The jungle that lay beyond the portal was uncomfortably damp, and Qarah pulled its drapes fussily around itself as it listened to the Elder. Catch a minipet and injure it just enough to subdue? It could do that. When its turn came, it accepted a little bag of the numbing powder with a bob of thanks, then prowled off into the jungle.
The first minipet it located was a fuzzy, sluglike thing with multiple tiny legs. That would do, it decided, and pulled back the drapes over its arms so that it could summon its bolas without getting the chain tangled up. It moved slowly and cautiously around behind the minipet, spun the bolas, and cast.
The minipet caught the sudden movement out of the corner of its eye, and jerked to one side; the metal balls hit it on the side instead of the head, and it squeaked in pain and began to run-slither away hastily.
Damage: 3 Minipet HP: 17

Qarah sighed with relief as it re-entered the cool, dry air of the warrens, and took a good, deep breath just for good measure. It did not like wetness much, or at least not involuntary wetness. Its clothing had not gotten too damp, at least.
It carried its prize back to its workstation and used leather thongs to bind the minipet's little legs together and to tie it down to the table. Then it took its bowl of spore mixture and a small knife and began to make shallow incisions to apply the mixture to, since its weapon had not produced open wounds.
The minipet began to squirm and make shrill little noises as the powder wore off. Qarah ignored the noises until, with a shriek, the minipet convulsed and snapped its pathetic little teeth at its hand. The mini struggled against its bindings with startling strength, snapping and snarling and trying viciously to get at its tormentor. Qarah simply stepped back, holding its bowl and tools to make sure the mini didn't knock them off the table, and waited. It took a surprisingly long time for the fit to pass, but the little thing eventually wore itself out and slumped back, its sides rising and falling with its rapid breaths.
Qarah waited a moment longer to be sure that its subject was finished, then moved back to the table and returned to its task. The minipet struggled feebly, but it had exhausted its ability to fight and could not put up any serious resistance. Its breathing began to sound obstructed, and Qarah paused to examine the minipet, observing that its eyes were reddening, its nose and mouth starting to accumulate mucus, and its small and futile struggles were now directed toward trying to get its paws to its face.
Qarah hummed, satisfied, and set about applying the rest of the mixture. It had succeeded in making its spore mix and in catching a subject and experimenting upon it, with the desired result of sickening the thing. It was succeeding, and it was proud of itself.
Quote: 2. Midway into applying your mixture, the minipet snaps away and begins to thrash at its restraints with unnatural strength given its state. There isn't fear in its eyes, however; it's distinctly angry at you. 3. The minipet's eyes and nose (or analogous parts) begin to redden, and it struggles to pick at them with a hoarse cry. Mucous begins to slowly drip out as it fights for breath.

It seemed that even within a cluster of bustling bodies, abuzz with tasks at hand, that Waits' penchant of naps had seemingly won out. Leaving the Famine clansman practically unconscious on the ground where he had initially arrived - it wouldn't have even been too surprising to learn if anyone had stumbled over him at all.
When he finally stirred, quite literally from the heap of cloth and rags, his lazy golden eyes couldn't help but notice that no one else seemed to be around. Well, that he had seen at first really. Even his sibling had vanished, though that wasn't too atypical. Missed were the introductions and explanation of why they had been gathered (oh, how delighted he would have even to hear too), that it was a little tempting to leave right then and there. But, Waits could still say he was still curious about the gathering and slowly rose from the ground to see if there was some small trail to find. (why did he feel slightly irked...)
It thankfully didn't take too long to locate the Elder and their assistant that had ushered the others ahead of him, still thankfully welcoming - in a way - the stray into the dwelling to rummage through the shelves of items. It was almost like a candy store to the alchemist, feasting his eyes upon all that lay around him. Waits' bony fingers danced about, trying to starve off the temptation of just taking everything he could manage. Many of the items were already in his possession, yes, but who was he to say no to a fresh collection of supplies that he didn't have to go out and gather for himself?
But no. There were instructions. And Waits would follow, only grabbing five various things that seemed practical in experimental spore creation. (Though, he might have taken just a little bit extra of each).
Quote: 1. A handful of moist algae 11. A discarded scrap of animal pelt with flecks of dried blood 10. A forgotten flask of venom (extracted from a snake/spider/etc.) 3. A vividly pigmented plant that fits in your palm 12. A handful of fresh seeds
