smirk on his lips just waiting. It was only a matter of time before the fox came this way, right? And when it did, she'd get a taste of his claws.
Silentblaze, on the other hand, remained at a distance. Her large ears could pick up sounds off in the distance and it made her tail twitch nervously. A fox was not a matter to take lightly. She listened for awhile before slowly making her own way up beside the group, sitting beside Wildstripe, "This is some nasty business, foxes I mean." Her voice was soft, thanks to the sensitivities of her ears, "Has anyone fought a fox before?"

Owlpaw almost jumped when his name was called. Looking at Wildflower, he listened to the order before turning his eyes to Russetstorm. He didn't need to be told twice! Spinning in his spot he took off after Russetstorm hot on his heels. There was a moment when he looked back to his sister before keeping his eyes forward.
Sniffing the air as he ran, Owlpaw tried to work out how Russetstormknew where to go.
Once they got to the leader and Foxfur, he had the feeling they interrupted a scolding.
Jumping forward, he nodded as fiercely as he could to reinforce Russetstorm's message.
Forestclan preserve her! That's all they needed a fox that thinks the kit is hers. She nodded, "Thank you, Russetstorm, and Owlpaw of course. Wildflower is right, not one paw over." A sunrise ago Shadowstar would have been the first one to rush to Brightstar's aid.
"Foxfur..." the shecat hesitated for a good minute working out trusting the message before swallowing and accepting she had no choice, "Foxfur, go back to camp immediately. Warn the clan, tell any brave enough to meet us at the border. We need to be ready to repel the fox should it come looking. I want that kit's scent gone, make sure Flamedapple loses the scent too. They are your responsibility!" Looking to Russetstorm, she ended with one order, "Russetstorm, I want you and Owlpaw to search for the kit's scent. Make sure it's gone. That fox will not be led to our camp. After that, meet me at the border. Owlpaw is your call." Russetstorm would know best if the apprentice was ready to fight.
No doubt Fawnbriar would be there to protect her kits. Shadowstar took off, back the way she came to guard the border.

Silverstreak was heartbroken, she had tried to get her clan to see sense, but they also had a point, this was a fox, a predator .... but she also seemed to be the kit's mother and fox or not, at least the foul smelling creature was trying to be a good heart by raising one not of her own species, raising the kit instead of making a meal of it. She prayed to Starclan that the fox would forgive her for this but when she saw Froststrike get hit and Brightstar's command, she couldn't help her paws, "I'm sorry" she cried, vision blurred again as she jumped into the attack finally, the internal battle winning out for her clan, as she launched at the Fox beside her mate,

Honeyfur was in the camp, quickly going his inventory, knowing that cats would arrive back soon to be seen.

Fawnpebble paced back and forth, guarding the campsite. He would be here to protect Nettleglow, Duskkit, Dawnkit, and everyone else who were not capable of fighting. He worried though, for Bouldertuft, who was on the battlefield. "He's going to gloat that he received a new scar." The tom joked, trying to stay calm.
