User ImageFern giggled softly when Cheria mentioned the others having a difficult time with her nephews. “I see. So you couldn’t get them to sleep last night. Oka and Panthe aren’t too bad; they usually wake up at the crack of dawn like their Papa. Oka is all cute and floppy but Panthe puts up a fuss no matter what time it is. I’m sure everyone is doing their best to get them ready for the wedding. It is a bit hard for them to understand what it’s all about, though” she smiled, “But Oka and Panthe are excited. They know something is happening. Panthe asked me yesterday about ‘Auntie Cherrie’s Big Party’” she laughed, the affection apparent in her voice. “Saberlin and I have been trying to explain it to them. We figured a party was sort of something they can relate to more”

Fern returned the hug happily, giddy with excitement for her sister-in-law and her soon to be brother-in-law. “I’m honoured to be your maid of honour” she grinned, “And planning the wedding was fun, you know I never would have missed that. And thank you” her cheeks pinkened faintly at the words of gratitude. She knew how much Cheria appreciated her; though she hadn’t done it for any thanks. Still, it was nice to be acknowledged all the same.

Fern waited outside the folding screen while Cheria went to get dressed, ready to help her with any fiddly bits like laces or buttons. “Sure, here it is” She grabbed the dress and carefully moved it towards Cheria’s clawed hand, “Be careful not to tear it with your claws. Oh, and I have your bag here. We had better not forget that”

She went over to a small side table and picked up the small clutch bag that was made from the same material as the dress. It contained tissues, a tiny vial of Cheria’s perfume, a powder case, the lipstick she was wearing that day and a few other bits and pieces for any touch-ups that might need seeing to throughout the day.

***

Silaeca smiled at the flower and took it gently from the boy to place in her hair, tongue flickering between her lips with an amused hiss. “Sss…so it is. Thank you. What colour is this flower, Caleb? Do you know what kind it is?” taking the opportunity while he was distracted, she finished dressing him in his outfit. It matched the one his brother was wearing.

Silaeca combed a stray bit of his hair back into place with her fingers and plucked another stem from the vase…this time one that had a flower on it. She pinned the white rose to his clothing. “There, now you look positively dashing, little lion cub”

Silaeca was herself wearing a flowing tunic style blouse with long sleeves for the affair, embroidered with purple that matched the royal colours in the ball room, and an ornamental hair pin in her hair. She picked up Caleb and turned to search for Iouya, who had Luke dressed already and had sat him atop his shoulders. “Iouya, are we all ready? We should go and find Master Harcourt and the others”

Iouya grinned at Luke and chuckled as he was poked in the cheek. “Oi, mind the pointed claw tip, now. I can’t turn up to the wedding with holes in me cheeks. Nope me wee mate, we’re gonna go find Me today! She’s waiting somewhere downstairs for us. Now, upsy-daisy, ya needa keep a good look-out for me and tell me when you spot her, mmkay?”

He lifted Luke up onto his shoulders so he’d be able to see from a higher vantage point, settling him carefully between the set of velvet black bat wings. Iouya had been around the cats long enough that he also knew that they felt more comfortable in high places, able to observe what was going on, so if there were lots of people around, this would help Luke feel calmer.

He smiled at Silaeca as she slithered up, one hand carefully holding Luke’s ankle so he wouldn’t fall and the other giving her a playful salute. “Ready and set, milady, just gotta meet up with Kuloka; he’s got Panthe and Oka while Saberlin went with James down to the ballroom…er, wedding venue” he laughed. Iouya was looking rather handsome himself in a black satin vest, white shirt with black cuffs and black trousers, the only hints of colour being a winking blue earring in one of his pointed black ears, alternately blue and purple painted claws…and blue and purple streaks through his coal coloured hair…goodness knows how in the world the cheeky flying fox had managed that.

They went to meet up with Iouya’s son at the top of the grand staircase on the ground floor, the arranged meeting place. Not only was Kuloka there holding a wriggling Panthe and Oka, but Iouya’s grin brightened at the sight of his wife and younger son, who had travelled from their home not far from the mansion, (a gift from Saberlin’s parents since Umber had not wanted to live in the mansion, preferring to live near her own parents).

“Umber, Wallum, you made it!” He walked over and kissed his wife’s cheek; she was a different type of bat known as ‘spectacled’ flying fox, though of course half human like Iouya. Her silky straight auburn hair was left down apart from a braid that went around the top of her hair, intertwined with a purple ribbon. Her wings were more of a dark reddish brown than Iouya’s black and her skin was a deep bronze-brown. The little boy clinging to the purple folds of her period style dress while standing beside her peeked out and stared at Luke up on Iouya’s shoulders, his little ears quivering. “Hello Daddy”

Wallum looked about seven or eight, with the same spiky hair as the other male members of his family.

***

Tweaking her husband’s long ear by way of tugging his earring, Umber replied “Of course we made it, you’ve been ranting on about this wedding for months. We almost had nightmares” but her eyes glittered when she spoke, belying her teasing spirit.

“Wallum, lovey, don’t stare, it’s not polite” this directed at her younger son who was gaping wide-eyed at the leopard and lion-leopard children. He’d never got to meet them before.

