No when you have a carry weight. o wo

That... could be awkward, yes. ^^ I tend to use magic as a solution for weight problems.

They do have magic for healing and ailments, though expecting an ally to cast one to stop you from becoming petrified in the heat of battle when it's hard to go a few seconds without being attacked is harder than you might think. Not to mention you can't actually tell your allies what to do, so many times you're just standing there yelling 'Cure me. CURE ME!!' XD

I hate it when magic can be interrupted and has long casting times. = w= That's... very awkward in some games. And not balanced well at all.

Then I strongly, strongly suggest you don't play a pure mage. XD

Yeaaaaah... = w=

*Likes magic users, and is kind of offended when the system permits them, but makes them effectively useless*

Actually, High-tier sorcerer spells can potentially do a TON of damage, like the top-tier fire spell is a FREAKING METEOR SHOWER, and the A.I doesn't often use it because of the cast time, but dammit is it a game changer. XD

I play a mystic knight, which is a fusion of a warrior and a mage, and they have a lot of damage potential with their magic cannon skill. Not to mention having the attack and defense of a melee class. o wo

All-rounders are good.

Speaking of magic, though, I'm currently backing a freaking huge book of spells for a tabletop game... figured it would be a good reference for stories and such. ^^ The fact that they're funded to something like 1100% (plus change) isn't hurting, either, since it's allowed them to include tons of new material... good stuff.

Rednal's magic shop, Our spell books come in three sizes: small, not so small, and FREAKING HUGE! XD

Well, let me put it this way... they're seriously worried about running out of pages in the near future.

(Also, the physical edition has a high-quality leather version that some players want to add weights to so they can slam it down on the table in the middle of a game. XD)

I do like leather-bound books. o wo
Back on the subject of Dragon's Dogma, though, I think mages are balanced quite well, casting times can get quite long, but the damage output from some of the spells WITH longer casting time make it all pretty much even.
I've never actually played a pure mage, but still.

...Have your allies tank the enemy and distract it? Or cast from a safer location? Have equipment that shortens casting times?

Yes, yes and yes. Though the last one is a unique item, you need to get a fake made before you turn in the quest if you want to keep it. o wo

Shorter casting times always help. Always. ^^

Now, then.
