Even as I laugh, I'm stepping backwards, mind turning over potential treasures to lay at her hooves. Surely only the best would be adequate.
It is with the spirit of the foolishly brave that I leave and then eventually return with...
1. A bottle of fresh water: FAILURE
"Well, I figured you'd be thirsty, you know, being surrounded by sea water all day," I say, turning the empty bottle over in my hands. "But then I realized I'd need the energy for the rest of my trip." Drinking the first gift was probably not the best of starts but there would be more to come.
2. Black sand from the ocean floor: SUCCESS
"But hey, who needs water? Look at this neato sand! I had to hijack a submarine and everything! Whoosh whoosh, all the way down!"
3. A really nice Thai fish curry: FAILURE
"Yeah, my bad, I added too much sugar."
4. The head of a sea demon: SUCCESS
The head is still dripping wet, sticky bloody and the eyes are bulging out unpleasantly. "I actually didn't think you'd want some dead critters head at first but it attacked my ship and since I was going to kill it anyway, I thought there's no better way of showing my affection than with a bloody display of strength? Right? Actually, sorry, this is kind of gross."
5. A hammock: SUCCESS
I've set it up and I'm swinging back and forth, trying to look enticing. "How good is this! Come and relax with me. You won't regret it!"
6. Paopu Fruit: SUCCESS
"I've heard that if you share a Paopu Fruit with someone, your destinies will be entwined. I've already eaten my half."
7. A vial of the deadliest poison: FAILURE
"I traveled far, to the ends of the earth even, but I wouldn't give my life for this one. Those spiders were huge." I'm still covered in sticky web that won't come off.
8. An Immunity Idol: SUCCESS
"Russel Hantz nearly found it first but I'm a better climber! Use it well, to make sure you don't get voted off the island."
9. A flame that burns underwater: FAILURE
I'm still enjoying the delights of the hammock as a retell the sad tale of a week spent trying to put various flames into the water, only to conclude that, "it's impossible, fire and water don't belong together... unlike us."
10. Neptune's Trident: SUCCESS
"Dude just left it lying around," I give the trident a SWISH and a SWOOSH, feeling the power of the ocean course through my body. "He's probably going to notice eventually but I promise to protect you."