Umber swept his long bangs in front of his eyes with a flick of her clawed fingers, giggling softly.

Now all everyone had to do was go down to the ballroom, where the reception was to be held, and find Saberlin and James.

Cheria gently grasped her dress and slipped it on. "Fern, could you help me by buttoning up the back for me?" She wiggled a bit and giggled. "Hehe, that tickles!" Her tail waved in the from all the excitement. After she was buttoned, she sat down on a chair to put on the period-style ballet flat shoes. The veil was postitioned on her head (between the ears of course . wink ) and the bouquet of flowers were ready in their vase. Cheria stared at the flowers for what seemed like 10 minutes. "I can't believe this. I'm marrying the man I love in a few short minutes." She turned to Fern. "Was like that when you married my brother?"
***

Luke tugged at Iouya's hair. "M'Ouya?" He pointed to Umber, his eyes wide. His eyes dated to Wallum, and he wiggled to get down. Caleb followed suit, only he slipped down a bit. He extended his claws and tried to slip all the way down Silaeca's body so he could meet Iouya's other son.
James tugged at his shirt. "Are you sure, Saberlin?" His hair was smooth, but not slicked back. He tugged anxiously at his shirt, brushing off invisible specks of dirt and shifting from one foot to the other. He eyed the capchaun, mulling over some thoughts in his head.

((What in the world is a capchaun? I even Googled it and I still have no idea. I’m thinking you meant
chaplain, or celebrant or priest or…something similar))

“Sure” Fern obligingly helped do up the pearl buttons that dotted the back of Cheria’s gown. She tried to steady her hands that were shaking from excitement, accidentally tickling the bride with her fumbling.

“Oo, sorry! I’m not trying to tickle you” she apologised with a wince, finishing up the last button and making sure none were done up to the wrong holes. Task complete, she stepped back to admire, watching Cheria put on her shoes. “It looks just as lovely at the back as it does from the front” Fern enthused. “Here, let me…”

Grabbing a cushion, she placed it on the floor and kneeled at Cheria’s feet, helping her with the ribbon ties that held the ballet flats in place. Once they were on, she also helped to make sure the veil sat properly in Cheria’s hair and that it wouldn’t fall out, pinning bobby pins discreetly where they were needed.

Fern waited while Cheria took a moment to compose herself. She too stared at the flowers, trying to control her own nerves with slow, deep breaths. She could understand how monumental an occasion it was for her sister, especially knowing the background between her and James the past few years. Fern and Saberlin had both been praying for the two and it seemed that their prayers had been answered. Now Fern knew the months of planning had all been worth it. She couldn’t be happier for them.

She laughed softly at Cheria’s comment, “I know! I’m so glad! I guess you had better believe it because it really is happening and I’m so glad! Oh, I can’t stop saying that” Fern beamed, tapping her cheek with her palm in a mock-slap; a futile attempt to get herself to stop repeating the phrase.

Her gaze drifted towards the ceiling thoughtfully when Cheria asked her about her own wedding. “Well… there were some differences. I think I was a lot more nervous. My parents didn’t really approve but they came anyway. There were media involved as well. I don’t know. I think the nerves and the excitement were probably still the same” she smiled, eyes shining as she looked back at Cheria. “You’re lucky to have a private wedding though” She got to her feet.

“Come now, I think it’s time we go down to the venue. You’re almost on” she walked over and held open the door so Cheria could get through it with her skirts.

***

Iouya cringed as his hair was pulled but made no move to disentangle Luke’s hands. “Ow, that is attached to my head, you know. Oh, ya want me to look at something, ‘kay” Iouya followed with his eyes where Luke’s chubby little finger was pointing. He smield when he saw what Luke was pointing to and patted the kiddo’s knee. “That’s my wife, Umber. She’s a bat, just like me. She’s Wal’s mama…I mean, Me. Here, let’s say g’day” He crouched and lifted Luke down so he could meet the shy bat boy.

***

Wallum finished shaking his hair back out of his eyes. He looked up and spotted Luke with a gasp.

Using a wing to cover half his body, he attempted to hide the other half in the skirt of his mother’s dress, peeking out at the leopard boy.

“Um…h’lo” he mumbled quickly, a friendly tone mixed with the timid. Wal may have been shy but he was far from a snob.

***

Iouya straightened up and greeted Umber with a hug and a peck on the cheek. “I think everyone’s ready. You wanna head down?” he motioned towards the ballroom with his thumb. “You look gorgeous, by the way. Try not to outshine the bride”

“Yes, we’re going to be late so let’s get a move on” Umber swatted her husband playfully, “Oh you! I’d never dream of it”

***

Silaeca’s breath hitched at the feel of claws scraping down her body and she quickly remedied the situation. Serpentine coils shifted in one fluid motion as she lifted her glittering red tail and wrapped it around Caleb’s waist, gently lifting him down to set him beside his brother. She didn’t want her clothes torn to shreds or scratch marks on her skin when she turned up in the ball room. “Okay, sss, you may say hello too, but be quick, we have to go”

She watched Iouya’s youngest son as he stared between Caleb and Luke several times before Umber gave him a nudge with her wing. Wallum stepped forward and bowed awkwardly, greeting the twins with another mumble.

