I didn't think it was possible to be bad at a GTA game.

No matter what, I'll always consider Goemon the TRUE mascot of Konami. Screw Snake.

I wish I could find the sales records. I know that Castlevania has had like, 29 releases, Goemon has somewhere around 25, and Contra has 11, but Contra has to have a huge number of sales. I mean, Super C was awesome!

True, Castlevania and Contra are classics...
But it just feels that Goemon is more fitting. It's one of Konami's oldest franchises.
The only sad thing is that most of his games are only in Japan. They feel translations would be tricky, due to the games awesome sense of Japanese humor.
What other game has time-traveling transvestite nuns, bunny-obssessed shoguns, and suicidal sportsman Harakiri Seppukumaru?

If you are going to go by age Twinbee, Frogger and Gradius have it trumped, if you are going by wackiness, Metal Gear is the most ridiculous thing ever. I think that DDR might be their biggest franchise though. Maybe Baby Lon should be the mascot.

I'll be honest, that isn't the adjective that comes to mind for me in terms of that...
You have a point with Twinbee or Gradius there. Look at Konami Krazy Racers! Pastel, pilot of Winbee is in that. And heck! Do good wnough you'll even unlock Ebisumaru AND Vic Viper!

I would definitely use "off the wall" for Metal Gear as a franchise since it entered 3D. Some Most of the plot makes my brain hurt.

Allegro I would definitely use "off the wall" for Metal Gear as a franchise since it entered 3D. Some Most of the plot makes my brain hurt. Before my friend told me a bit of what goes on in the series, I had no idea Snake was a clone or anything.
And that fact that he aged quickly into MGS4 was something I never expected.
I will admit to one funny thing. That Revolver Ocelot guy.
He actually recognizes if you use a Turbo-Fire controller.
And certain game data saved on your memory card.
What a way to break the 4th wall.

Who can we define as a mascot for the playstation?
Though they've gone multi-platform, we've had Spyro, Crash, Lara Croft...
Jak/Daxter, and Ratchet/Clank are two that haven't really gone outside the Sony. (Wait is there a R&C for the XBox?)
...There could be Sackboy.