***

Panthe squirmed around in her pretty satin, flower maid dress, wanting to get down and play. Caleb and Luke were allowed down so now she should be too! She pushed at Kuloka with her arms and legs, twisting her body this way and that.

***

Oka merely wished to get away from Panthe now. She wouldn’t stop wriggling and kicking him. He attempted to climb up Kuloka’s wing to get to his shoulder, out of reach, his tiny coat tails brushing the bat's long ear.

***

“Look this is all very nice and formal but can we head down now? I don’t think I can hold them much longer!” Kuloka interrupted everyone with a tone of desperation. Panthe and Oka were wriggling and squirming so much he was being climbed and clawed like a tree. He had one arm holding Oka by the trousers as the leopard boy hung over his shoulder and was sort of bent trying to hold Panthe on his knee with one arm but she was doing her best to slip down.

That was enough to send everyone on their way. No one wanted to end up all ragged from chasing runaway toddlers around the mansion.

They headed downstairs, waiting for their turn to enter the hall.

Panthe was given the basket of flowers to hold just before she would enter, and Caleb was handed the cushion with the rings on it, while the nannies and other adults made sure all the children kept quiet, didn't try to eat the flowers or the rings and their outfits stayed in place.

***

Saberlin smiled and nodded, leaning forward to tug the red tunic back into place so it looked tidy. “Of course I am. You look fine; positively dashing! I wouldn’t let you go and make a fool of yourself at your own wedding” Though he was certain Cheria would marry him even if James did do that.

The ushers had handed out programs as the guests filtered in and now everyone was seated. Saberlin and James had already left the dressing room and were waiting in a small room off the ballroom, ready to enter the hall. “All right, it’s time for you to go stand next to the altar and wait for Cheria’s entrance. I’ve had the ushers ascertain that there are no wrinkles in the carpet; it’s completely smooth so there’s nothing for you to trip over, except your own tail. Try not to do that” he chuckled. Only Saberlin would make sure there was a completely smooth carpet.

“Now, after you enter, the bridesmaids and groomsmen will follow but I’m going to escort Cheria, so I shall be last” he continued, nudging James towards the open door, “Go get ‘em Jaguar”

((I sent you an email with what it looked like. smile And it's the red one.))

James gave Saberlin a half smile and then strode down the carpet. His parents had yet to appear. The feather in his capachuan (hat) playfully bounced and swayed as he strode confidently down to the alter. He could do this, he could do this! There, he made it. He turned as rehearsed so that he was looking up the aisle.

***

Luke gaped at Wallum, his eyes huge. "Hi!" He sidled up to him and grasped the young bat boy's hand, feeling safe with him. He kept his claws sheathed, even when Panthe accidentally stepped on his foot.
Caleb cradled the pillow after being told that the rings were VERY important and he mustn't lose them. He batted Oka's hand gently away from the pillow. "No, 'Ka. 'Ery 'portant."

***

Chera picked up her skirts and edged her way through the door. She didn't want anyone to see, not just yet anyways. "Oh wait! The garter! I forgot about the garter!" Cheria went back into the room and put on the garter on her left leg. Finally, she came back out, and breathed a sigh of relief. "Now we can go. Thank you Fern for remembering my bouquet." Cheria took her bouquet and smiled. "This is it! The end of one journey, and the beginning of a new journey."

It was strange that James’ parents were so late when all the other guests had arrived. Granted, they were mainly the household staff and their families, or close friends and family, but it made Saberlin wonder if there was anything wrong. He kept a calm demeanour, though. There were probably many reasonable excuses. He did allow a wolfish grin at the hat and outfit the jaguar had chosen. He looked like a life-size version of Puss in Boots. At least Cheria wasn’t marrying someone dull. Speaking of which, his sister should be here soon. Sabelin waited outside the ballroom for her.

***

Wallum blinked, startled for a second before he relaxed and gripped onto Luke’s hand, smiling shyly down at the friendly jaguar boy. He didn’t feel so nervous now. “Thanks” he mumbled softly, pulling Luke out of the way of Panthe, who seemed to be having trouble keeping her balance and holding the basket of flowers she’d been handed.

***

Fern gasped when Cheria panicked at the last minute. She waited for her to return and then smiled, handing Cheria her bouquet. “It’s no problem, here, don’t forget these either” the flowers’ sweet scent floated around them, ones Cheria had chosen; blue Forget-Me-Nots, lavender orchids, pink freesias and purple carnations.

“And I wish you all the best on your new journey, dear sister” Fern replied sincerely, patting Cheria’s arm (since she couldn’t hug her or the flowers would be crushed). She glanced at the silver watch on her wrist and back at Cheria. “I have to go on ahead now, it looks like it’s time for the bridesmaids to enter. If I go first, Panthe and Oka will follow me. We practised it that way so I’d better be there” she giggled. With a small wave, she went on ahead, entering the small room where the others were waiting. “Hi everyone, am I late?” Fern looked at her son and daughter proudly. They were so adorable in their toddler sized formal wear. She leaned down and kissed each on the cheek, smoothing a stray lock of hair or straightening a crease there. “Oka, Panthe, remember what we practised. It’s time for us to walk along the carpet now. After everyone else”

***

Oka jumped when his cousin scolded him. He’d been reaching out to touch the shiny rings without thinking; the bright golden shimmer too much to resist. His natural curiosity had got the best of him. He quickly pulled his hand back from Caleb’s like it had been stung and held it to him protectively, uttering a small whimper. “I wasn’t!” he told Caleb, sounding somewhat hurt for this accusation. His little ears flattened back and out came the bottom lip. Why did Caleb get to carry the pillow of shinies and not him?

But when Fern appeared, his attention was diverted and Oka cheered “Mama!” he giggled at the peck on the cheek and squirmed a little when she tidied his hair, messing his mop of spikes back up as soon as she’d turned to his sister.

***

Panthe beamed as Fern entered the room, holding up the basket “I got the flowers, Mama!” she announced with a sway of her tail. She nodded seriously when they were all reminded what to do, watching as people had already started to walk out and down the carpet. Iouya patted her ears on the way past and she giggled. “I ‘member it!”

***

Fern smiled, “Alright then, looks like it’s my turn. I’m going now” Hoping they’d be all right, she entered the ballroom and slowly walked down the carpet (which was really smooth for some reason), in time with the other bridesmaids and bridegrooms, to beautiful music. She compressed her desire to look back and see how the little ones were doing, as she knew they’d be trailing along behind.

About halfway along the carpet, the hushed coos, stifled laughter and ‘awww’ sounds of the guests told her that they had entered and she smiled happily, taking her place alongside the altar. She glanced at James and smiled brightly, he looked amazing! Now she turned around to face the hall full of guests and her cheeks tinted softly at the stares of so many. She quickly tried to forget her discomfort by watching the children, walking up the aisle. Wallum was holding hands with Luke, generating quite a lot of the fuss. And Caleb was carrying that pillow like it was made of glass…she tried not to grin. Over the practice sessions before the wedding, they had taken it all to heart. Fern was so pleased with them. She watched as her little princess dipped her hand with its pearly claws in the basket and sprinkled the petals daintily, her wrists flicking just so and fingers splayed out in a sweeping motion with each handful. Panthe’s steps made the pretty skirt sway around her as well and Fern couldn’t help but picture her as a dancer.

***

Once the little ones had walked to the front, it was time for the bride to enter. The music changed and Saberlin looked around for Cheria. He hoped she hadn’t run off. It was going to be difficult to give her away if she had run away.

Cheria picked up her dress skirts and met Saberlin outside the ballroom. "Sorry Saberlin. I almost forgot my garter. Are we ready?" She looped her arm with his and started to walk with him.

***

John and Aaliyah Lopez were there, but in the back. Something had held them up. but they made it to the wedding ok. James saw his parents and them a barely noticable nod.

***

Luke held Wallum's hand tighter when he was confronted with all of the unfamiliar faces. He whimpered and tried to hide behind Wallum. Caleb carefully stepped down the carpet, holding the pillow with the rings in front of him. He stopped at the alter next to his father and looked at him with wide eyes. James patted his head as if to say "good job son".

Her elder brother nodded, graciously extending his arm for her to grasp when she rustled into the little room. He had heard her coming from the shifting of her dress and the tip-tap of her shoes. “Sister! You look like a dream” he smiled, the pride he had for his sister making his feline eyes shine bright. A deep rumble indicated his amusement at the mention of the garter, “Oh no, we cannot leave that. Yes, I believe we are. So without further ado, shall we?” he started to walk out into the ballroom as the music changed, signalling the bride’s turn to walk the aisle.

Saberlin was careful to walk at a pace she could keep up with in her flowing gown, while admiring gasps and camera flashes burst around the ballroom. Petals drifted from the ceiling, showering down around them as the bride walked the carpet in delicate splendour, with a dapper looking cat at her elbow.

Aaliyah Lopez could be seen dabbing an embroidered handkerchief at her eyes, tears of joy streaking her face as she looked upon the ceremony with her husband, who was holding her hand and grinning with pride.

***

James was unable to stop smiling as he looked at everyone here, celebrating the day with him…until Cheria walked in and he felt his heart explode and freeze still all at once. She was…she looked like an angel, drifting towards him; a vision of grace and beauty from purest dream. His eyes saw nothing but her.

***

Once they reached the altar, Saberlin released Cheria’s hand and let her go to James, taking his place with the other attendants to one side. He smiled at Fern as he did so, his fangs showing in a pleased grin.

Fern smiled back as she stepped forwards to take Cheria’s bouquet, so her hands could be free for the celebrant to talk them through the vows and putting on rings. She stepped back with the flowers in one hand and took Panthe’s hand in the other, since the little girl had started to tip toe towards Cheria’s sparkly dress to get a closer look. “Good job Caleb, keep holding that cushion” she whispered to her little nephew, standing by with the shiny rings all ready to go.

***

The pastor was dressed also in period style and he smiled at them warmly, moving to stand before the couple with the gilded Bible spread on the podium before him. Once the were ready, he began to speak, taking them through the vows, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to see these two souls wed together in marriage…” the words were clear as they rang out tenderly across the ballroom, able to be heard by all.

((Uh, I can’t remember what the celebrant is supposed to say, so forgive me if any of it sounds corny. Lol. I’m trying to wing it))

((That's OK. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. I kinda have been busy with class (which I passed with a B +) and overall getting ready for University (Or, in America we call it college). I will absolutely try to make this post longer, but I am getting back into the swing of things. ^^))

]Cheria tried her best to pay attention to the pastor, but was finding it hard to do so. She kept looking at James and staring at him like he was the most amazing thing since sliced bread. She took his hand and squeezed it. She was rewarded with a squeeze back. Everything was going so slow! She discreetly shifted her weight from one foot to the other in wait for the vows.

Luke, with Iouya and his family, was getting bored. So, he decided he wanted to climb on Iouya's lap and play with the shiny buttons on his vest. But, in order to do so, he had to climb over Wallum, the youngest son. Luke made up his mind and climbed over Wallum and into Iouya's lap. Almost losing his balance made him cling on with his tiny yet sharp claws. But once he was in Iouya's lap, he played with the buttons and traced over the designs with a claw. "'Ouya? 'Ouya? 'Ouya?" Luke tugged on the vest, trying to get Iouya's attention.

Caleb stood as still as he could without moving. Unfortunately, a sneeze was coming. "A-a-a-a-aCHOOO!" He sneezed, holding the rings above his head as so they wouldn't get toddler sneeze all over it. He sniffed and looked around. Finally, he yawned, showing the tiny toddler fans that were growing in still. Unaware of the person recording the wedding ceremony, he shifted from one foot to the other and looked at his Aunt. Even for a toddler, he had a large amount of patience, but this? This was getting on his nerves. He carefully shifted the pillow/rings to one side and tugged on Fern's dress. "Aunt'e? When will dis be over?"

As she watched Cheria and James Fern couldn't help but smile. As she watched them she couldn't help but remember her own wedding. She smiled a little wider, happy that she could be here for Cheria's wedding. She was brought out of her little daydream as Caleb sneezed.

She looked down at Caleb as he tugged on her dress, giving him a kind smile. "It may still be a little bit, Caleb. I know it's probably boring for you, but this is something really important to your mom. So, just hang in there a little while longer okay? You're doing such a great job." She smiled again. Caleb was exceptionally patient for a toddler, and she knew it had to be such a boring event for all the children. She looked down at Oka and Panthe, squeezing her hand a little. She was really proud of all of them for being so patient.

Luckily, Iouya had a lot of patience as well. He had to after years of cultivating it while minding the family’s children.

He bounced Luke on his knee lightly and let him play with the buttons on his clothing, not caring too much if one or two went missing so long as the child was being kept occupied. It would be bad if he interrupted the ceremony.

The bat glanced down at the restless cub with a forbearing grin. “Luke, Luke, Luke! What is it?” he asked quietly, not wanting to interrupt James and Cheria’s vows. “This bit is almost over” he informed him, “then we can all go outside to play and eat some tasty food. See? Caleb just has to give them the shiny rings” he pointed, watching as the jaguar took one of the bands and slid it onto Cheria’s finger. Feeling a tug on his arm, he glanced across at his wife and chuckled. Umber was looking dewy eyed and adoring, hugging her husband while they recalled their simple wedding. They had theirs on the beach, but it was no less romantic. Looking over again, he saw that Kuloka was crying into a handkerchief. Wallum was pouting at being clambered over.

***

James was happy that he had made his own vows to say. He steadied the pillow when Caleb sneezed, making sure that the rings didn’t roll off and go missing. Taking one, he looked back at Cheria, and spoke clearly.

“Cheria, I love you and I know that this love is from God. Because of this, I want to be your husband so that we might serve Christ together. Through all of the uncertainties and trials of the present and future, I promise to be faithful to you and love you. I promise to guide and protect you as Christ does his church, as long as we both shall live. God's Word gives us the perfect example of this love in Christ's death for the Church. I shall try always, with God's help, to show you this same kind of love, for I know that in His sight we will both be one.” He slid the ring onto her finger with ease, over her sharp claw and onto her hand where it glittered and shone brightly.

***

The crowd watched as the vows were exchanged and the marriage was sealed with a kiss. Polite applause and cheering broke out as flowers rained down from the roof, lending a magical feeling.

After the reception and pictures being taken, the livelier part of the wedding commenced. Everyone filed out of the ballroom into the beautiful gardens talking and laughing, following a path to a marquee where tables and a square for dancing were set up. The tables were covered with pristine white cloths and decorated with purple flowers that matched the ones in the bride’s bouquet. Silverware was polished to sparkling, the cake of white with its purple flowers sat magnificently on its stand…lights twinkled and ribbons swayed. No expense had been spared in the addition of decorations and fine foods and drinks for the event.

Decoration

The first dance would occur, then dinner, cutting of cake, toasts, eating of cake…and then some fun with the tossing of the bouquet and removal of Cheria’s garter. After that, the dance floor was open for anyone who wanted to and then the wedding was over and honeymoons could be embarked upon. But first was the dancing, to make sure everyone woke up after sitting down, to express joyful feeling and to whet appetites before the course of meals.

***

As the strains of music from the band started to play, Saberlin held out his elegantly gloved hand to Cheria for the father-daughter dance. Since Jabe wasn’t here to do it, he was going to stand in for their father. “Would you care for a dance, dear sister?” he asked smilingly, as he gave a half bow.

Fern would be dancing with James. It was surprisingly mixed up but all harmless fun.

***

Disregarding anything else, Oka and Panthe were already on the square, dancing, twirling and giggling.

Panthe giggled loudly, twirling round in slow circles so the skirts of her dress fanned out. Her arms were spread for balance. She looked like a tiny ballerina, tip toeing slowly to the song.

Cheria said her vows and took the other ring. She repeated the vows as she slid the ring on to James's left ring finger. After the pastor pronounced them man and wife, she slipped her arms around his neck and kissed him. She smiled widely as she was led down the aisle and towards the reception area. Flowers landed in her hair, but they floated out as she moved. Once to the dance floor, she accepted Saberlin's offered hand as she curtsied.
"I would be honored too, dear brother." Once on the dance floor, she smiled at Saberlin, a hint of longing in her eyes.
"I just wish dad was here to see this, see his grandcubs." She murmured while waltzing with Saberlin. Soon, her eyelids began to grow heavy, and so she laid her head on his shoulder. Within a few tics, she was fast asleep, but still waltzing with Saberlin. She didn't even notice the music ending.

Caleb and Luke were with Iouya and Co., though they wanted to be with their father. Finally, both of them gave Wallum the slip and slowly made their way towards James. Caleb was the first one to reach James, holding up his hands in a silent plead to be lifted up. His tiny black and white tux contrasted nicely against the the golden brown of his fur. Soon, a ball of fur bumped against James's shoe, and lo and behold, it was Luke! He got up on his legs and was a bit dizzy for a moment. Once he regained his balance, he copied his brother in the hold me gesture. His black and white tux looked good as well against his lighter golden brown fur.

((OOC: I'm going to gloss things over to the bouquet toss and garter removal, so we can move on. Feel free to write in details about the dinner, cutting the cake, toasts etc...just write them as though they already happened. I’m posting for Kyubii because I don’t know if she’s going to reply right away and this really needs new posts))

Saberlin had been taught how to dance growing up, as had Cheria, so the siblings were able to fall into the steps easily. He smiled while they danced, enjoying the natural endorphins from the exercise and the music. Of course he’d have to think about it scientifically, though Saberlin had to admit, he did enjoy dancing – especially with Fern. Dancing alone…not so much.

“Father would be glad that you’re thinking of him” he replied, eyes briefly hinting of sadness both of them felt at the loss of their parents. No matter how old you got, they were still yours…your family, he thought; people you loved. Jabe would have enjoyed this celebration to the max.

“I’m sure if he could see them now, he’d be elated. Probably teaching them a few of his dance moves and giving them ‘advice’ about how to win the ladies, or secrets about the guests at the party…pickpocketing…regaling them with stories” he chuckled. “Teaching them to cause mischief. And mother would be there to keep him in check and fuss over everyone and to make sure everything goes smoothly” He led her through the waltz, in time with the music. It wasn’t until nearly the end of the dance that he realised she was sleeping.

Saberlin had just caught sight of his toddlers dancing in the little clearing and delightedly went to point it out to ‘Auntie Cheria’ when the dance had ended. Hearing titters and murmurs from others in the crowd, he looked back down at the lioness and gently shook her shoulder. She was lying on his shoulder, fast asleep.

“Cheria. Cheria…you fell asleep at your own wedding dance?” he laughed softly and petted her head. Scooping her up (careful of her dress), he carried her to a garden bench which had cushions on it, lying her down gently so as not to wake her. He bowed to the guests who were sitting nearby sipping punch and champagne.

“If the groom comes searching for his sleeping beauty, please tell him she is here. I believe I may have worn her out with that last waltz” he winked. Cheria would probably be mad at him when she woke up but he thought if she fell asleep mid-dance, she needed the rest.

***

Panthe stood to one side, her back pressed against the miniature hedge and the garden as she watched the dancers in the square. The pretty dresses, the music, clink of jewellery and laughter...it was fascinating. She sucked on a finger or two, leopard ears twitching this way and that in her dark hair, reacting to the music and voices.

She wanted to dance too! But there were so many people, seeming like giants to the tiny girl. It was scary trying to dance in amongst all that – she got bumped and jostled out in the first place.

Looking around, she spotted a small, vacant spot –a rest area circled by a miniature clipped hedge, with flowers in the garden bed just behind. Grabbing Oka’s hand, she tugged her brother towards it insistently. “Here Oka…come here ‘tay?” a chubby finger pointed to the patch of grass with curved benches and petals sprinkled as decoration. Her silk ribbon shoes tiptoed towards the space.

***
The boy twin frowned, his tail drooping uncertainly. Clutching Panthe’s arm, he let out a soft whine-growl, looking at their Papa and Auntie, then their Mama and Uncle in the crowd of dancers. Caleb and Luke were over with Kuloka and Wallum, while Iouya danced with his wife. “Ku-ka” Oka pointed, trying to pull Panthe back the other way. They should go to Kuloka. They knew that. But his sister was determined. He was being pulled to that circle whether he wanted to be or not.

Oka let go of her arm and stopped, looking back and forth from the nanny and their cousins then to his sis. It took only a pout from Panthe and her going a few metres ahead for the boy to let out a panicked mewl and run after her.

***

Stopping in the little alcove, Panthe started to wave her arms, jump and wiggle about. She giggled and began spinning slowly again, watching her silk skirts fan out.

“Dance!” The tot squeaked happily, giggling at her brother before grabbing his hands and swaying them around playfully

“Dance, Oka!”

***

Oka was standing there, watching her with confusion, chewing on his clawtips and furrowing his brow in an anxious expression. Fluffy gold and black ears were pinned halfway back, swiveling here and there, sometimes perking up, only to flick back down suddenly.

“Mama…” he mumbled, sounding worried. He looked around for Fern, sniffing the air. He could smell her scent but finding her in that moving sea of people would be scary. Maybe they should go find her - his hands were suddenly grabbed, comforting fingers tugged out of his mouth as Panthe started swinging them about.

“No!” Oka protested unhappily. He tried to wriggle out of Panthe's grip.

But then he started to giggle as his arms and body were swayed around. Oka began to join in, grudgingly at first but then completely. Okay, he’d dance some more…it was kind of fun now that they were dancing together. “D-dance!” the little cub’s cheeks flushed pink as he called out the word shyly, a bright smile appearing.

***
“Like dis!” Panthe let go of her twin’s hands, dancing beside him, twirling around in a circle, bobbing about, flapping her arms…whatever she could try.

***
Watching her, Oka clapped his hands, bobbed up and down or wiggled slightly here and there…clumsily trying to copy his sister. Their dancing may have looked funny to others but for them it was all good fun.

***
James was guiding Fern through an elegant twirl when he felt something bump against his foot. Looking down, he blinked and stared.

“Caleb…Luke” James could feel the heat of embarrassment as other dancers giggled and cooed around them.

“You know you’re supposed to be with the nannies. Couldn’t you at least wait until I finished my dance?”

He tried to scold them but couldn’t help laughing. They were both looking up at him with their arms outstretched, those big sparkly eyes, ears hopefully forwards and tails up. It was extremely irresistible.

Sighing, he turned to Fern and bowed apologetically. “Sorry, I’m afraid this dance has just been taken from us” James announced, kissing the back of her hand with rakish charm.

Crouching, he scooped up a cub in each arm, holding one either side. “Okay, you can dance with daddy too. Let’s show you how it’s done” He grinned, swaying them around the floor much to the amusement of the guests.

***
Fern gasped when she spotted their young intruders, smiling and stepping back graciously with a soft giggle, making sure her long dress couldn’t be tripped over.

“Luke, Caleb… did you get lonely with Kuloka and Wallum?” she greeted sympathetically, bending over with her hands on her knees to talk to them. It was hard for them to be away from their parents with so many people around and so much going on. They had done so well already to make their way through the ceremony without any tears or meltdowns.

She watched James with them and smiled. He really was getting better with them all the time. It was nice to see him taking an interest in his sons at last and helping Cheria raise them. It was good that he and Cheria were together as a family. Now Luke and Caleb could grow up with a father they could respect and like, Fern thought. They could learn things and not miss out. She knew Saberlin would have stepped in otherwise but it was better to have their real father around.

Dinner was about to begin. She looked around for Panthe and Oka, hearing some cooing and sounds of giggling and adoration. Fern looked over to see a small crowd of guests who were watching a pair of toddlers dancing together in a tiny circle of grass.

“Aww!” Taking the pen-camera device out of her bag, Fern walked over and politely excused her way through the crowd, filming them and taking pictures. She was glad she thought to bring it just in case there were moments like these. She then took some pictures of Cheria sleeping on the bench like Sleeping Beauty, of James dancing Caleb and Luke around, of Iouya and Umber dancing fancifully and many more things.

***

The dinner was after the first dances had finished. All of it was delicious, arranged to please the eyes and the senses. There were entrees followed by three courses plus the desserts. Then the cutting of the cake, where everyone watched the couple hold the knife together and slice into the frosted work of art, revealing the marbled chocolate pattern on the inside. Compliments over the taste of the cake (not too rich but moreish and moist), were heard from nearly everyone except those who don’t like chocolate or sweet things.

Then toasts and speeches…Jokes and well wishes were shared as the toasts were said, tongues loosened by the provision of some of the Harcourt family’s finest cellar goods.

Oka, Panthe, Caleb, Luke and the other children were seated at a separate table, along with their minders. Kuloka, Iouya and Silaeca helped them to eat what they wanted and made sure to place bibs and napkins over their nice clothes. They helped them stay on their chairs for as long as they could but there wasn’t really any way they could ensure they sat through the whole affair of entrees, courses and desserts so they also supervised while the children played in the garden or came back to nibble on things, adept at doing their job such that peace was maintained.

More dancing followed…this time the dance floor was open for any songs and anyone who wanted to dance. The little kids were all sleeping on blankets and pillows laid out for them in a small section of the marquee that had curtains around it.

***

The last item of the wedding party would be well remembered by many who saw it. The bouquet toss and garter removal! While Cheria was preparing to toss her bouquet, James was led off to the side.

Iouya grinned and held up a black cloth. “All right, now no peeking. It’s time for that game we decided to play” he chuckled almost evilly as he tied the black cloth over James’ eyes. “This is for the garter”

Silaeca leaned forwards and whispered in James’ ear. “I will be able to tell if you peek, ss-sss! And there will be a penalty” she teased, breathing on the back of his neck.

James gulped. He didn't want to find out what the penalty was.
Cheria whisked away Iouya to put him in a dress and take off her garter and give to him to put on. "Here, put this on. We're gonna give James a surprise that he will never forget." She whispered in his ear as she handed him a dress similar to hers and the garter. She slipped away to go watch the festivities. Once she was there, she sat right next to Saberlin. "Sorry about falling asleep earlier. The cubs didn't go down right away, and kept me up until the wee hours of the morning."

Luke and Caleb slept peacefully, their bellies full of food and cake, not to mention drinks. Their shirts were rumpled, but it really didn't matter anymore.

OOC: I'm Sorry I haven't been on for like, a couple of years. Been a bit busy with University, and it's almost ready to get really crazy again. smile

((That's okay. You had good reason not to. I'm glad for more posts. It was worth the wait because I still wish to continue so I don't mind waiting))

Iouya happily slipped into the dress, slipping his silky wings through the specially made slits cut into the back. He slid the garter up onto his leg, striking a sexy pose and poking his tongue out with a playful grin. "So, how do I look?" he crooned, in a mock sultry voice to Cheria, being silly. He then struck a pose, preening under the moonlight, swaying the skirts of the dress. "Do I look pretty?" Iouya teased in a girly voice, thoroughly enjoying the idea of their practical joke. His inky black skin was smooth and velvety, having shaved his legs earlier that day so that James wouldn't be suspicious at all (or think that Cheria had hairy legs - perish the thought!). The rascal of a bat liked to have authenticity in his pranks.

***

Saberlin was sitting with most of the other guests who had stayed, waiting to see the garter removal. He had his arms folder over his chest, ears swiveling down and back somewhat, not sure he liked this wedding tradition all that much. It was...a little improper, in his opinion. He turned to see Cheria sit beside him and reached over to pat her hand. "Perfectly understandable, little sister. But maybe it was for the best. It seems they're all fast asleep now. When I checked them before, they were curled up in a kitten pile" he explained. Panthe was snuggled up, clinging possessively to her brother's arm under one elbow while holding Caleb's hand in her other hand and Oka was forced to lie sleeping sideways due to his sister cuddling his arm, sucking on his thumb of his other hand while the end of his tail was being clinged on to by Luke and sucked on like a pacifier. Even with the festivities going on around them, they were completely out to the world - a pile of snuggly cuteness.

***

Once the garter was in place, Iouya moved through the crowd, and there was a flurry of laughter and gasps from the guests. He sauntered over to sit in the chair that was set out for what James thought would be Cheria and sat there, blowing kisses at the crowd and batting his eyelashes. He arranged the skirts of the dress just so and struck a feminine pose that had more people laughing, then he acted all shy and timid.

***

Fern hid a snort of laughter behind her hands, blushing profusely as she grabbed Saberlin's hand. "Ohh, I can't watch!" She whispered, so James wouldn't hear. Iouya was going to give the game away if he kept making everyone laugh. Right?

***

Saberlin got up and took James' hand, leading him out to the fake Cheria with his blindfold on. "Okay, she's sitting right in front of you. Er....have at it?" Saberlin encouraged his brother-in-law, somewhat awkwardly but trying to sound upbeat.

Cheria nodded. She tried to maintain a straight face, but for a bit, it didn't work. Every once in a while she sneaked a look over at the cubs, and tried to resist the urge to go to them.
***

James floundered up to who he thought was Cheria. Patting 'her' legs a bit awkwardly, he found the edge of the dress and slipped his hands up 'her' leg. "My, Cheria, I knew you legs were smooth, but not this smooth!" He laughed, the rich sound being genuine. It took him some time, but he found the garter and began to tug it down. "Jeez Cheria, I didn't think your legs were this big!"
***

Luke and Caleb stayed oblivous to what was happening. Luke sucked quite strongly on Oka's tail, getting hair in his mouth. Caleb gripped his cousin's hand, being careful not to squeeze it too tight, even in sleep. Both cubs snuggled closer to Oka and Panthe, thus making the snuggle pile more tighter than before.
